Spring 2013 Edition

Wisconsin eTranscript Initiative More than 140 high schools in Wisconsin are now sending their transcripts to higher education institutions and other destinations through Parchment (previously called Docufide). These high schools represent 42% of Wisconsin high school students who now have access to ordering their transcripts quickly, easily, and any hour of any day. High schools in Wisconsin began sending eTranscripts in September 2009 and since that time more than 209,000 electronic transcripts have been requested and sent. There is no cost to a high school to set up this web-based solution to deliver, track and report on the sending of transcripts and related admissions documents. The solution eliminates the costly and time-consuming steps of fulfilling student requests for transcripts, allowing schools to replace manual and paper-based processes. It brings transcript services completely online. For more information on how to start sending transcripts electronically contact Heidi Dodge at hdodge@parchment.com or 480-719-1646 ext. 1021.

Learn About the Application You have been telling us that you’d like to learn more about how the application for admission works. Therefore, we will be hosting a webinar the third week in August—right before the school year kicks in. We will include some generalities about the application and a guided tour. You may submit questions ahead of time for us to answer during the webinar. Watch your email over the summer for an invitation to this event. All you need is Internet access and a phone. If you cannot attend, we expect to record the session and place it on our website for later viewing.

Each Wisconsin Covenant Scholar is eligible for 8 semesters of funding over a five year period as long as the student is enrolled at a Wisconsin (not-for-profit) college/university, submit the FAFSA annually, and maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP).

Part of the Wisconsin Covenant Pledge is the completion of 30 hours of service which must be completed by April 1 of their senior year. As this academic year comes to a close, encourage students to include service work during their summer breaks. Here are two websites with service ideas: http://www.dosomething.org/ and http://www.kidactivities.net/post/CommunityService-Ideas-for-Kids.aspx. Otherwise they can contact their community center, area library, or their pastor for ideas. Students should record and track their hours on a Record of Service form with signature from their service site supervisor http://wisconsincovenant.wi.gov/section.asp?linkid=1581&locid=124 or they can ask the site supervisor to write a letter indicating the completing and number of hours of service. If you have any questions, please contact UW HELP at 800-442-6459.

Executive Order 54 The University of Wisconsin System strives to provide a safe and secure learning environment for everyone involved in System activities, including children. On December 19, 2011, Governor Walker signed Executive Order 54. The order mandates all University of Wisconsin System Employees report the abuse and neglect if, in the course of employment, an employee observes or learns of such an incident. This includes information provided in the application for admission. The information must immediately be reported to local law enforcement or county social services agencies. All four year UW campuses as well as the UW Colleges and UW-Extension have developed training programs and reporting procedures for employees to follow. Please go to http://www.wisconsin.edu/gc-off/docs/Child-Abuse-andNeglect_Executive-Order-FAQ.pdf for more information and frequently asked questions.
