2010 ANNUAL REPORT
A message from the President and Chair of the Board Take action. Individually and collectively, our community truly embraced the call to action and to give, advocate and volunteer. Beginning with our three-word video, we asked you to take action and increase your gift by bringing your lunch to work or skipping a trip to the dry cleaner. We asked you to take action by volunteering for Top Management Volunteer Day and contributing to our School Tools for Cool Kids project. Finally, by carrying the lunch bag we gave at our celebration event, you continue to be an advocate and to help us spread the message to take action. In September, we launched the Fall Campaign following a very successful Cornerstone campaign where a number of companies ran early campaigns to build momentum. Our goal for campaign was $1.8 million. Thanks to the generosity of our community we SURPASSED our goal and raised $1,842,900.00. In October, United Way invested $25,000 in the Hall County community through grants made from the J. Cleon Nalley Educational Fund to four local agencies: Carol H. Burrell Chair of the Board, United Way of Hall County
* Boys and Girls Clubs of Hall County * The Guest House * Health Access Initiative * Good News Clinics
Our Young Leaders Society has flourished. Through this group, our next generation of leadership is learning how to take action and LIVE UNITED. Last fall, the Young Leaders Society planted a tree at the United Way office in recognition and appreciation of the philanthropy of members of United Way’s Tocqueville Society. The tree will serve as a constant reminder of how deep the roots of generosity are in this community. Our partner agencies each and every day provide critical health and human services to the residents of Hall County. United Way is very proud of the fact that despite the economic pressures of the past couple of years, we have NOT decreased our financial support of these agencies. Without doubt, there is no way the staff at United Way could ever accomplish so much without the many dedicated and committed volunteers who contribute their time and talent to the organization. Last year, approximately 200 individuals gave more than 1600 hours serving on the board or another committee, raising and distributing the financial resources or helping us get our message out. It was an incredible year for United Way of Hall County. We are humbled by the spirit of community that is alive and well in Hall County. It is an honor for us to present this 2010 Annual Report. Please know that through your support of United Way you are improving lives in Hall County every day.

VOLUNTEER LEADERSHIP
United Way of Hall County is dependent upon our volunteers to ensure its organizational integrity.
School Tools for Cool kids
When students have the tools they need, they enter school better prepared to learn. With that in mind, United Way of Hall County, local Publix Super Markets, and the Hall County Library System partnered to collect and distribute school supplies for students in our community by purchasing pre-packaged school tools at local Publix Super Markets or dropping off supplies at Hall County Library System locations. The School Tools for Cool Kids initiative provided 82 boxes of supplies to both Gainesville City and Hall County schools with an estimated value of $15,000.
TOCQUEVILLE society TREE DEDICATION
“When we plant trees, we are doing it for the people who will come after us.” In appreciation of the vision, time and resources received from United Way’s Tocqueville Society, members of the Young Leaders Society planted a tree in their honor on the grounds of the United Way of Hall County office.
TOP MANAGEMENT DAY
In line with this year’s campaign theme of “Take Action,” United Way of Hall County brought together 50 of the area’s top managers to participate in a volunteer project at Jones Early Language Development Center. The Jones Early Language Development Center is an extension of Lyman Hall Elementary School, serving 4 and 5 year olds who are among the most at-risk language students. Leaders from business, government, and education in Hall County worked on projects ranging from painting offices and hallways to repairing playground benches, trimming hedges and building a reading stage. The co-chairs of this inaugural event were Carol Burrell, Interim CEO, EVP and COO of Northeast Georgia Health System and Elizabeth Umberson, President of ZF Wind Power. Funding for the project was provided from the J. Cleon Nalley Educational Enhancement Fund at United Way.
J. CLEON NALLEY EDUCATIONAL ENHANCEMENT FUND
United Way of Hall County invested $25,000 in the Hall County community through the J. Cleon Nalley Educational Enhancement Fund. Through this fund, awards were made to educational enhancement initiatives that fulfill United Way’s mission of uniting people, organizations and resources to improve lives in Hall County. The recipients were Boys and Girls Clubs, The Guest House, Health Access Initiative, and Good News Clinics. The Guest House used their grant to equip and update its educational space. This improvement will allow for expansion of programs in the area of aging and Alzheimer’s education. Members of the Young Leaders Society provided additional improvement to the space by cleaning and painting the room.
These distinguished groups of United Way givers secure a place within Hall County as guardians for the future.
