Europe has much to offer: diverse cultures, rich histories, and beautiful languages.

Given the relatively small size of its many nations, the geography of Europe makes it very easy to travel between different countries. Despite their physical proximity, the culture of Europe's different countries is noticeably distinct. Whatever your interests and academic goals, the CIE Study Abroad Office has a program for you. Czech Republic CEA Prague Host University: Anglo-American University Explore Prague’s hidden courtyards, winding streets, traditional pubs, and eye-catching architecture. Visit the John Lennon Wall located just steps from the CEA Prague Center. Choose from over 100 courses taught in English from several different schools, including business administration, international relations & diplomacy, law, journalism, and humanities and social sciences. The diversity of course offerings allows you the flexibility to choose courses that best meet your individual academic and personal needs while experiencing the best Prague has to offer. Students can opt for a full load of coursework, or can choose to complete a for-credit international internship.

France CEPA Strasbourg Host University: University of Strasbourg Ever lived in an 18th century French castle? No? Well, now is the time. Located near the German border, the city of Strasbourg is home to the European Parliament. Enroll in a wide-range of courses such as political science, European Union studies, economics, business, public management, European history and culture, and French language. Courses are taught in English (or French for students with sufficient language skills). Take part in service learning opportunities at local organizations during the semester.

Institut d’Etudes Politiques (Sciences Po) Host University: Students choose from a list of participating universities Sciences Po is one of the top ranked universities in world, counting among its alumni many French government officials. In addition to the main campus in Paris, Sciences Po has six regional campuses throughout France that offer students specialized study topics outside of Paris. Each center offers courses in French, English and at least one additional language from the region being studied. This immersive program requires a high level of independence and advanced French language level.

MICEFA Exchange Host University: Students choose from a list of participating universities Study abroad in Paris, a city draped in history, tradition, culture, and glamour. Mission Interuniversitaire de Coordination des Echanges Franco-Americains Exchange (MICEFA) is a consortium of many universities in and around Paris. The MICEFA exchange is open to undergraduate and graduate students and is ideal for independent students with a high level of French proficiency. Choose to take a mix of full-immersion courses and courses designed for non-native French speakers. Students with limited language ability or students who want to take classes with all exchange students can opt to take one of a few courses taught by MICEFA.


Germany CIEE Berlin Open Campus Host University: Students choose from a list of participating universities Tailor your abroad experience just the way you like it. This program offers maximum flexibility to engage and experience Berlin your own way. Take one, two, or three six-week blocks for the perfect amount of intensive study and cultural engagement. Select your academic track from five options then choose from a wide range of courses and subject areas: • Business & Culture • Global Architecture & Design • Global Institute • Global Internship • Global Sustainability & Environment

Host University: Universität Viadrina Exchange Explore Frankfurt-an-der-Oder’s quaint medieval Altstadt (old city), cosy apple wine taverns, village-like neighborhoods, boutiques, and beautiful riverside paths. Viadrina is organized into three schools - the Faculty of Law, the Faculty of Economics and Management Studies, and the Faculty of Cultural Studies. Although a certain amount of German language is preferred, students may take classes primarily in English as well as German. UWM students integrate completely into the academic program and take classes with other exchange students, degree-seeking German and Polish students and degree-seeking international students.

Hessen – Wisconsin Exchange Host University: Students choose from a list of participating universities Attend a university in Wisconsin’s sister state! The HessenWisconsin exchange is a broad consortium of participating universities in the University of Wisconsin System and various institutions of higher education in Hessen. Choose from a comprehensive spectrum of courses based on availability, language competence and academic preparation. Academic options range from full immersion with German students to courses taught in German for non-native speakers to Englishtaught programs. A large variety of subject areas are available.

Host University: Marburg University Marburg is a riverfront town that dates back to the 9th century. Choose from a comprehensive spectrum of courses based on availability, language competence and academic preparation. Marburg offers German language and German culture courses as well as content courses offered in German for those with more advanced language. Whether you have no prior German or are an advanced speaker, there is an array of courses from which to choose.

Host University: Justus Liebig University Located about 45 minutes north of Frankfurt, the city of Giessen boasts the highest student density in Germany. While studying at JLU, UWM students have several enrollment options. Students with a very high level of German proficiency can participate in a full immersion program, taking university classes with local students. However, Giessen also offers courses for non-native German speakers. These courses are taught in German but are designed for international students with varying levels of German proficiency. Students can also take courses in English or a mix of the various options.

Host University: Otto-Friedrich-Universität Narrow alleys, cozy corners, medieval and baroque building fronts: the city of Bamberg is picturesque and contains one of Europe’s largest intact old cities. Bamberg was named a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1993. Practice and improve your German in more than 20 different German language classes per semester. The language of instruction is mainly German, however, English instruction is available in a selection of course offerings, including information systems and applied computer sciences, business and economics, social sciences, and general linguistics. Take courses in German, English, or a combination of both!

Italy API in Rome Host University: John Cabot University (JCU) Centrally located in the quaint Trastevere neighborhood, JCU is a short walk away from the Tiber River and many of Rome’s most historic sites. Subject courses are taught in English and it is highly recommended that you also enroll in an Italian language course during the semester. Students at JCU who have a minimum GPA of 3.5 have the option of taking specifically designed “honors courses”. This option offers additional educational activities (seminars, papers, projects, etc.) and further mentoring by the professor.

API in Rome Host University: Lorenzo de’Medici (LdM) Many of Rome’s most famous sites such as the Trevi Fountain and the Spanish Steps are within walking distance of LdM. This program is designed for students interested in studying abroad in Rome who wish to select courses from a wide variety of disciplines while enrolling in an Italian language course. LdM internships offer students the possibility to learn different aspects of working in Italy, a country known for its artisan and small business culture. Get real-world experience and interact with local business owners to strengthen your resume.

Host University: Santa Reparata International School of Art What better place to find inspiration than the birthplace of the Renaissance? The city of Florence is your classroom as you explore architecture, fashion, cathedrals and more. Santa Reparata International School of Art (SRISA) is one of the top art and design schools in Italy. SRISA’s highly personalized instruction and experiential learning creates a thriving learning environment. When possible, students go on-site to work or visit exhibits or museums of relevance to the subject. In addition to fine arts courses, SRISA offers a selection of liberal arts courses such as art history, history, Italian studies, literature, gender studies, and political science.


Portugal Study in Portugal Network (SiPN) Host University: Students choose from a list of participating universities SiPN provides an academically rigorous but flexible study abroad program designed to meet the needs of students from a variety of majors. Choose from four member universities in the cosmopolitan hub of Lisbon. SiPN offers two types of classes: core curriculum (taught in English) and direct enroll classes at partner universities (taught in either English or Portuguese). The core curriculum is designed to support students with a variety of Portuguese language levels.

Spain Host University: Universidad de Alcala de Henares Instituto Franklin Just 20 miles from Madrid, Instituto Franklin offers a range of courses suited for students with different interests. Courses range from traditional language and culture to more specific ones such as humanities, cultural studies, political science, international relations, and business administration among others. Courses are designed for students of Spanish language competencies from intermediate to near-native fluency. In addition, the Spanish Studies Program Instituto Franklin offers special courses for heritage learners which focus on their linguistic, academic and cultural development. Advanced Spanish language students may take any of the courses the university has to offer, as long as they meet the required prerequisites.

Host University: Universidade de Santiago de Compostela

Host University: Universidade de Vigo Exchange

The city of Santiago de Compostela is the final stop on the renown Camino de Santiago pilgrimage trail. Students may take any of the courses the university has to offer, as long as they meet the required prerequisites. The subject areas include health science, business, Spanish, natural science, humanities, engineering, and Galician studies. This is a fully immersive experience suitable for the independent-minded student comfortable with figuring out many things autonomously, including finding your own apartment upon arrival (residence halls are only available for students spending the academic year at USC).

Vigo is the largest city in northwestern Spain with a population of about 300,000. Choose from a wide range of courses including many in the fields of sciences and engineering. You may take any of the courses the university has to offer, as long as you meet the required prerequisites. Available subject areas include engineering, business, Spanish, law and Galician studies. This is a fully immersive experience suitable for the independent-minded student comfortable with figuring out many things autonomously, including finding your own apartment upon arrival.


CEA Barcelona Host University: Students choose from a list of participating universities Spain’s second-largest city offers an ideal blend of historic and modern, combining Gothic charm with thriving immigrant cultures and Gaudí’s quirky architecture. Internship placements (fall semester only) invite you to immerse yourself into local culture while developing practical skills in fields such as business, design, marketing, tourism, urban planning, and more. Sweden Host University: Jonkoping University International Business School (JIBS) Situated on the shores of Lake Vättern, in beautiful southern Sweden, Jönköping consists of picturesque alleyways and canals opening the city up to the three lakes. JIBS is a leading school in the areas of entrepreneurship and business renewal, within a genuinely international environment. Enroll in fields such as business administration, economics, information science, statistics and political science. Take classes in English with local Swedish students for a fully immersive experience.

Host University: Malardalen University Mälardalen University is located in the densely populated and expansive region around Lake Mälaren, approximately 60 miles west of Stockholm. Choose from a variety of subjects ranging from engineering, the natural, social and behavioral sciences, and humanities, many of which are taught in English. All UWM students participating in this exchange program are required to take a Swedish language and culture course.

CEA Seville Host University: Students choose from a list of participating universities Enjoy a café con leche and hone your global competence skills as you chat with locals. Relax at a tapas bar after your study sessions or internship work hours. Learn the flamenco and explore the winding streets of the Barrio Santa Cruz when you study abroad in beautiful Seville. Courses at the CEA Seville Center are offered in Spanish and English and are intended to help you gain insight into how Spain fits into a larger European context. United Kingdom & ireland Herstmonceux Castle This is not your normal university experience -- the academic setting for this program is the Herstmonceux Castle, the oldest brick building of any note still standing in England. Enroll in a wide variety of course areas such as arts and humanities, social sciences, business, and some languages. An exciting feature incorporated in this program is the opportunity for a field study, a combination of classroom discussion and hands-on experience.

Ireland Colmcille Semester Program Host University: Ulster University Ireland has inspired writers, fascinated visitors, and beguiled the uninitiated with its captivating countryside, its wealth of music, art, and architecture, its lifestyle and history. This program is divided into modules of varying duration between Glencolmcille, a small coastal valley community in the Donegal Highlands in the Northwest corner of the Republic of Ireland, and at the Ulster University - Magee Campus in Derry, the second largest city in Northern Ireland. Coursework emphasizes Irish language and culture with an option to take a course in politics.

London Semester Program Host University: University of London The academic setting for the program is at the University of London, located at the heart of the Bloomsbury district, just minutes away from Piccadilly Circus and Buckingham Palace. Courses are taught by faculty from partner U.S. institutions, as well as instructors from London. Take classes with fellow Americans in subjects such as English literature, theater, international relations, art history, and global communications, among others. Unpaid volunteer/internship placements may be available.

Host University: University of Birmingham Indulge your inner child at Cadbury World, stroll through one of the city’s picturesque canals or linger in a local museum. Choices abound in England’s second largest city. The University of Birmingham is a comprehensive university and offers courses in a variety of areas. The environment is diverse and dynamic, and the business program is one of the best in the UK. While the university offers many areas of study, you may only take modules in your major or minor subject area.

Host University: University of Kent The medieval city of Canterbury is considered by some to be the most ancient and beautiful of English cathedral cities. Take classes in an array of areas including humanities, sciences and social sciences. In addition to attending lectures, you also take part in seminars (small groups that encourage informal discussion). Teaching may also include workshops or guided research. If you are taking a science or a technical subject, you will have an opportunity to spend time in a laboratory session or practical class.

Host University: University of Sheffield Founded in the 1820s, the University of Sheffield provides an experience geared towards the individual, with an emphasis on academic quality. The university offers a wide variety of courses in many different disciplines. The modules (courses) in which you are enrolled are a part the regular curriculum, so you’ll study alongside UK and international students all while becoming fully integrated into British university life.
