MAPPING WATER ON CAMPUS CEPT University

Mapping

water water everywhere : miss - inc.

legend

Through the mapping, the different paths taken during the different seasons are mapped, including the spaces used during the Monsoon v/s Non- Monsoon. The inference that was taken is that some places within the campus go invisible and are ignored by the students due to rains.

MISS - Inc. Different spaces in the university are celebrated through out the year, except during the monsoons. During the rains, most of these spaces go invisible, as if they never existed. Mapping the different paths taken during the different seasons, including the spaces used during the Monsoon v/s Non- Monsoon to understand the pattern of the use within the campus, the conclusion that is drawn is that the Shrenikbhai Plaza is a place that is watered so that it can be used during the other seasons, whereas during the monsoons, it is a space that goes missing. The Shrenikbhai Plaza, has smaller pause points on its edge, where different activities keep going on at different times of the day. The idea is how these spaces can be made visible again, keeping in mind the amount of water that is used during the other seasons.

DESIGN INTERVENTION

The proposal for the improvement of the existing canal front The Canal front proposal within the settlement, near to the Parvati temple at the Parvati foothill, would increase the economic opportunities for the people. Presently, the lack of a public space within the settlement, this street would have the potential to become a public space for the communities for various activities like social gatherings, as a play area for children and a business area for the vendors. The existing Chowks formed by the inner alleys when connected to the main street are an important space for the communities as a semiprivate space for interactions. These spaces are upgraded in way that they support the existing use and maintain a sense of privacy for the residents living on the edge of the street. BASIC SERVICES : WATER STORAGE

METHOD USED ON SITE FOR COMMUNITY PARTICIPATION:

BASIC SERVICES : SOLID WASTE DISPOSAL

Feather board was used. Here the idea of removing food wouldn’t work. Step 1: The participants were given white feathers and were asked to place it on the space or the area which they liked the most. After placing, each of them were asked the reasons. Step 2: They were given red feathers and were asked to place on the areas which they hated the most and the reasons. Step 3: At the end they were given yellow feathers and were asked to place it on the areas that they wished to go or the spaces that they wished to use. During these processes, the participants were also asked to draw down the routes that they usually used.

The handicraft market proposed would be open in the evenings from 7 p.m. until night 10:00- 10:30 p.m. Materials Used : Bamboo, Stone , Brickbats, Rocks Bamboo: For the construction of the vending spaces. Stone: For the permeable pavement Brickbats: For keeping the seating contour created intact. Rocks: To create a visible barrier between the humans and the lake (riparian zone included).

DESIGNING IN CONTEXT Thaltej, Ahmedabad

Areas occupied : 7 a.m.

Households with private toilets & bath area private toilets public toilet common toilet sewage discharge

Toilets/ Bath areas

The idea here is to make the present gathering spaces, especially occupied by women more stronger by designing a community space through public bath and wash areas. As there are no dedicated wash and bath areas provided to the people, many self made bath and wash areas are made by the people which have their outlet directly into the lake that causes water pollution and also causes a lot of health problems like dengue to the people living around the lake There is only one public toilet provided in the area, but it is more male dominated, The design proposed is about creating a community space which includes public bath and wash areas and is more women oriented.

women men kids cattle Areas occupied : 6:30 p.m.

Types of waste

Community bath, toilets and wash area for women, as the public toilet that is provided is male dominated, and are not used by women. The plinth in the front provides privacy to the users and acts as a gathering space

Area that is used to fill water, enhaced to avoid water from stagnating. The activity of filling water in the mornings in a common tap brings out small chats

In this area, the houses face towards the existing toilets, so to provide privacy to the women as well as to give a view rather than bath areas to the houses facing a plant cover can be put up around the space.

The area of study from the Duomo to Zona Tortona via Porta Genova is characterized by Change. As a user traverses this path, not only do the characters of the neighborhoods change drastically from one to the next, these neighborhoods also transform over time, in the course of a decade, a week and even over the course of a single day.e The DIAGRAM has target to demonstrate transfer of theoretical research in the numerical resultant. The interaction of SPACE, TIME and AMOUNT OF CONTENT, as well as properties of focal points in relation with the context. Some of the spaces are more attractive for exposition of artistic content. The focal points represents the areas with hight concentration of art objects, being result of peoples perception of the space and disposition of comunication platforms.

INTERSECTION This junction affords the observer an opportunity to view the art while moving both parallel or perpendicular to the platform. It also allows for various viewing angles, and art that appears three dimensional at the corners. The observer also has the opportunity to view the art from a distance, while moving towards it.

2/06 min.

B OPEN SPACE While this space provides different points from which to view the art, the nature of space is such that the observer’s view is directed to the unplanned open space, rather than towards the art. A casual observer might tend to overlook this niche, or be confronted by it’s sudden appearance.

RECESS This space where the street widens out, allows the user either to pause and view the art, or otherwise, miss it entirely. The distance between the observer and the platform though, is restricted, only allowing for a close-up view of the art, and the numer of observation points is greatly limited.

C

5/47 min.

D

480.00 m. PIAZZA This planned, historic open space allows an observer to view the platform at various distances and angles. The piazza provides a foreground for the art and gives the artist an opportunity to imagine the points from which an observer would view their creation. The impact of the art is higher, as a user would tend to stay here longer.
