Fraud Alert: Beware of phony Jury Duty Summons phone calls Yolo County District Attorney Jeff Reisig is warning residents to be aware of fraudulent telephone calls from people posing as law enforcement or the Yolo County Superior Court claiming that you missed your jury duty summons. In the current scheme, the scammers’ claim that an arrest warrant has been issued by local law enforcement for missing a jury duty summons, and that you will be arrested unless you immediately pay a fine. The caller sounds very official and has even falsely represented himself as a Yolo County Sheriff’s Deputy. The Yolo County Sheriff’s Office stated that multiple citizens have been receiving phone calls from individuals who are representing themselves as Sheriff’s Office employees. In the past community members have sent money to these anonymous scammers and recovering these funds has proven very difficult.

The official sounding “Jury Summons Warrant” is designed to frighten recipients into responding quickly when they are upset and not thinking clearly. As with most scams, the con artists are either trying to scare the victim into “wiring” money or going out to purchase prepaid cards to transfer the money. These scammers are also trying to obtain personal information like a Social Security or Credit Card number. The Yolo County Superior Courts will always notify citizens by US mail of any violations they might have regarding their jury summons. The Courts do not issue bench warrants for failure to appear for a jury summons. The Yolo County Sheriff’s Office declared that they will never call and request personal or financial information, request payment for any warrants or missed jury duty summons. Sheriff’s Deputies will
never make phone calls demanding such information. According to District Attorney Reisig, “The complexity and frequency of these types of scams has been increasing dramatically over the last several months. Nobody is immune from being targeted by these persistent crooks. The best defense against becoming a victim of scams such as this is knowledge and vigilance.” As a reminder, never provide personal information to anyone over the phone or wire money to an unknown person. If you receive a suspicious phone call please contact the Yolo County District Attorney’s Fraud Hotline at 855-4-YOLO-DA or your local law enforcement agency in the case of an emergency. Reports of suspected fraud can also be made online at www.yoloda.org/ fraud.htm or emailed to Fraud@ yoloda.org.

Student Led Club Aims to Inspire By Raider Reporters
As the school year began at RCHS, students had the opportunity to create and join clubs to become more active on campus and contribute to the school culture. One of those clubs is new to the school and had their first meeting on August 31st and they have named their club Fight for Feminism. Club presidents and current sophomores Amina Pooni and Dipasha Avinash wanted to establish this club to raise awareness and start a dialogue about what feminism is and the negative stigma that they feel is sometimes attached to that label. “Most times when people
Students gather for introductions at the first Fight for Feminism club meeting. hear the word ‘feminist’ they often times think of a ma- hating female who believes in the superiority of women, when that’s not the case at all. Feminism is equality between all genders”, said Avinash.
The club will meet once a week during the school lunch periods and their first meeting was well attended by several dozen interested students. This gave the presidents hope that their club can have a positive im-
pact on campus. “We hope to change the way people view feminists and women in general. We hope to do our part and make small changes in our own community and inspire others to do the same,” said Pooni.

Smoke and Spare the Air Alerts Issued Smoke from regional wildfires is drifting into West Sacramento and the rest of the Sacramento Valley, prompting Spare the Air and smoke alerts from the Yolo-Solano Air District.
Wildfire Smoke Tips Reduce outdoor physical activity. Exercise increases the amount of air lungs intake by as much as 10 to 20 times, allowing pollution to travel deeper into the lungs. Reduce exposure to smoke. Children, the elderly, women who are pregnant, and people with respiratory or heart conditions should be particularly careful to avoid exposure. Lower other sources of indoor air pollution. Smoking cigarettes, using gas, propane and wood-burning stoves and furnaces, spraying aerosol cans and even burning candles or incense can increase particle levels in a home and should be avoided when wildfire smoke is present. Pay attention to local news. Watch the news for health warnings as well as what to do in an emergency situation. Paying attention to public health messages is a measure residents can take to avoid smoke impacts and stay informed. Stay indoors. Avoid outdoor activities regardless of health or fitness level. Smoke affects everyone. Turn on your air conditioner. Reduce exposure to outdoor smoke by closing all windows and doors and turning on the air conditioner. Consider visiting a place with air conditioning if no air conditioner is available and it is too warm to stay indoors. YSAQMD covers all of Yolo County and the portion of Solano County that includes Dixon, Rio Vista and Vacaville. If traveling in a car is necessary, reduce the amount of wildfire smoke inside the car by keeping windows and doors closed. Keep vents shut and if possible use the car’s ‘recirculate air’ option. Wildfire smoke is made up of a complex mixture of gases and fine particles when wood and other organic materials are burning that can penetrate deep into the lungs causing a range of health issues from coughing and trouble breathing to headaches and chest pain that can affect everyone, especially older adults, young children, women who are pregnant, and people with heart
or lung disease and asthma. The Yolo-Solano Air Quality Management District supports its mission to protect human health and property from the harmful effects of air pollution and provides public education and information to engage and empower all residents and communities to lower their emissions and exposure.
