The range of scholarships offered by Western Sydney University reflects a strong commitment to academic excellence and opportunity for the students of the University. Western also provides support to students who have diverse interests and skills, and who make an active contribution to the broader community.

There is more to Western Sydney University than an education. We encourage our students to get involved and make a difference not only in their chosen professions and careers but also in the communities in which they live and beyond. Naturally, a portion of our scholarships acknowledge high-performing students. These scholarships are open to those undertaking any undergraduate degree, with many offering industry links. However, if you are a mature-age student, from a rural or disadvantaged background, or identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander, you may qualify for one of the wide range of scholarships we have on offer. Industry-related scholarships are not always based solely on academic achievement. We offer several scholarships which are sponsored by businesses, councils and individuals from Western Sydney. Western Sydney University works closely with these people, and with the community, to ensure these scholarships continue to meet the growing needs of our student population. Industry-sponsored scholarships provide our students with financial support while they complete their studies, and also give them the opportunity to establish professional relationships and networks before they have finished studying.

Western Sydney University undergraduate scholarships can be divided into broad categories based on how applicants are selected: on academic merit, equity grounds, community contribution, leadership abilities, or a combination of all four.

A - UNIVERSITY FUNDED SCHOLARSHIPS LEADERSHIP AND ACADEMIC SCHOLARSHIPS Western Sydney University has a number of scholarship opportunities based on a combination of academic achievement and leadership qualities. OPPORTUNITY SCHOLARSHIPS The University is committed to providing scholarship opportunities to support access for talented students from disadvantaged backgrounds. ABORIGINAL AND/OR TORRES STRAIT ISLANDER SCHOLARSHIPS Western Sydney University aims to encourage academically gifted Australian Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students who are either commencing or continuing their tertiary education. Please note: Many Group A University funded scholarships require the scholarship recipient to either reside in and/or have undertaken their Higher School Certificate or International Baccalaureate within Western Sydney, as defined by the University. B - DONOR-FUNDED SCHOLARSHIPS

The University awards donor-funded scholarships, providing support for students based on academic achievement and/or equity considerations. This funding is made possible through the generous support of our donors, who may be alumni, businesses, individuals, councils or other organisations dedicated to the tertiary education of Western Sydney University students.

C – COMMONWEALTH SCHOLARSHIPS COMMONWEALTH SCHOLARSHIPS (CS) FOR ABORIGINAL AND TORRES STRAIT ISLANDER STUDENTS The two main types of scholarship are: ≥≥ Indigenous Commonwealth Education Costs Scholarship to assist students with general education costs ≥≥ Indigenous Commonwealth Accommodation Scholarship to assist students, who have to relocate from regional and remote areas to attend higher education, with accommodation costs COMMONWEALTH INDIGENOUS ACCESS SCHOLARSHIP FOR ABORIGINAL AND TORRES STRAIT ISLANDER STUDENTS ENROLLED FOR THE FIRST TIME This once-in-a-lifetime scholarship opportunity is available to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students to assist them in accessing higher education. Applications for Commonwealth scholarships must be submitted to the Universities Admissions Centre (uac.edu.au/equity) GOVERNMENT EQUITY SCHOLARSHIPS Two types of Government Equity Scholarships may be available to higher education students to assist with costs of studying and living away from home. Vice-Chancellor’s Leadership Scholarship

ELIGIBILITY Current high school leavers only*. COURSES Any undergraduate degree. DESCRIPTION The Vice-Chancellor’s Leadership Scholarship aims to reward the success and accomplishments of high-achieving secondary school students who demonstrate excellence not only in their academic studies, but also in other aspects of their lives. Additionally, these scholarship holders are offered access to The Academy which helps to optimise their academic and leadership potential. BENEFITS $10,000 per year (or part-time equivalent). DURATION Up to five years full-time (or part-time equivalent) for an undergraduate degree including Honours, or for a five-year combined degree.

DESCRIPTION The Dean’s Scholarship aims to assist exceptional students who have achieved outstanding results in their Higher School Certificate (or equivalent), and/or for students who are currently enrolled in an appropriate undergraduate Advanced or Dean’s Scholars degree. BENEFITS $5,000 per year (or part-time equivalent). DURATION Up to four years full-time (or part-time equivalent) for an undergraduate degree which may include Honours.

CRITERIA Applicants must: ≥≥ be an Australian citizen or permanent resident of Australia; ≥≥ reside in or have undertaken their Higher School Certificate in Western Sydney as defined by the University (westernsydney.edu.au/postcodes); ≥≥ be able to demonstrate financial or other hardship (see Opportunity and Equity Definitions and Criteria section on page 34); ≥≥ demonstrate academic potential through a minimum ATAR of 80, or equivalent; and ≥≥ apply for any Western Sydney University undergraduate degree OR ≥≥ be currently enrolled in an undergraduate degree; and ≥≥ have maintained a minimum GPA of 5 (credit average). Sports Scholarship

ELIGIBILITY New and currently-enrolled students. COURSE(S) Any undergraduate or postgraduate degree. DESCRIPTION Through Connect, Western Sydney University offers Sports Scholarships to students either entering or continuing an undergraduate or postgraduate course. Western Sydney University is a member of the Australian Sports Commission’s Elite Athlete Friendly University (EAFU) Network. This elite athlete support program is aimed at providing support to athletes to balance their sporting and academic commitments while at university. Scholarship recipients will receive financial assistance and have access to modern fitness facilities, academic counselling, personal development seminars, academic support and liaison, networking links and other opportunities. BENEFITS Up to $2,000. DURATION One-off payment. CRITERIA Applicants must: ≥≥ be an Australian citizen or permanent resident of Australia; ≥≥ be an athlete competing at a state or national (school, age and/or open) championship level who is recognised by the relevant national sporting body as elite or in possession of development potential;

≥≥ be applying for any Western Sydney University undergraduate or postgraduate degree OR ≥≥ be currently enrolled in a full-time or part-time undergraduate or postgraduate degree at the University. ELIGIBILITY New and currently-enrolled students. COURSE(S) Any Bachelor Honours program. DESCRIPTION The Honours Scholarship provides opportunities for exceptional students who have demonstrated academic excellence in their studies, and are either undertaking or intending to commence their Bachelor Honours year at Western Sydney University. BENEFITS $5,000 for one year.

Students who are transferring to Western Sydney University from other universities to undertake a Bachelor Honours program are encouraged to apply. APPLICATION AND SELECTION PROCESS Apply online via westernsydney.edu.au/ scholarships Selection for this scholarship will not only be determined on the basis of highest GPA, but will also take into account the allocation of Honours Scholarships within each eligible Bachelor Honours program, to the maximum number of scholarships available.

International Exchange Scholarship

ELIGIBILITY Currently-enrolled students only. COURSE(S) Any full-time undergraduate degree. DESCRIPTION Western Sydney University has a range of overseas study opportunities with partner institutions in Asia, Europe, North America and Latin America. As a full-time student, you can complete a short course, semester or a year of your course or clinical placement overseas and have the results credited towards your degree. All Global Mobility Program participants will receive a scholarship or grant to assist them to meet the costs of their overseas study.

APPLICATION AND SELECTION PROCESS There is no formal application process for these scholarships. You will automatically be considered for a scholarship when you apply to go on an exchange program. Selection will be made on the basis of meeting the minimum GPA of 5 (credit average) and/or equity considerations. Scholarships will be awarded to the top ranking students each semester. Notification to successful applicants will be by student email. NOTES This scholarship may only be granted once to any student. It can be held in conjunction with another Group A scholarship.

BENEFITS Up to $2,500. DURATION One-off payment. Commonwealth scholarships assist academically gifted students who demonstrate disadvantage. If you are currently financially disadvantaged (for example, if you are currently receiving Youth Allowance or some other means-tested Commonwealth benefit) or if you expect to be financially disadvantaged at university, then visit uac.edu.au/equity Two types of Commonwealth (Equity) scholarships are available to higher education students to assist with costs of studying and living away from home. You donâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t need to apply for these scholarships as the Department of Human Services will pay them directly to eligible recipients.

Indigenous Commonwealth Scholarships

The Commonwealth Scholarships Program (CSP) assists Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students from low socio-economic backgrounds, particularly those from rural and regional areas, with costs associated with higher education. Students are to apply for these scholarships through the Universities Admission Centre (UAC) Equity Scholarships application form online via uac.edu.au/equity There are also a number of donor-funded scholarships specifically for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people (refer to pages 22-23). ELIGIBILITY All Indigenous students receiving a Centrelink payment or assistance under veterans’ schemes. COURSE(S) All undergraduate courses. ABOUT THE SCHOLARSHIPS There are two main scholarship types: ≥≥ Indigenous Commonwealth Education Costs Scholarship to assist students with general education costs

BENEFITS ≥≥ Indigenous Commonwealth Education Costs Scholarship valued at $2,599 in 2016 (indexed annually) ≥≥ Indigenous Commonwealth Accommodation Scholarship valued at $5,199 in 2016 (indexed annually). DURATION Four years. APPLICATION AND SELECTION PROCESS Application is required via the Universities Admissions Centre (uac.edu.au/equity) These scholarships are awarded on a competitive basis. Meeting the scholarship eligibility criteria does not guarantee that you will be awarded a scholarship, which are limited in number – there are currently more applicants than scholarships. As part of a competitive application process, applicants are ranked against the eligibility criteria and institutions award scholarships to students who best meet the criteria.

≥≥ Indigenous Commonwealth Accommodation Scholarship to assist with accommodation costs for students from regional and remote areas who have to relocate to attend higher education.

Western Sydney University recognises the value and importance of an international experience. We offer a variety of scholarships and grants to encourage student mobility and assist with the costs associated with these opportunities.

INTERNATIONAL EXCHANGE SCHOLARSHIPS

The University has a range of overseas study opportunities with partner institutions in Asia, Europe, North America and Latin America. As a full-time student, you can complete a short course, semester or a year of your course, or clinical placement overseas and have the results credited towards your degree. All Global Mobility Program participants will receive a scholarship or grant to assist them to meet the costs of their overseas study. These scholarships are valued from $1,000 â&#x20AC;&#x201C; $5,000, depending on the type of mobility program and destination, and will be allocated based on studentsâ&#x20AC;&#x2122; Grade Point Average as part of the Global Mobility nomination process.

You will be required to submit a confidential statement of support which must be completed by a responsible person such as a school principal, doctor, lawyer, accountant, social worker, counsellor, religious leader or community leader. Persons providing these statements must not be related to the applicant.

This category is for those applicants who can demonstrate that they have a disability, impairment or long-term medical condition.
