CARDIFF MET SPORT
INTRAMURAL SPORT (IMS)
Cardiff Met Sport, the Student Union and the Cardiff School of Sport have a great partnership that supports the student sport and recreation experience in the University.
Cardiff Met Intramural Sport is located within the Athletic Union, and aims to drive student participation in social sport through the provision of opportunities for all students, across all campuses.
This partnership has created sustained success in student and National League sport over the past 25 years. The Student Union provides organisational and administrative support to all the AU clubs, Cardiff Met Sport provides the facility management infrastructure and academic staff from the Cardiff School of Sport provide the high level coaching and support services that are essential for delivering sporting excellence. The AU enters over 60 competitive teams in the BUCS Championship each year and a number of clubs also enter teams in national league and cup programmes. In recent years, certain sports have been designated as focus sports and they receive additional finance and services to support their sustained success.
Here at Cardiff Met we are fortunate to have a close knit community, partly due to the size of our campuses, but also due to our extensive competitive and participation sports provision. Intramural sport provides participation sport, offering competition with or against other members of the Cardiff Met student body. Thanks to the development of the SWISS leagues we are also able to provide friendly competition against neighbouring Universities. This successfully promotes the family atmosphere on campus and in the city itself, allowing individuals to extend their friendship network and develop social skills to make friends for life. Coupled with facilitating your social profile, participation in regular physical activity is also linked to a multitude of health benefits, improving your image, physical and psychological wellbeing. Intramural sport is your ticket to all these benefits while learning something new or improving on your existing love for sport in a safe, secure and fulfilling environment. Social competition is offered for all abilities through a diverse selection of sports that offers something for everyone. It also offers a potential pathway into our Athletic Union performance squads for those who wish to take sport more seriously.

Intramural Sport is run by the students, for the students, as 10 sports coordinators work within the student body to organise, facilitate and promote participation for physical, psychological and social wellbeing. They will listen to your voice as the student body and work to provide you with the best student sporting experience possible. The coordinators act as a direct link between the student body and the Student Union, providing students with a voice to shape their own student experience while studying at Cardiff Met.
