Campaign on Dangers of Vaginal Mesh Launched in UK The increase in the number of complaints against vaginal mesh devices in the United States has worried health officials in the United Kingdom that they have taken steps to address this concern. This is also in response to the growing clamor of British women who have also experienced adverse reactions due to the use of these contraptions.

Spearheading this movement are the Department of Health, the National Health Service (NHS) and the Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA), the British counterpart of the Food and Drug Agency (FDA) in the United States. The task before them is to ensure that safety measures are taken to protect women from serious injuries resulting from the use of these products.

Among the steps taken by these agencies are to create a registry for vaginal mesh devices and to launch an educational campaign directed towards women and medical practitioners. It is hoped that women will be guided accordingly in the management of their POP and SUI conditions while doctors may be expected to properly conduct these surgical procedures through the trainings provided. Sadly, nowhere in their program is a move to advice women against the dangers of using these devices.
