WHAT IS AN INTERNSHIP?

An internship is practical work experience related to your field of study or career interest and may be done for academic credit, pay or as a volunteer.

WHY SHOULD I DO AN INTERNSHIP?

To explore and test career interests, to learn new skills, to apply classroom theory into practice, to gain related work experience, to work with prospective employers, to enhance your resume.

HOW DO I KNOW THE RIGHT INTERNSHIP FOR ME?

What are your career interests, skills and strengths? What types of industries & employers interest you? Talk with career counselors, advisers, professors, friends, & relatives.

WHERE DO I LEARN MORE ABOUT INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITIES?

The Career Center Go to careers.washington.edu Click on Students, “HuskyJobs� online job and internship database Attend workshops, come to walk in appointments, meet with a career counselor Academic Departments - Visit departments for information and internship listings on bulletin boards and in notebooks, learn how to earn credit, join their listserv, visit their websites, and/or meet with an adviser.

Carlson Leadership & Public Service Center- 120 MGH Community and public service positions, a listserv and internship program for course credit Center for Experiential Learning- 120 MGH Connect students to community-based learning, research & scholarships Ask relatives, friends, professors, advisers, students, & alumni, for ideas about careers, employers and/or industries; ask for names of people to contact.
