Cardiff Met Conferences Keeping you in the Know Recent Events It’s all about team work and planning to make sure an event runs smoothly. Conference Services work with internal departments and schools to provide advice and support on hosting conferences as well as assisting in arranging the logistics. We’ve been involved in assisting a number of departmental conferences and events this year, here’s a snapshot of what went on; Prisoners’ Education Trust On 16th September Cardiff Met hosted the Prisoners Learning Alliance conference at Llandaff campus. Over 150 prison educators, academics, support staff and prison professionals from all over the UK attended to discuss how education can play a significant part in helping reduce reoffending. The conference was launched by Chair of Governors Barbara Wilding, included a keynote speech from a Prisoners’ Education Trust alumni and several awards were presented by Jo Stevens, shadow justice minister. Read further information about the awards.
“Many thanks for your role in facilitating the Prison Learning Alliance event so efficiently on Friday. The feedback from all the delegates on the day was extremely positive, about the event, the organisation and the venue. All the people I met were extremely complementary about both the conference and the venue. The School of Management was a perfect setting and showed off Cardiff Met's assets perfectly.” Jamie Grundy, Widening Access
Massage Training Institute Back in April we hosted the MTI Conference in association with the School of Health Sciences. The day saw 150 delegates enjoying 10 diverse and informative workshops and a range of stalls offering samples and gifts. The theme for the conference was ‘Self-care for Massage Practitioners’. The keynote speech was presented by Darien Pritchard who shared his extensive knowledge about posture, hands free massage and how to have a long and happy career by taking care of your body while working. Read further information about the event.
“Thanks so much for all your help and support on Saturday and over the last few weeks. It all felt very easy and I really appreciated how much you just got on with whatever needed to be done on the day - thank you so much!” Massage Training Institute

Department of Forensic Psychology The British Psychological Society Division of Forensic Psychology held a launch event on 11th July, hosted by the first Chair in Wales Dr Siriol David, with keynotes from Professor Mary McMurran and Dr Caroline Schofield. The event was attended by Welsh Government representatives, Police and Crime commissioner representatives and around 70 forensic psychologists from all over the UK. The event focussed on how to draw together the significant talent in the forensic psychology field in Wales in order to improve practice, research and policy in Wales. Cardiff Met is a leading light in applied forensic psychology, so it was fitting that we hosted the event. The afternoon started with a general meeting and presentations in the lecture theatre followed by an enjoyable drinks reception in the Atrium.
“It was a significant, symbolic launch that places Forensic Psychology at the heart of Health and Justice in Wales. The event was a great success.” Nic Bowes, Cardiff School of Health Sciences
If you work closely with external associations or societies or attend subject specific conferences nationally or internationally, why not suggest Cardiff Met as the venue for their next conference? We’ll assist in the proposal, planning and on the day logistics to ensure a successful event while bringing kudos to the university and your School /department. The Conference Team would like to say a huge thank you to all departments who have worked with us to organise so many successful events in 2016.

Sally’s on the run… for the Alzheimer’s Society Huge congratulations to Sally this year for running not one, not two, not three but four half marathons raising over £420 for Alzheimer’s Society. Sally from the conference team comments “I very much enjoyed running in my home town of Cardiff but the Severn Bridge was the most memorable. Next year I plan to run my first full marathon which is very scary but training has already started. If you see me out and about please give me a wave”.
