What is Widening Access? At Cardiff Metropolitan University we aim to ensure that adults of any background or ethnic group are given a fair and equal opportunity to study in a supported manner. We are committed to ensuring that everyone with the determination, skills and desire to access Higher Education should be able to do so. We work in Communities First areas to provide opportunities to learners in these areas. For whatever reason, in the past you may have felt that a higher education course would not be for you, but we have introduced a range of measures designed to make studying here as simple and as flexible as possible. We will consider a wide range of entry qualifications for full-time and part-time study. Very often experience counts for a lot and each person who wants to study with us is looked at on a case by case basis. An advisory service is available for those who are not sure which programme is best for them or who do not know if their current qualifications are acceptable for entry onto the programme of their choice.

How can you take part in learning? Cardiff Met Summer School The Cardiff Met Summer School is run each July and provides an opportunity for adults to try some new learning for free. We offer a wide range of free courses running for two weeks on campus. Courses are an introduction to subjects that learners could then consider taking at Cardiff Met.
Community Outreach At Cardiff Met we understand how important it is to work closely with local communities to help raise aspirations and encourage people who may think higher education is “not for them” to start thinking about the opportunities available to them. We work with organisations within Communities First areas to bring learning to the local community. We are committed to working with our partners to develop projects and activities which give people the chance to try new forms of learning, in their own communities. Contact the team for an up to date list of courses that are running at a venue near you.
We put on free courses in communities throughout the year for adults who are interested in trying something new or looking to develop their skills. Courses can be linked to subjects that you can then take up at a higher level at Cardiff Met.
