IBDiplomaProgrammerequirements
IBDiplomaProgrammecandidatesmustmeetthefollowingrequirements:
● candidatesfortheIBDiplomamustsatisfyassessmentrequirementsinallsubjects,usuallyeach studiedoveraperiodoftwo years
● subjectsmustbeselectedfromspecifiedgroupsasdescribedintheHandbookofDiplomaProgrammeAssessmentProcedures 2024fortheappropriateexaminationsession,threebeingofferedatHigherLevelandtheothersatStandardLevel
● inadditiontothesesubjects,candidatesfortheIBDiplomamust:
○ takeacoursein,andsubmittherequiredassessmentsin,TheoryofKnowledge(TOK)
○ completeanapprovedprogrammeofextra-curricularactivitiesknownasCreativity,ActivityandService(CAS)

ABilingualDiplomawillbeawardedtoasuccessfulcandidatewho:

Thekeypurposesofassessmentsaretoprovideinformationonstudentachievementandprogressineachcourseinrelationtothe syllabusstandardsandtoreportonthestandardofperformanceattainedattheendofthecourse.Therearetwotypesofassessment completedbyIBstudentsduringtheschoolIBDiplomaProgramme internalassessmentandschool-basedassessment
School-basedassessment
School-basedassessmentisusedbyteachersatUWCSEAEasttoindicatehowwellastudentisprogressinginaparticularsubject.These mayreplicateIBstyleassessments(forexampletestsandmockexaminations)ormaybeofanalternatenature Studentsneedtoknowthat:
● school-basedassessmentisnotoptional AllIBDiplomacandidatesmustundertakeandcompleteallrequirementsfor school-basedassessments
● studentsareexpectedtoattendallclassesinwhichtheyareenrolledunlessforappropriatemedicalreasonsorunlessthey havepriorpermission.StudentswhomissclassesregularlyseverelyaffecttheirchancesofgainingtheIBDiplomaandthismay resultintheirplaceattheschoolbeingwithdrawn

InternalAssessments(IAs)aresetaccordingtosubjectandIBguidelinesandcounttowardsthefinalsubjectgrade.Eachsubjecthasa differentweightingattachedtoitsIAasaproportionofthefinalmark StudentsandparentscanfindthisinformationintheIBDPsubject briefs.

Failuretosubmitinternalassessmentrequirements
● Studentsfailingtosubmitinternalassessmentrequirementswithnovalidreasonwillbemarkedasa“non-submission”tothe IB. “Non-submission”foranycourseworkcomponentwillmeanastudentcannotbegradedinthesubject,andwillnotbe awardedtheIBDiplomastudentswithvalidreasonsoutsideoftheircontrolmustseetheIBDPCoordinatorassoonaspossible
● allstudentsmustsubmitworkfortheirinternalassessmentbytheduedateandtime
● anapplicationforadditionalsupportoraccommodationsbasedonadversecircumstancescanbemade,ifdeemed appropriatebytheIBDPCoordinator
Incompleteassessment
Incompleteassessmentapplieswhenacandidateisnotabletocompleteallexampapers Incasesofincompleteassessmentina subject,thefinalawardcommitteemay,atitsdiscretion,awardagradeforthesubjectifboththefollowingcircumstancesare established:
a. anacceptablereasonisprovidedbytheschoolfortheincompleteassessmentbeingbeyondthecandidate’scontrol,suchas illnessorinjury,thedeathorfuneralofacloserelative,unavoidableattendanceatahospitalorlawcourt
b. thecandidatehassubmittedsufficientwork,includingatleast50%ofthetotalmarksavailableinthatsubjectandincludingan externallyassessedcomponent

DoestheIBtakeintoaccountsicknessormisadventureaffectinganassessment component?
Yes.Ifthisoccurs,theIBDPCoordinatorfillsintheadversecircumstancesform(D2)andattachesanyotherappropriatedocumentation andsubmitsittotheIBwithin10days A erassessment,anychangestofinalmarksandgradesareallocatedduringthefinalgrade awardprocess.

IfyouaresickorsufferapotentialmisadventureduringthecourseoftheMayexaminationsession,youneedto:

Rationale
AcademichonestyandpersonalintegritylieattheheartofUWCSEA’svalues Theyarefundamentalcomponentsofastudent’seducation andcharacterdevelopment,layingthefoundationsforindependentlearning,confidenceinone’sownabilities,respectandself-esteem. UWCSEAexpectsstudentstobehonestinalltheiracademicworkandbelievesthatstudents,teachersandparentshaveaspecial responsibilitytoensurethatacademichonestyisvaluedandupheld.
