Introducing the new Vice-Chancellor Professor Cara Aitchison took up post in October 2016 as President and ViceChancellor of Cardiff Metropolitan University where she is also Professor of Geography and Cultural Economy. With 30 years' experience in higher education Professor Aitchison has led significant growth and change management programmes developing universities' reputations, finance, internationalisation and student experience. She is committed to values-driven leadership that integrates civic, economic and international agendas to widen

participation in university education with the purpose of transforming lives, communities, economies and intercultural relations. Within her subject fields Professor Aitchison has a global reputation for her research; she was the Chair of the UK Research Excellence Framework (REF 2014) Sub-Panel for Sport and Exercise Science, Leisure and Tourism, a Member of the Main Panel for Social Sciences and is an Honorary Professor in the Department of Health at the University of Bath (2015-present).

Fundraising for Tenovus The conference team had festive fun in December raising money for Tenovus. The fundraising included mulled wine and mince pies, a raffle, games and jolly jumpers to help raise funds for this fantastic cause. Fundraising not only helps Tenovus to further essential research but also ensures continuation of invaluable support to patients and their loved ones within the community.

Archers Arena gets an Olympic Opening The New Year welcomed the completion of Archers Arena,

at Cyncoed campus. This new development proudly boasts an enourmous 1400m2 sports hall that can be utilised for a variety of sports including basketball and badminton. The Archers Arena was officially opened by some of the Cardiff Met Olympic team whose achievements can also be viewed on the Olympic wall of fame in the Arena foyer.

Whether you’re looking to host a sports competition or a residential summer training camp this new facility can be hired exclusively for your event.

What’s on in Cardiff boutiques. You may prefer to visit one of the many art or cultural attractions in Cardiff or even attend one of the spectacular sports or music events. Over June and July there’s international cricket as well as performances from Justin Bieber and Coldplay.
