Entering his ninth season as head baseball coach at UW-Stevens Point, Pat Bloom has put together a very impressive coaching resume. He has compiled a 260-122 record in his time at Point and is the school’s all-time winningest coach along with leading the program to back-toback Division World Series appearances in 2006 and 2007 and five straight WIAC Tournament titles (2005-2009). In addition, the Pointers have made four appearances in the College World Series. Bloom again led his team to great success in 2011, as the team finished 34-10 and won their first outright WIAC regular season title since 2002 and the WIAC Tournament for the sixth time in seven years. Since taking the helm in 2004, Bloom has transformed the Pointers into a WIAC powerhouse and a respected program nationwide. The Pointers continue to improve under his watch, as the program continues to add to its collection of accolades. The accomplishments under Bloom include the best finish in school history, as the 2007 team finished third at the World Series with a 34-17 overall record, and the 2006 squad finished fifth in the country with a 35-18 record. With a 34-10 record last season, the Pointers put together their sixth 30-plus win season in the past seven years. The team’s previous World Series runs in 2006 and 2007 featured plenty of memorable moments as the Pointers won 13 games when facing elimination, including three straight in the 2007 regional to reach the World Series. The Pointers won 10 times with their season on the line in 2006 as Bloom was named the Midwest Region Coach of the Year in 2006 and 2007. Bloom was also named the Wisconsin Baseball Coaches Association College Coach of the Year in 2008. Bloom also captured the WIAC Coach of the Year honor in 2005, as the Pointers set the single-season wins record with a 38-11 record before losing the regional title game to eventual national champion UW-Whitewater, which suffered five of its seven losses to the Pointers. Along with capturing the WIAC Coach of the Year, Bloom was also named Wisconsin Baseball Coaches Association Collegiate Coach of the Year following the season.

In addition, Bloom has coached eight AllAmericans, sevens WIAC Player of the Year winners and three professional players including Major League starting pitcher, Jordan Zimmermann. Bloom, a 2001 graduate of UW-Stevens Point, is a former pitcher and assistant coach for the Pointers. He has a psychology degree from UW-Stevens Point and has received a master’s degree in sports science with emphases in sport behavior and performance and sport organization from Miami University (Ohio). A Tomah, Wis., native, Bloom played two seasons at Carthage College before completing his final two seasons at UW-Stevens Point. A relief pitcher, he was a member of two conference championship teams at Carthage and one WIAC title team at UW-Stevens Point. Bloom also played on Carthage’s 1997 Division III World Series team that defeated UW-Stevens Point in the second round. Following his playing career, Bloom spent one season as the Pointers’ pitching coach as UWStevens Point won the WIAC Tournament and advanced to the Division III Tournament. Prior to returning to UW-Stevens Point, Bloom served as a graduate assistant in the Miami athletic department, working closely with the CHAMPS/Life Skills program and teaching two classes designed for freshman student-athletes. Bloom was also in charge of community service and leadership programming for Miami athletics. Bloom is in charge of one of the nation’s winningest Division III programs over the past 14 years. The Pointers have posted a 472204-1 record, including four WIAC titles and 12 NCAA tournament appearances. In addition to his coaching duties, Bloom teaches in the university’s department of Physical Education and Athletic Training (PEAT).
