Business MAcc program leverages exceptional educational opportunities

and innovative energy to develop accounting leaders with the expertise

and integrity to rise to the occasion.

The Milgard MAcc program and its highly distinguished faculty go beyond

teaching fundamental accounting concepts by immersing students in a

specialized curriculum that is relevant to the needs of both regional

businesses and the global marketplace.

The program is designed to meet the CPA exam 5th year requirement in

Washington State. However, in meeting this requirement, students will

earn a mark of distinction that identifies them as possessing a deep

understanding of the accounting body of knowledge. Students who

complete the MAcc will find their achievement separates them from other

business professionals as they advance through their accounting career.

The curriculum is widely applicable to accounting careers in the public

accounting, corporate, government, and not-for-profit sectors. Whether

you aspire to become a partner at a public accounting firm or a senior

financial executive at a multi national company, the Master of Accounting

degree from the Milgard School will prepare you for the journey.

Established in 1994 as UW Tacoma’s Business Administration program, the Milgard School of Business was named in 2003 in recognition of a generous $15 million endowment from Gary E. Milgard, the Gary E. Milgard Family Foundation, and James A. Milgard. An additional gift from the Milgard family later raised the endowment to $20 million.

Leading the Profession

In a profession where the one constant is change, successful accountants

have continuously applied ethics and integrity to the financial challenges

of the day. The Milgard MAcc curriculum builds upon this tradition with

innovative courses in forensic and international accounting and the

emerging field of corporate social reporting. As more companies prepare

social reports to respond to stakeholders, this aspect of corporate

reporting is growing in importance. Accompanying this is the increased

demand for the independent audits of social reports. The Milgard MAcc

will equip its graduates to provide leadership in this rapidly growing area. 1
