Using connotation and denotation signs I have attract and addressed my audience. Denotational signs are signifiers which is the physical form of the object. Conotational signs are the signified which is the mental form of the object. For example, signifiers would be the physical form of the sign ‘peace’ and the signified would be the mental form of when the person hears the word ‘peace’.
Uses & Gratification Model – By Blumler and Katz 1970 My media product uses the theory of Blumler and Katz of 1970s. The audience us passive and active at the same time. The audience decides how to pick up the message that the media is sending out. The product is used for entertainment and pleasure. This theory has a limited effect because it focuses on the needs and wants of the audience. Different consumers will buy different products. This product is not for everyone it is focused on certain market target and the right audience will buy it. Blumler and Katz have created this theory because the audience show different interests and social needs.
I have used stereotypical and atypical conventions throughout my media product. I think this created an effect because it shows something familiar yet something new. i have got information about my magazine through hot-desking and focus group. I have focused my music magazine for males and females between the ages 16 and 24. Attracting audience that is interested in indie music.
Exhibition Exhibition is very important. To show that your magazine is sellable and people will read it you need to find research of how to improve your already made product. I have done this by hot-desking and focus group. Each one gave me the chance of finding out how to improve and why. It pushes my knowledge further on and it helps me create a better product for my market target.
Hot-desking Hot-desking was very helpful because my class mates who already do media know what to look for and they can find mistakes very easily. Little mistakes such as a word that is misspelled and a colour which is not suitable for that page or writing because it isn’t very attractive. The media students are already familiar in what they have to do to get a good product.
Focus Group The focus group helped me because it is the real audience that will read the magazine. They look deeply into details and check if it is something that they would buy. However, the focus group must be people from 16 to 24 because that is the age I have focused my target market on. They look at the colour whether it is fluent throughout the whole magazine. If the price is good enough for the contents that the magazine consist. If all of the pages link together because otherwise they might not find the magazine interesting because it has different styles on separate pages. The focus group doesn’t look at the product the way media students do because they don’t know how a magazine it’s made and they use this product for entertainment. This is why it is important to have different kind of people looking at you magazine. The people must like indie music and be from 16 to 24 a mixture between males and females.
Social media
Social buttons are very important because they show that the audience are activeon their social media websites. Between the ages of 16 to 24, teenagers always reblog and post things on the media. This is a chance for the audience to check the magazine online if they currently cant get a physical copy. The social buttons also show that they can check some sneak peaks for the next issue. It helps them keep up with the product. However, it also helps for the product to become more popular because the word can be spread. This is good because the magazine makes more money and can also improve because of the comments that the audience would post on the social media.
Use of colour I had done a special colour study of what colours I was interested in to have in my magazine. It helped me choose and create my magazine. Colour is very important because it creates certain moods such as from weak to strong or passive. I have used a mixture of colours between dark and vibrant. A red masthead with a black and white image creates a contrast and makes it more eye catching.
Language
The language must be suitable for the audience. Because the audience is a big target group from a 16 to a 24 year old there is a big difference. The language is mixt between formal and informal. The good thing about this is that the interview shows that stage from my double page spread. It shows both sides from a 16 year old to a 24 year old. The interview helps to show what kind of people are picked to be in this magazine.
