Welcome to the Houston Livestock Show 2024, a landmark event in the world of Brahman cattle and a celebration close to our hearts at V8 Ranch. This year marks the centennial of the American Brahman Breeders Association (ABBA), an organization deeply interwoven with our family’s legacy. With Howard Parker, Sloan Williams, and Jim Williams honored in the ABBA Hall of Fame, and our continued leadership roles, our bond with ABBA is a testament to a shared vision and a thousand dreams realized in the service of this magnificent breed.
WELCOME HOUSTON
Our Herd Reference Guide, a labor of love we undertake annually, continues its legacy. Traditionally, this comprehensive chronicle, rich in the history of both our bovine and human family at V8 Ranch, has been a highlight at the Houston Livestock Show. However, this year we’re taking a different approach. Instead of distributing our Herd Reference Guide at Houston, we’ve decided to keep it as a special treat for those who visit our ranch in person.
In its place, we’re excited to introduce something new for the Houston Livestock Show 2024 - our inaugural Souvenir Guide.
This is the first time we’ve created such a guide, dedicated solely to our Houston experience. Packed with history, lore, and stories, this Souvenir Guide is our way of acknowledging that Houston, with its unique vibrancy and significance in the Brahman community, deserves its very own book. This special edition is crafted to provide a comprehensive and engaging insight into the V8 Houston experience, celebrating the event’s unique flavor and the shared spirit of Brahman enthusiasts.
If you’ve found yourself at V8 during the Houston show, you’ll notice we do things a little differently. Why? Because for us, it’s not just a show, it’s the greatest show! Our belief is that Brahman cattle and the incredible community around them deserve nothing less than a celebration that’s as extraordinary as they are. This means embracing the fanfare, indulging in the extra touches, and spoiling Brahman enthusiasts with exciting surprises that are a hallmark of V8 Ranch’s approach to Houston. We go all out at Houston because it’s our way of honoring the breed and its people.
Thank you for sharing this journey with us, for being a part of this vibrant celebration. Your enthusiasm for Brahman cattle fuels our desire to make each Houston experience exceptional and memorable. Why do we do it? Because we believe in Brahman cattle, and the people who raise them.
YOUR FRIENDS FROM THE V8 FAMILY,
If you’ve found yourself at the V8 stalls here at the show, we’re thrilled to have you with us! Whether you’re familiar with Brahman cattle or this is your first encounter, you’re in for a treat. These remarkable animals are not just a sight to behold but a testament to a rich history and exceptional breeding practices. Here’s what you need to know about Brahman cattle and why we at V8 Ranch are passionate about them.
As one of the largest breeders of Brahman cattle in the USA, V8 Ranch has been a proud participant at the Houston Livestock Show for over 50 years. Our dedication to quality, sustainable, and humane ranching practices has not only shaped our legacy but has also contributed significantly to the Brahman breed’s development and popularity across warm climates worldwide.
THE WORLD OF BRAHMAN
Brahman cattle are known for their distinctive features, such as the iconic hump, long, floppy ears, and their remarkable adaptability to warm climates. These unique characteristics are not just for show; they’re traits that enable Brahman cattle to thrive where others cannot. Their ability to regulate heat efficiently makes them a choice for breeders and ranchers in diverse environments, from the vast ranches of Texas to the plains of Australia.

DATA AND STATISTICS
Welcome to our preview for our Houston show string! While this data is based off of the 51 cattle entered, the actual lineup may slightly vary. Each entry represents out commitment to quality, and here at the show, you can study these cattle up close in our stalls. Information signs hang in front, detailing their specifics. Unless a co-owner is noted, investment opportunities may be available. Join us to explore the potential of our Brahman cattle firsthand.
PEDIGREE BASE
We believe that our best is just one part of the Brahman best. In our Houston showstring, where V8-bred cattle take center stage, we also eagerly celebrate the contributions from fellow breeders. The Candlers in Florida, who aided our pursuit of Black Brahmans, the Moreno family, whose Kyros diversified our polled cattle, and of course, our cousins at JDH, whose half circle L brand is plentiful in our pastures – these are just a few who exemplify this spirit of collaboration. These partnerships, visible in our showstring today, alongside many other contributors, have played a pivotal role in our herd's development over the past eight decades. You've shared your genetics to enhance ours, and for that, we are truly grateful.

Although the majority of our herd exhibits the traditional grey, recognized as Grey Brahmans by pedigree and under the ABBA's Standard of Excellence, we embrace the beautiful spectrum of colors of Brahman. This variation is a direct result of our mating strategy, where we prioritize the ideal pairing of bull and cow based on quality, not color. Our approach leads to a diverse array of hues - from light greys to deep blacks, and even rich reds. It's a testament to our belief that quality should always be the defining factor in breeding, inviting you to join us in valuing excellence over color.

HOUSTON CHAMPIONS
SLOAN SLOAN THE TRI-CHAMPION
+MR. V8 146/8
On March 6, 2020, history was made at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. For the first time since the ABBA’s inception in 1924, a bull won the prestigious International Grand Champion Bull title for a third consecutive time. That bull was +Mr. V8 146/8, later named “Sloan.”
Jim Williams reflected on this achievement, “We’ve always said Houston was the Super Bowl for our breed, as we work all year to have our cattle ready for that competition. To win a grand title there once makes you ecstatic. Then there’s tremendous pressure if you bring an individual back to try and win it the second time. A third opportunity is a rare occasion and a steep challenge. 146/8 met that challenge. He was a standout from a calf and he has only continued to impress and become a powerful bull.”
Following his historic wins, Sloan has completed all necessary semen collections, ensuring his genetic legacy will continue for generations. Now, aside from seasons serving as a natural service sire on the ranch, Sloan enjoys a well-deserved life of leisure. His days are spent in peaceful tranquility, embodying the pinnacle of V8 commitment to excellence and care.
Catherine Williams Neumayr shares a touching insight into Sloan’s global impact, “I was sent a video recently of a Sloan son winning in South America. The crowd was chanting ‘Sloan, Sloan, Sloan.’ I couldn’t help but get a lump in my throat thinking: Sloan represents a lifetime of dreams my parents and grandparents set out to achieve.”
Sloan’s legacy goes beyond his own accomplishments. His daughters have entered production, showcasing their excellence as mothers with beautiful udders, while a son, Mr. V8 891/8 “Pathfinder,” has calves on the ground rivaling his father’s quality. The Sloan era is here to stay.
Sloan’s story is not merely about his individual success; it’s a testament to our enduring commitment to quality, excellence, and the pursuit of perfection in the Brahman breed. As he enjoys his retirement, Sloan is a living legend at V8, a must-visit for anyone touring the ranch, and a symbol of the lasting impact one bull can have on a breed and beyond.

This year at the Houston, we’re not just introducing a bull; we’re sharing a moment that belongs to all of us. Magic Man, whose journey to the heart of the Brahman world captures the spirit of our community, is a testament to our shared passions. His story began quietly, with a cell phone video that brought the Brahman community together. Before he had a name, Magic Man was already uniting us with excitement and anticipation. The process of naming him became a communal effort, emphasizing that this bull is not just ours but belongs to everyone who has followed his journey.
As Magic Man steps into the limelight, his story is a reminder of the connections we share. The enthusiasm surrounding his debut has reached corners far and wide, from local enthusiasts to international visitors, all drawn together by their admiration for a bull that symbolizes the best of what we strive for.
In partnership with the Hughes family of Triple H Cattle Company, we’re proud to showcase Magic Man, a symbol of unity and shared achievement in the Brahman community. We invite you to join in this celebration, to share in the joy that Magic Man brings. He’s a reminder that what unites us in our love for Brahman cattle is far greater than anything that could divide us. This isn’t just our moment; it’s yours too.
As we look forward to Magic Man’s future, let’s remember: when we breed what we love, the magic doesn’t just follow—it flourishes, shared and cherished by us all.
