StudentsstudyinganIBDiplomacoursemustmakeagenuineattempttocompletecourserequirements.Theserequirementsinclude studentsapplyingthemselveswithdiligenceandsustainedefforttothesettasksandexperiencesprovidedinthecoursebytheschool, regardlessofwhetherornotthesetaskscontributedirectlytothefinalassessmentmark.Itisamatteroftheteacher’sprofessional judgementtodeterminewhetherastudenthasmadeagenuineattempttocompletetheserequirements

Someimportantthingstoknowandremember

● TheIBrulesandregulationscontainedintheDiplomaProgrammeAssessmentProcedures2024regardingassessmentcannot bealtered.Students,parentsandteachersworkwithintherulestoensureconsistencyandfairnesstoallstudents.

● Studentsabsentonthedayofanexternalexammustprovideamedicalcertificateontheirfirstdayback Situationswithina student’scontrolarenotacceptedasexcuses.

● Studentsmustcompleteatleast50%oftheassessmentforeachsubject(includinganexternallyassessedcomponent)tobe eligiblefortheIBDiploma.

TheInternationalBaccalaureateOrganisationaimstodevelopinquiring,knowledgeableandcaringyoungpeoplewhohelptocreatea betterandmorepeacefulworldthroughinterculturalunderstandingandrespect.

Tothisend,theIBworkswithschools,governmentsandinternationalorganisationstodevelopchallengingprogrammesof internationaleducationandrigorousassessment.

Theseprogrammesencouragestudentsacrosstheworldtobecomeactive,compassionateandlifelonglearnerswhounderstandthat otherpeople,withtheirdifferences,canalsoberight.

IBDiplomaProgrammerequirements

IBDiplomaProgrammecandidatesmustmeetthefollowingrequirements:

● candidatesfortheIBDiplomamustsatisfyassessmentrequirementsinallsubjects,usuallyeach studiedoveraperiodoftwo years

● subjectsmustbeselectedfromspecifiedgroupsasdescribedintheHandbookofDiplomaProgrammeAssessmentProcedures 2024fortheappropriateexaminationsession,threebeingofferedatHigherLevelandtheothersatStandardLevel

● inadditiontothesesubjects,candidatesfortheIBDiplomamust:

○ takeacoursein,andsubmittherequiredassessmentsin,TheoryofKnowledge(TOK)

○ completeanapprovedprogrammeofextra-curricularactivitiesknownasCreativity,ActivityandService(CAS)

○ completeandsubmitforassessmenta4,000wordExtendedEssay(EE)inasubjectavailable;workontheessaymust bedoneunderthedirectsupervisionofanappropriateteacherattheschool

● candidatesarerequiredtoactinaresponsibleandethicalmannerthroughouttheirparticipationintheIBDiploma Programmeandexaminations.Inparticular,candidatesmustavoidanyformofmalpractice

TheIBappointsexaminersandmoderatorstoassesscandidates’work Thisexternalassessmentiscomplementedbytheschool’s internalassessment.

SuccessfulIBDiplomacandidateswillreceiveanIBDiplomaandtheDiplomaresultslistingthetotalDiplomascore,thesubjectgrades, thepointsawardedforthecombinationofTheoryofKnowledgeandtheExtendedEssay,andthecompletionofaCASprogramme.

ABilingualDiplomawillbeawardedtoasuccessfulcandidatewho:

a. completestwolanguagesselectedfromgroup1withtheawardofagrade3orhigherinboth b completesoneofthesubjectsfromgroup3orgroup4inalanguagethatisnotthesameasthecandidate’snominatedgroup1 language.Thecandidatemustattainagrade3orhigherinboththegroup1languageandthesubjectfromgroup3or4.

AssessmentduringGrades11and12

Thekeypurposesofassessmentsaretoprovideinformationonstudentachievementandprogressineachcourseinrelationtothe syllabusstandardsandtoreportonthestandardofperformanceattainedattheendofthecourse.Therearetwotypesofassessment completedbyIBstudentsduringtheschoolIBDiplomaProgramme internalassessmentandschool-basedassessment

School-basedassessment

School-basedassessmentisusedbyteachersatUWCSEAEasttoindicatehowwellastudentisprogressinginaparticularsubject.These mayreplicateIBstyleassessments(forexampletestsandmockexaminations)ormaybeofanalternatenature Studentsneedtoknowthat:

● school-basedassessmentisnotoptional AllIBDiplomacandidatesmustundertakeandcompleteallrequirementsfor school-basedassessments

● studentsareexpectedtoattendallclassesinwhichtheyareenrolledunlessforappropriatemedicalreasonsorunlessthey havepriorpermission.StudentswhomissclassesregularlyseverelyaffecttheirchancesofgainingtheIBDiplomaandthismay resultintheirplaceattheschoolbeingwithdrawn

● appropriatemedicaldocumentationwillberequiredforstudentsmissingschool-basedassessmentsanddeadlines

● technicaldifficultiesorotherforeseeableissuessuchasholidaysorschoolcommitmentsarenotacceptableexcusesfor missingschool-basedassessmentdeadlines

● failingtomeetschool-basedassessmentrequirementsmayseverelyaffectstudents’chancesofgainingtheDiploma

Internalassessment

InternalAssessments(IAs)aresetaccordingtosubjectandIBguidelinesandcounttowardsthefinalsubjectgrade.Eachsubjecthasa differentweightingattachedtoitsIAasaproportionofthefinalmark StudentsandparentscanfindthisinformationintheIBDPsubject briefs.

● internalassessmentrequirementsarecompletedbystudentsbytheschoolduedates

● markingisstandardisedandmoderatedwithinthedepartmentinschool

Failuretosubmitinternalassessmentrequirements

● Studentsfailingtosubmitinternalassessmentrequirementswithnovalidreasonwillbemarkedasa“non-submission”tothe IB. “Non-submission”foranycourseworkcomponentwillmeanastudentcannotbegradedinthesubject,andwillnotbe awardedtheIBDiplomastudentswithvalidreasonsoutsideoftheircontrolmustseetheIBDPCoordinatorassoonaspossible

● allstudentsmustsubmitworkfortheirinternalassessmentbytheduedateandtime

● anapplicationforadditionalsupportoraccommodationsbasedonadversecircumstancescanbemade,ifdeemed appropriatebytheIBDPCoordinator

Incompleteassessment

Incompleteassessmentapplieswhenacandidateisnotabletocompleteallexampapers Incasesofincompleteassessmentina subject,thefinalawardcommitteemay,atitsdiscretion,awardagradeforthesubjectifboththefollowingcircumstancesare established:

a. anacceptablereasonisprovidedbytheschoolfortheincompleteassessmentbeingbeyondthecandidate’scontrol,suchas illnessorinjury,thedeathorfuneralofacloserelative,unavoidableattendanceatahospitalorlawcourt

b. thecandidatehassubmittedsufficientwork,includingatleast50%ofthetotalmarksavailableinthatsubjectandincludingan externallyassessedcomponent

Iftheaboveconditionsarefulfilled,marksformissingcomponent(s)maybecalculatedusingaprocedurebasedonthecandidate’s marksforcompletedcomponentsandonthedistributionofmarksofothercandidatesinthesamesubject

WhatifIamsickduringanassessmentorexamperiod?

Ifastudentissickonthedayofanassessment,theymust:

● ringtheIBDPCoordinatororExaminationsOfficer

● provideamedicalcertificatethatcoversthedayoftheassessmentandanyextratimetaken

● givethemedicalcertificatetotheHighSchoolOfficeandIBDPCoordinatoronthefirstdayback

● bepreparedtosittheassessmentonthefirstdayofreturn(studentswhodonotprovideanappropriatemedicalcertificatewill receiveanFgradeforthatcomponent)

DoestheIBtakeintoaccountsicknessormisadventureaffectinganassessment component?

Yes.Ifthisoccurs,theIBDPCoordinatorfillsintheadversecircumstancesform(D2)andattachesanyotherappropriatedocumentation andsubmitsittotheIBwithin10days Aerassessment,anychangestofinalmarksandgradesareallocatedduringthefinalgrade awardprocess.

WhatifIamsickduringtheMayexaminationsession?

IfyouaresickorsufferapotentialmisadventureduringthecourseoftheMayexaminationsession,youneedto:

● attendtheexaminationifyouareable

● provideallsupportingmedicalorotherappropriatedocumentationwithin24hoursoftheexamination(thisenablestheIBDP Coordinatortofillintheappropriateformsandsubmitthemonthestudent’sbehalfbecauseifastudentdoesnotmeetthe requirementforcompleting50%oftheassessment,theIBmustbeinformed)

Writteninternalassessments

Ifanillnessormisadventureoccursduringthepreparationofaninternalassessmentcomponent,appropriatemedicalorother documentationmustbepresentedifastudentisapplyingforanextension

However,pleasenote–extensionsarenotgrantedtostudentswhoaresickontheduedatesforwrittenassessments.Ifastudentissick duringthedraingandpreparationprocess,thenstudentsneedtodiscussthiswiththeirteacherandtheIBDPCoordinator

Oralinternalassessments

Oralassessmentsmustbecompletedwithinalimitedtimeframe Studentswhoareillonthedayofanoralassessmentmustbe preparedtocompletetheassessmentasclosetothedateasreasonableandpossible.Extensionstointernalassessmentduedatesare notgrantedforreasonswithinastudent’scontrol

FailuretocompleteDiplomaProgrammerequirements

AspertheDiplomaregulations,studentsmustcompletealltheDiplomaProgrammerequirementsinadditiontosuccessfully completingtherequirementsforeachsubject Theseare:

WhatifIcan’tcompletetheprogrammerequirements?

IfastudentbelievestheyareunabletocompletetheDiplomarequirementsforanyreason,theymustinformtheIBDiplomaCoordinator assoonaspossible.Failuretocompleteanyofthesecomponentscomesintwoforms:

2. FailuretosubmittheappropriateformscoveringforCAS

Appendix2–UWCSEAacademichonestypolicy

Rationale

AcademichonestyandpersonalintegritylieattheheartofUWCSEA’svalues Theyarefundamentalcomponentsofastudent’seducation andcharacterdevelopment,layingthefoundationsforindependentlearning,confidenceinone’sownabilities,respectandself-esteem. UWCSEAexpectsstudentstobehonestinalltheiracademicworkandbelievesthatstudents,teachersandparentshaveaspecial responsibilitytoensurethatacademichonestyisvaluedandupheld.

Thefollowingpolicyhasbeenputinplacetoensurethathighstandardsofacademichonestyandpersonalintegrityaremaintainedand thatpersonalachievementisprizedbyall.

TheHighSchooldefinesmalpracticetobetherepresentationofideasorworkofanotherpersonasthecandidate’sown Academic dishonestyisunacceptableinanymanifestationinUWCSEA.

Academicdishonestytakesmanyforms,includingbutnotconfinedto:

Agenuineerror–Ifateachersuspectsmalpracticeinapieceofwork,theywillspeaktothestudentatanopportuneand privatemomenttoascertainifmalpractice/plagiarismhastakenplace Ifagenuineerrorhasoccurred,theteacherwillclarify withthestudent,howtosourcecorrectly.Theteacherwillsendabriefnotetothementor,ccthestudent’sHeadofGrade,and theHOD;nofurtheractionisrequired
