Tashi Elementary School Pratt Institute Spring 2015 Critic: James Garrison The Tashi Elementary School fills a small alcove in the middle of the Financial District as well as a niche for the community. It provides both housing and public education in a warm, welcoming, and thoughtfully designed environment.
The studio required the vertical organization of an education program for a Montessori elementary school on a highly constrained urban site with significant flooding potential. The interaction of the community, the susceptibility of the ground floor to flooding and the need to reinforce the identity and purpose of the school were guiding considerations. As this was the first applied problem of the studio sequence, the studio emphasized the development of architectural fundamentals. Site, space, sequence, structure, massing, and environmental response were considered individually as a holistic assembly.

Primary Co New York City is in constant need of new public schools. Due to growing residency in the Financial District, these public schools must to be established. Located at 47-49 Broadway, Tashi Elementary School is in a confined site of 50 feet by 200 feet; however, the total developable area is about three times the school program area. This allows the building to not only house an elementary school, but also include a thirty-story housing tower above. Together, this building would meet the needs of the growing population as well as the school children they bring.
Housing Tower
Within the site, Tashi Elementary School accommodates many public spaces, including the gymnasium with a full-size basketball court, auditorium, and cafeteria. Each of these is located on the lower half of the building as to allow public access. The upper half of the building houses the classrooms and specialty rooms. The classrooms are pushed towards the streetsides of the building to allow exposure to natural light. The ramps and stairs all appear to be cut out of the floor plates, creating flow from one space to the next as well Primary Concept Diagrams as a series of beautiful two-story spaces. Glissade House of Music Pratt Institute Spring 2016 Critic: Erich Shoenenberger Glissade’s House of Music proposal aims to create a connection with the existing hikingsound trail by investigating the relationship between inside and outside spaces through the experience of music. The Concert Hall is the nucleus of the building that opens to the landscape to promote the integration of the community and visitors. The Rehearsal Room can be open to the Outdoor Amphitheater as a second performance space. Since the principle material of the building is local wood, we are proposing planting new trees as part of our landscape strategy.

Wildhaus Sounds are stimulating; sounds motivate and animate us. In Toggenburg, Switzerland sound accompanies everyday life. A unique building, Glissade House of Music is to be created in the natural “sound space at the Schwendisee, in which the sounds of the Toggenburg and other nearby regions can develop and unfold. Here a place is to be created where sound in all its aspects can be experienced and researched. Glissade sees the House of Music as a unique opportunity to show the special character of this region, to heighten its attractiveness and atmosphere, and to give Toggenburg musicians a fixed home.
The Toggenburg Sound Trail is an interactive hiking experience. Stations along the trail feature sound sculptures for families to enjoy as they traverse the beautiful Alpine scenery. We propose for the concert hall to connect as an extension of the Sound Trail experience. The hall will also serve as a workshop and learning center for the cultivation of musical cultural heritage.

Huailai Winery Pratt Institute Fall 2016 Critic: Hina Jamelle Located in Huailai County, a new and rapidly expanding wine region in China, this vineyard provides a holistic experience to its users and guests. The winery incorporates and showcases all aspects of wine production, from the growing of grapes to the later stages of fermentation and bottling. The experience for the visitor is immersive from the moment they approach the site. In addition to wine tasting, visitors can tour the facilities and participate in workshops or dine and gather in spaces overlooking the vineyards. Approaching the site, the winery appears to grow out of the ground. The regular rows of vines reveal the building as it emerges and transforms out of the surrounding landscape.

Mid-Century Hollywood House Ggem Design Co. Summer 2015 Lead Desinger: Shannon Ggem I worked with the lead designer to provide interior design services for a mid-century Hollywood home. Layout, recommendations, and specifications were proposed in order to freshen-up the property with an eye to reinforcing a strong sense of the homeowners, authenticity, and quality. An important aspect of the project was integrating the incredible resources available in the client’s taste and collection.
After surveying the space, I built 2D drawings and 3D models of several proposed layouts. With the direction of Shannon Ggem, I specified suitable furnishings and order samples, as well as the design for a custom sectional using the existing hearth as a chaise base. After presenting the design and receiving approval from clients, the elements were priced, ordered, and installed.
