The Local The cultural mosaic of Jharkhand was dreamt about, shaped and polished by generations of communities, which have inhabited this land since time immemorial. The legendary Asurs and Santhals, to the Banjara, Bihor, Chero, Gond, Ho, Khond, Lohra, Mai Pahariya, Munda, c Oraon, Kol or Kawar-over thirty-two tribal groups constitute 28 % of the total population of the state.

The Nature Ranchi Ranchi, the capital of Jharkhand, is rightly called the City of Waterfalls. Blessed with the best of nature, Ranchi captivates your soul with authority. It is so rich in mineral resources that it is also called as the ‘Manchester of the East’. Hundru Falls, Dassam Falls are some of the famous ones.

Palamu Palamu as a rich past going by legends but authentic evidences are yet to be unearthed. The legends about the land are interesting and present a scenario of rich cultural background. The leading attractions in Palamu are Palamu Wildlife Sanctuary, Betla National Park, Palamu Fort and the River Koel.

Giridih Giridih, called the ‘Land of Hills’ is also known as ‘The Land of Jain Pilgrims’. The highest peak of Jharkhand lies here. Being carved out from Hazaribagh, Giridih shares its history. The land abounds in mineral resources. It boasts of extensive forests too. Parasnath Hills, Madhuban, Usri Falls are the must visit spots.


The Nature Netarhat If you long to be amidst the richness of nature, Netarhat, Queen of Chotanagpur, is the right place for you. The tranquillity in the air and scenic landscapes just blow your mind. The jungle covered hill station is the coolest place in the whole of Jharkhand. Netarhat Hills, Ghaghri Falls are really famous.

Hazaribagh Hazaribagh, as its name suggests, is a land of flora and fauna. The name Hazaribagh means a thousand gardens and the city lives up to its name. Situated at an altitude of 2019 feet above sea level, the city is a well known health resort. Hazaribagh wildlife sanctuary, national park including canary hills are attractions.

Deoghar Deoghar, the City of Temples, is a famous pilgrim spot for followers of Hinduism. This ancient town has many temples and some are located in scenic environment. Have a feel of the land regardless of the faith you believe in and you are sure to enjoy every moment of it.


The Cuisine Pittha Pittha is very famous dish in many Indian States. It’s prepared with wheat flour, suji, rice and it’s stuffed with vegetables and lentils. The Pittha’s of Jharkhand have very unique taste and eating it with coriander chutney is just so amazing.

Thekua Thekua is a very common snack of Bihar which is now very popular in Jharkhand. It’s a sweet snack which is prepared as Prasad during Chatth Puja. It’s prepared from wheat flour and sugar; believe me, Thekua is just another Heaven of sweet snacks.

Dhuska Dhuska is very popular snack of Jharkhand which is probably made by every household. It’s a fried snack which is mostly prepared as the breakfast snack. It’s prepared with lentil and rice batter which is later deep fried. Dhuska has a deadly combination with Ghugni that you just can’t miss.


The Cuisine Chilka Roti Chilka Roti is one of the finest dishes of Jharkhand. It’s prepared with Rice and besan and mostly on every festive season or special occasion. It’s just so appetizing to eat Chilka Roti with Chutney. It resembles to the regular Dosa’s but their taste is purely different and unique.

Handia Handia is a drink of Jharkhand which we can also call as ‘Liquor of Jharkhand’. It’s prepared with ranu tablets and with the combination of 20-25 herbs, which is later mixed with rice and left for fermenting. It can be called as Rice Beer.

Litti Chokha Litti Chokha is a very famous traditional dish from Bihar/Jharkhand majorly. Litti Chokha is ata dough rolled into balls and stuffed with sattu along with other spicy herbs and other masales. It is served along with baigan ka bharta.


The Festive Karma The festival of Karma, also known to be a religious festival, calls for huge celebration among the tribals of Jharkhand. On the day of this festival devotees keep fast of complete 24 hours. The cultural performances are observed keeping a branch of a Sal tree in the middle of an open ground.

Sarhul This is the main festival of the tribal population of Jharkhand. Sarhul can also be redefined as worship of nature in which local people worship Sita, the wife of Lord Rama as `Dhartimata`. They also worship the Sal tree, which is believed as the abode of Goddess Sarna who protects the village from all kinds of natural calamities and disasters.

Sohrai The Sohrai festival is a popular and much-awaited festival of the tribes of Jharkhand. It is associated with the cattle and is celebrated during the festival of Diwali,. During the festive celebrations the cattle are washed and worshipped. This is a time for great performances of cattle such as bullfights are organized to multiply the fun and excitement.


The Home Dhanbad!

Dhanbad is the famous mining township in the core of the richest coalfields in India. The township houses several industrial, socio-cultural and other institutions of repute in the presence of extensive commerce.

The route from govindpursabhari-Bundu-Tundi-giridih you can witness some mesmerising views of Chota Nagpur plateau and its dense forests. Great for bike rides in daytime. This is definitely one of the less taken or unexplored roads.

IIT ISM Dhanbad resides in the heart of the city and is of the most beautiful place out there. The samosas and chai at RamDhani. The Silent ring road for couples. Walk around the oval garden. And the ever awesome students always amaze you.

When you just want to spend a peaceful evening visit a park . There are quite a few of them . Koyla Nagar ( must try Mandal da ki chai) and ISM ground are the most clean and green areas . Birsa Munda park is fairly good place .

Farhan says: There are Coal Mines located in Jharia for which Dhanbad is famous for . Just take a drive towards Jharia if you want to see the biggest open mine. Attain peace at Maithan Dam which is about 40 kms from main town. Take the and on the way do try the Spicy Chicken at Khalsa Dhaba .
