HELLO WHO ARE WE?

The UWA Queer Department was created to set up for LGBT*IAQ students. We have many roles including guild representation, a place to get information and as a social group.

BUT WHO ARE WE REALLY?

There are two UWA Queer officers, the students elected to run the department. Avory Allen started their stint in semester two 2013 and will continue until the completion of semester one 2014. They study chemistry and science communication. When asked for a statement they said “Go ask Laura.” Laura Clappinson started her officership at the end of 2013 and will continue until the end of 2014. She studies population health. When asked for a statement she said “Go ask Avory.”

UWA STUDENT GUILD The UWA Student Guild is the peak student body responsible for serving the interests of UWA students. The Guild represents the students of UWA to the University, government and the wider community. It provides support both academically and financially and organizes a variety of events on campus. facebook.com/UWAStudentGuild www.guild.uwa.edu.au hello@guild.uwa.edu.au

W O M E N ’ S D E PA R T M E N T UWA Women’s Department is part of the UWA Student Guild. The Department aim to fight sexism and misogyny on and off campus. Women are systematically disadvantaged in the broader community and at University. On average, it will take women three times longer than men to pay off their HECS DEBT. 67% of women have had unwanted sexual advances during their time at University while 76% of women feel unsafe on campus at night. Think this needs to be changed and challenged? Get involved with your Women’s collective. facebook.com/UWAGuildWomens womens@guild.uwa.edu.au

QUEER ROOM UWA Queer department has a room on the second floor of the Guild building where we hold events and hang out. We have a library of books and DVDs that you’re free to borrow from and we have a tonne of prophylactics (Condoms and dams) available for student’s use. We also have a fridge, kettle and microwave for students to use at lunchtime. To find us go up the stairs opposite the Ref in the courtyard. Go to the second floor and through the glass doors, down the hall to the end where there’s a room full of rainbow flags, couches and colours. If stairs aren’t your thing there’s also an elevator. The elevator entrance is opposite the guild’s optometrist; button P3 (Guild departments) will take you to our floor. Go through the door in the room to find the hall and it’s the first room on the left.
