In 2002 I had the opportunity to stay at one of the colleges in Cambridge. During all my years of study I had seen students wandering to foreign countries and I had considered the idea myself - but I never went, until this much later experience. Seeing, hearing, and smelling the atmosphere there I realized I should have gone much earlier. A stay abroad so much broaden your horizons that you will consider opportunities you never might have considered otherwise. And so now I tell every student to make this move. Some who followed the advice now have positions in Oxford, at the LSE in London, or elsewhere. Some came back, but always much enriched and realizing there is more to the world that makes life worth living.
“La Católica” is one of the countries most prestigious universities. The university has four campuses spread over the city, the biggest of which is San Joaquin. Most of the professors at the PUC have international degrees and the participation in classes is very high. Students here are more challenged than back home. The student life on campus is quite diverse. There are plenty of extracurricular activities offered, such as sport (e.g. “Montanismo” - very popular and fun!) and salsa classes, theater, cinema. The “Comisión de Acogida”, a Chilean student organization, organizes events (e.g. concerts, trips) throughout the semester and every week there are “Miercoles Po” parties for those ones who love mingling with the Internationals. On campus it is very easy to meet both Chilean and International students. Chilean students are a bit shy in the beginning, but once the ice is broken, they are extremely helpful, friendly and fun loving.

The Erasmus experience is great, you can check that on Facebook, YouTube and by asking around. Everywhere you go, there will be students in the same situation as you, so you’ll get a lot of new friends. If you want to do sports or make a trip, there is always someone to go with you. The Finns are very punctual and helpful and they all speak very good English. Next to studying, the student life is just great there. The city organizes a lot of events and also the student unions of the three universities organize a lot of trips and parties.

Studying at the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) means that you receive an excellent education with a strong international flavour. The quality of our study programmes reflects the reputation of our university and our courses are truly international in terms of staff, students and content. Our location further adds to your world experience, because Amsterdam is a fascinating cosmopolitan city and one of Europe’s main business centres.
Why study abroad?
Having said that it might come as a surprise that I would encourage you to leave Amsterdam to study abroad for a while. This is a truly unique experience and can be an important part of your personal and academic development. Familiarising yourself with a different culture, language and university will broaden your horizons. Besides, getting to know new friends and places is great fun. Finally, future employers are looking for business and economics graduates with international experience who have made the most of their time as a student. International student mobility is very important to us, because it helps us in bringing the world into the classroom here in Amsterdam. On the other hand, we think it is equally important to place our students out into the world. That is why we have set up a global network of around 100 academic partners. I would like to invite you to make the most of the opportunities on offer and take a journey that could change your life.
According to those who have done it, it is fun to study abroad. It is a great opportunity to meet new people and make friends from all over the world. Furthermore, studying a period abroad is an exciting way to learn how to adapt to other lifestyles and cultures. This will prepare you for an international career in a changing and globalising world. Being able to look from other perspectives at your own way of doing things, your own culture and habits, is a skill that will add value to your personal and professional life.

Since only between 10% and 20 % of our FEB students actually go abroad during their studies, you can make sure you stand out by discovering the world of opportunities that we offer you.

The location is great, Turku lies in the south west of Finland surrounded by beautiful nature and next to the sea. It is close to Helsinki, Stockholm, Tallinn, Saint Petersburg and you can also go to Uppsala, Riga, Moscow and Lapland easily.

Selection of FEB partner universities
As FEB student, you have the opportunity to study all over the world at excellent universities. The partner universities are selected based on their quality and relevance for our students. We have partners in all academic disciplines of our faculty, from economics and econometrics to business and finance. The FEB has established an Erasmus exchange network with universities in the EU and a Bilateral exchange network with partner universities from outside the EU. Both networks offer many study abroad opportunities for our students. We also offer some special programmes like the Double Masters Degree Programme that takes place in Amsterdam, Barcelona, Oslo and Llubljana and the exchange within the Quantitative Economics Doctorate network (QED-programme).
