EDUCATION

Helping children and youth achieve their potential through education ➤ Children succeed in school/academic settings. ➤ Children succeed in a variety of environments and situations.

United Way invested more than $1,336,000 in local programs to improve educational outcomes for preschoolers and school-age children. For example… ➤ Through programs focused on increasing commitment to education, 389 students improved their school grades and attendance. ➤ More than 12,633 students participate in safe, structured afterschool programs for more than three hours a week.

United Way advances the common good by focusing on the basic things that we all need for a good life: a quality education that leads to a stable job, income that can support a family through retirement, and good health.

Helping families become financially stable and independent ➤ Individuals have the skills to obtain/maintain living-wage employment. ➤ Individuals function well in their day-to-day lives. ➤ Individuals have immediate and emergency needs met.

Improving people’s health ➤ Children are born healthy. ➤ Children develop to their maximum capacity. ➤ Individuals take action to prevent/remedy health and safety problems.

United Way provided about $1,282,000 to programs that help families and individuals become more financially stable and stay independent. For example… ➤ Through several training and support programs, 849 adults gained the skills needed to secure a job or improve their current earnings. ➤ More than 1,465 homeless individuals received shelter and other emergency services while building foundations for future self-sufficiency.

More than $646,000 was invested by United Way to improve the health of children and adults throughout Racine County. For example... ➤ Early childhood programs helped 1,373 parents and child care providers increase knowledge and skills to ensure children are in safe, nurturing environments. ➤ More than 4,593 students learned to build healthy habits and reduce risky behaviors.
