... a bad guy. almost daily in ��2�, it has been reported about this little villain – you know who. thereby, even the greatest action heroes or best detectives couldn’t stop that bastard, who turns our lives upside down and makes countless people suffer massively, on many levels. very few have been able to ally themselves with this evil tormentor and take advantage of it. we all, however, can learn from the fight with this villain. one of the lessons we can learn is when we have the opportunity to appreciate things that usually enhance our lives, we should do so more. among these valuable things are the cinema and movies, new ones as well as film classics. only now, we do notice how we miss both grievously. of course, netflix & co. entertain us with their programs. however, the perception, indeed, the enjoyment of a film is different when you watch it on a computer or smartphone. only a cinema or a blu-ray and, therefore, a good tv can unfold the full splendor of a film. emily blunt in a quiet place ii © paramount

without the cinema, the quality of the film would also change in terms of storytelling and visualization in the future. only cinema makes blockbuster productions like no time to die, wonder woman 1984, death on the nile, top gun 2, or a quiet place 2 possible. these movies were supposed to come into theaters this year. however, the labels had to postpone these and many other films to 2�21.

there, we were fascinated by the effect the film has on the big screen. despite everything, in the summer, disney decided for better or worse to present mulan directly on disney+, which is, of course, ok but not comparable to a cinema screening. so, if we want to continue enjoying this kind of movies that open the gates to other worlds for a few minutes and make us forget everyday life, we have to support the cinemas and film true a visit or by buying a hardcopy of our favorite movies.

even as long as our villain is on the loose, at least we can support the movie studios. we can do this by continuing what was once common practice before streaming services defined our viewing behavior: collecting videos.
whether on dvd or blu-ray, the passion for collecting has many benefits. on the one hand, a well-chosen video collection looks good in the living room. especially, in the form of limited fan editions. on the other hand, dvds and especially blu-rays offer lots of bonus material. so, they contain such cool stuff like a making of, interviews, trailers, or entertaining outtakes. finally, a film on blu-ray is always available. haven’t you ever found a movie you’ve been dying to see on your streaming service of choice? however, when you found time to watch it, it wasn’t available anymore. great! that can’t happen to you with a blu-ray! with a blu-ray, we not only make it possible for the filmmakers to continue to delight us with beautiful, exciting, thrilling, and inspiring films in the future. a blu-ray is also a perfect device for an evening with friends. moreover, it’s a very personal gift. tom cruise in top gun ii

opens the 2�th chapter the oldest franchise in film history. and it has seldom been more exciting to wait for a new part in the series. as if the secret service had been involved, even before the actual start of the corona pandemic, the premiere in march 2�2� was postponed to autumn.
now that the second wave of the pandemic once again caused that cinemas across europe had to close their doors, the premiere was postponed again. the new dates for the start of the 2�th james bond spectacle are april 2 �uk� and march �1 �germany�. but what can we expect in

howsoever, much isn’t known yet, except that this time daniel craig had a significant influence on the film. it included the choice of the multiple emmy-award-winning author phoebe waller-bridge. she wrote the script alongside neal purvis, robert wade, cary fukunaga, and scott z. burns.

anyway, daniel craig has shown over the years that he's not just the badass action guy. it was only trecently with steven soderbergh's logan luckyt and rian johnson's "knives out" that craig proved that he is a hilarious and extremely multi-faceted actor.

although, this member of the james bond villains appeared in some bond films only vaguely or not at all. telly savalas portrays him in on her majesty’s secret service. in “you only live twice” the villain is played by donald pleasence and in diamonds are forever by charles gray. in the daniel craig films, oscar winner christoph waltz gives the villain his face.

came in second as the crowd’s favorite. on the one hand, he appeared in the spy who loved me �1����. on the other hand, in moonraker �1���� even james bond had a hard time escaping the huge colossus with its steel teeth.

however, bond journeys to jamaica to nip in the bud this megalomaniac peril. joseph wiseman portrayed dr. no. he was a canadian theater actor. besides his appearance in james bond, there is a very romantic story about him. when after �� years of marriage, his wife and great love, the dancer pearl lang, died at the age of almost ��, he left the ‘stage of life’ only a few months later.

one reason for this choice could be that the british honor blackman wasn’t just a gorgeous woman. because, at a time when men dominated all parts of life, she represented a strong female personality who could easily rival strongmen like james bond. pussy galore aka honor blackman can be seen as a representative of the feminist movement in film. unfortunately, the beautiful british woman left us for good this spring at the proud age of 94. however, honor blackman will not only live on in our hearts as a bond girl.

of course, we are particularly fascinated by agatha christie’s books, in which she leaves us puzzling until the end about who the killer is. and every time we think we are on the right track, we are surprised on the last few pages and taught better. however, some of the film adaptations of agatha christie are also very impressive, even if some of them are almost forgotten meanwhile. therefore, we would like now to briefly introduce the best agatha christie film classics and of course not neglect the latest remake of one of her most famous works:

kenneth branagh already visualized his love for agatha christie with the opulent remake of murder on the orient express three years ago. now he has once again gathered a squad of international stars to bring the exciting mystery thriller, based on the 1937 novel of the same name by agatha christie, to the screen in a modern twist.

is returning as hercule poirot, along with tom bateman, and armie hammer. furthermore, great female actors take part in the crime story.
among them gal gadot �wonder woman�, letitia wright �black panther, avengers: endgame�, rose leslie �game of thrones, morgan�, emma mackey �sex education, the winter lake�, nikkita chadha �rocketman, dr. who�, sophie okonedo �hellboy, ace ventura�, and annette bening �captain marvel, american beauty, bugsy, regarding henry�.
MOREOVER, RIDLEY SCOTT,
who produces some of the most influential movies of film history like alien, blade runner, gladiator, and the martian to name just a few, will join the group of producers. kenneth announced that the remake of death on the nile will be very mysterious, sexy, and disturbing.
a bit comparable with james bond no time to die, death on the nile was also postponed several times, last due to the covid-19 restrictions. in this context, walt disney studios motion pictures and 20th century studios removed the film from the release calendar for an indefinite time. but there is hope that we can watch it in spring 2021. however, we can’t give a hint yet if the film matches the quality of the original.

appears as agatha christie’s hercule poirot. somehow trapped on a luxury nile cruise liner, and surrounded by eccentric celebrities, and mysterious people, he becomes the witness of a murder. with his old friend, colonel johnny race �david niven� he starts his investigation. although no one can leave the boat, the detective’s investigation is extremely difficult. even if each of the passengers has a motive, so everyone also has an alibi.
IT IS A FEAST
to watch peter ustinov. very charming, with a subtle sense of humor, he gives agatha christie’s master detective an authentic face. besides, death on the nile stars the top league of the international film of that time.

this mystery movie about a murder during a film party is rich in irony and british black humor as well as great actors. after death on the nile, angela landsbury stars in this agatha christie film based on her 53rd novel which was published on november 12, 1962. a big hollywood movie company arrives at a small english village to produce a film about mary, queen of scots and elisabeth i. the film crew invites the locals to a reception held in a manor house. here, everything only revolves around superstar marina rudd �elizabeth taylor�, which makes her biggest rival lola brewster �kim novak� angry. during the party, young local heather babcock �maureen bennett�, one of rudd’s biggest fans, accepts a cocktail that was made for her idol. seconds later the young woman is dead. time for jane marple and her nephew inspector dermot craddock �edward fox� to find the murder.
GERALDINE CHAPLIN
�one of charlie chaplin’s children�, tony curtis, rock hudson, charles grey (who also portrayed ernest stavo blofeld in james bond), richard pearson, and marella oppenheim performed in the mirror crack’d.
the film was directed by guy hamilton, who was also responsible for the james bond movies goldfinger, diamonds are forever, live and let die, the man with the golden gun. hamilton also directed evil under the sun, our next agatha christie film tip.
EVIL UNDER THE SUN (1982)
guy hamilton also directed this fabulous movie in which peter ustinov stars as hercule poirot once more. along with ustinov appear other stars from death on the nile like jane birkin and maggie smith. evil under the sun is visualized in the same pictural language as death on the nile. warm, relaxing, with lots of smart, ironic, and black humor. hercule poirot is in charge of finding the valuable but lost diamond of sir horace blatt �colin blakely� through an affaires de coeur, as the famous detective describes it.
THE SEARCH LEADS POIROT to a small island in the adriatic sea and. here, an exclusive vip hotel is lead by daphne castle �maggie smith� where several eccentric guests, mainly from the film and theater business, enjoy their holidays until alena marshall is murdered.
A WHILE AGO,
the gorgeous showgirl retired from business to marry the businessman kenneth marshall �denis quilley�. but, while the gardner’s �sylvia miles, james mason� try to book her for a new theater drama, rex brewster �roddy mcdowall� wants to publish an embarrassing book about marshall’s life.
HOWEVER,
both are strictly declined by alena, until her tragic death. besides, patrick redfern, a playboy who’s teaching latin in normal life, flirts with alena intensively. of course, his wife christine �jane birkin� is extremely displeased by the affair of her husband. thereby, again, everybody has a motive to kill a woman, but obviously, nobody did it. everyone has an alibi. besides death on the nile, evil under the sun is an absolute highlight of all agatha christie film adaptions. the density, thrill, and humor as well as the grandiose play of ustinov as well as all other actors are a feast for the senses. the film is exciting and relaxing at the same time, an evergreen which you can watch again and again and again.
MURDER ON THE ORIENT EXPRESS
IN 1974,
the series of agatha christie film adaptions started with murder on the orient express, which wasn’t only very successful because of the thrilling story, but because of the exclusive cast. because the who’s who of the then international movie scene appears in this film. besides, is the only agatha christie motion picture in which a man is killed.
accidentally, hercule poirot �albert finney� takes the orient express full of illustrious passengers. among them are the diva mrs. hubbard �lauren bacall�, countess helena andrenyi �jacqueline bisset�, her husband and diplomat count rudolf andrenyi �michael york�, the swedish missionary greta ohlsson �ingrid bergman�, the princess natalia dragomiroff �wendy hiller� and her maid hildegarde schmidt �rachel roberts�. besides, the british colonel arbuthnot �sean connery�, and his lover mary debenham �vanessa redgrave� are on board.
POIROT
was spontaneously invited by bianchi �martin balsam�, the boss of the train line. but poirot must share his room with hector mcqueen �anthony perkins�. he is the secretary of mysterious mr. ratchett �richard widmark�, who takes the ride right next door. ratchett asks poirot to help him. the rich man receives death threats for a while. thus, he is afraid for his life. however, hercule poirot declines his offer. and ratchett is dead the next morning. poirot can’t believe it, since he slept door to door to the victim. at the request of his friend bianchi, he starts the questioning. here, also ratchett’s butler beddoes (john gielgud), the strange detective cyrus b. hardman (colin coulouris) and, the italian dealer antonio foscarelli take part. the latter is played by denis quilley who we already know from evil under the sun. of course, all of them affirm to be innocent, as conductor pierre paul michel. the sensitive railway official is played by jean-pierre cassel, the father of the great french actor vincent cassel. the scenes of questioning are a rollercoaster ride, from up to down. in one moment, you may think: yes, i know the killer. but on the other, you will think: i don’t know anything.
THE FILM IS A MILESTONE
in film history. also, because of the breathtaking cast, characters of the old school. especially, lauren bacall impresses with her unique play and appearance.
IN 2017,
like death on the nile now, kenneth branagh adapted the story to modern times. his version of murder on the orient express was released in 2017. the film is also starring penélope cruz, willem dafoe, judi dench, johnny depp, derek jacobi, leslie odom jr., michelle pfeiffer, and daisy ridley.
what a cast, of course. but the film could not convince the audience. it did not reach the quality of the original. branagh is very familiar with shakespeare, but not with agatha christie. certainly, both authors played with thrill and humor.
nevertheless, their stories and characters are entirely different. hence, branagh’s film adaption is not worth seeing. because it was not funny or thrilling at all. too much drama and cgi; too less

therefore, we hope, that ridley scott and disney helped him, to do it better with death on the nile. we will check it soon.

THIS IS HEAVY if you haven’t seen back to the future, you have an education gap. the film belongs with the kind of movies that have written real film history. marty mcfly, aka michael j. fox, left his mark on the style of an entire era. because in the release year 1985, but also for a long time afterwards, nike shoes with velcro fastener became a trend, and many proudly showed up with the casio calculator watch, which they had seen in the film.
BACK TO THE FUTURE the story is as funny as simple. it's the summer of 1985 in the small town of hill valley. the rather eccentric student and guitarist marty mcfly is freshly in love. but he accidentally travels back to 1955 in the time machine invented earlier by his much older friend dr. emmett brown.
only one person can help him out here, dr. brown himself, who is already a whimsical tinkerer at this time, but has no idea what kind of machine he will one day invent. while searching for his friend, marty meets his parents. both are incredibly young teenagers, the same age as marty. and they have never met before.
when marty’s young mother falls in love with him and the future begins to change as a result, chaos is inevitable. to get everything back on track, marty absolutely must go back to the future.
BACK TO THE FUTURE II after marty’s journey to the past in the first part, the second part takes him to the future, more precisely to the year 2015. here he meets the already beloved figures from the first part again. of course they have aged 30 and 60 years. however, the time machine is stolen from the two travelers by the all-time villain tannen. and so, the past changes. but this time, marty and dr. brown are not stuck in time. instead, they travel back and forth in time. they go from the present to the future, from there back to 1955, and even further.
it is very entertaining to see how steven spielberg �executive production� and robert zemeckis �director� imagined 2015 in 1989, the production year of back to the future ii. even if we haven’t made all the great achievements that we can see in back to the future ii yet, this part is also fascinating for its ideas, humor, and charm.
BACK TO THE FUTURE III
the last part completes the trilogy with a trip to the wild west. here dr. emmett brown lands after being struck by lightning in the flying delorean in the 2nd part. and it is here that marty, who rushes to the doc’s aid and now calls himself clint eastwood, has to deal with buford mad doc tennen. the mean outlaw wants to duel with marty after a small argument. however, this means a fight to life and death. no problem at all, because marty has tracked down his smart friend, dr. brown. too bad marty was careless when he arrived in the past. because the time machine is now out of fuel, but this fuel will only be available many decades later.
the circle is closed in back to the future iii. now, we also meet some irish immigrants, marty’s ancestors. among them, there is the first mcfly to be born in america. we also learn more about the invention of the frisbee. finally, we discover how important it is to wear a hat. comedy plays the main role in back to the future iii. this part of the trilogy deals with many old and modern clichÊs par excellence. it’s simply cute to see the old professor falling in love. at in all, the film finished one of the best film trilogies ever with a timeless message.
THE REMASTERED 4K VERSION
even if the story of time travel wasn’t new, back to the future still holds absolute cult status today. the film is one of the “most influential films” of all time and is certainly a must-see. the idea of being able to travel through time fascinated people long before back to the future. for example, the time machine by h.g. wells was published as early as 1895 and became then a bestseller. the 1960 film adaptation of the same name was also highly successful and is still worth seeing today. however, with its fresh, incredibly amusing, and cheeky story, which also quotes other film classics here and there, with its special effects and through the brilliant actors, above all michael j. fox, back to the future continues to set standards today. and so, the re-release of back to the future in 4k should not be missing in any decent film collection.

what was originally intended before production began as an artistic homage to american film noir evolved into something entirely original and completely new. director jean-luc godard used a completely new visual language, also because of the low budget. the film was shot with available light to save the cost of expensive lighting sets. filming was also done with a handheld camera, among other things. the result is incredibly authentic and timeless images.
GODARD’S JUMP CUT
additionally, godard made the so-called jump cut a special trademark of the nouvelle vague �new wave�. this film editing technique deliberately violates the continuity rules that otherwise apply. these usually ensure that every cut fits together perfectly in its coherence. as a rule, several takes �shots� and settings �perspectives� are necessary for a complete scene. if the light changes, you don’t pay attention to the clock on the wall or the beer foam in the glass, the transition from one scene to the next will be different. if the viewer takes notice of these differences, it could be confusing or even amusing. therefore, it is the job of cutters and their assistants to generally avoid these connection errors. the jump cut, however, plays precisely with the effect of irritation. godard specifically used it for the very first time in breathless. thus, it has established itself as a stylistic standard to this day. the famous cabriolet scene with jean seberg is a prime example of this. it transfers the confusion and uncertainty of the protagonists directly to the audience. by doing so, it captivates the viewers. the contrasting dialogue scenes also play an important role.

but first and foremost, robert redford is a brilliant actor. and what an actor he is. back in 1���, he played a bisexual movie star in inside daisy clover – a unique role by the standards of the time. for his courage, redford won a golden globe. after this, he played �on equal footing� with jane fonda for the first time. first in arthur penn’s the chase �1����, immediately after in gene saks’ barefoot in the park �1���� and then again together in sydney pollack’s the electric horseman �1����.
together with sydney pollack, robert redford also produced the film three days of the condor. joseph turner – code name condor – is an employee in an insignificant new york cia office. at least that’s how it seems – until the day he finds his colleague and lover murdered in cold blood in the office. desperate, turner approaches the cia headquarters looking for help. but condor quickly realizes that he must act on his own if he wants to escape with his life. the killers are already on his track.
much like the french crook michel in breathless, turner seeks help from a beautiful woman. kathy hale is a photographer and terrified when condor forces her to help him. slowly, however, she befriends turner and eventually helps him to execute his plan.
sydney pollack’s intelligent and highly suspenseful political thriller, still red-hot decades after its release, is one of the classics of 1���s paranoia film. the young robert redford shines in his role as a smart bookworm. turner is the antitype of the typical agent role that was prevalent at the time. he’s not a tough-as-nails cia agent, but he knows how to defend himself against the probably most powerful secret service organization in the world.

there is no question that zombie – dawn of the dead is much more than just a horror film. even if the typical 70s drama and the effects no longer seem up-to-date today, they still exude an oppressive, gloomy mood. additionally, zombie – dawn of the dead includes a social criticism that is even relevant today. maybe more than ever. after a small group of survivors saved themselves in a department store and holed up there, they forget the impending danger for a while. the free consumption of completely unnecessary luxury goods is too tempting. the party ends, however, when hundreds of zombies knock on the door to join in the celebration. the influx of zombies into the department store can be seen as symbolic of our often irrational consumer behavior. perhaps we needed a pandemic to realize that our behavior was for a long time less determined by human values. and maybe one or the other of us has mutated more into a zombie than the undead in the film due to the flood of offers.

i’m dealing with the duality of the challenges we face on a daily basis. some songs are darkly colored, others more positive. heaven & hell is the middle ground. on ava max’s official youtube channel you can already find the lyric videos to nearly all of the new album’s tracks, as well as funky remixes and impressive live performances of her songs� simultaneously premiering was the music video for her track naked, directed by hannah lux davis �ariana grande, halsey, doja cat�.
it’s about the real emotions we go through, ava says of the song’s meaning. if you don’t know my head, soul and heart, you won’t know me even when you see me naked. we are more than our physical bodies, that’s what i wanted to express.

THE MAN WHO CHANGED THE WORLD
BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN the 1�th of july 1��� was a hot summer day in berlin. the sky was blue, and the sun shined brightly. the youth organization of the gdr, the fdj, had invited the youth to an exceptional concert. this had a particular reason. in the previous year, riots had broken out when berlin celebrated its ���th anniversary. many events took then place in the east and west-berlin. one of them was the concert for berlin. it was hosted in west berlin, more precisely at the reichstag, right next to the infamous berlin wall. there, three superstars of the ’��s performed at this event. among them was the one and only david bowie. thousands of bowie’s east-german fans flocked to the wall’s east side. the consequence was a rebellion of the crowd. they led to the first-ever protests, which can be – without any doubt – considered as the beginning of the gdr’s end. in the assumption that they would probably never experience their hero live onstage, they tried to listen to him from a distance. in 1���, the wall was still dividing the city into two parts. thus, the stasi, the east-german security service, tried to dissolve the illegal gathering of music fans at the wall. however, nobody could foresee the upcoming course of events back in 1���. on the contrary, the gdr tried to win the revolting youth back over to the usual obedience. and, for this purpose, the fdj organized the most legendary concert in the history of eastern germany. even more: on this fateful day, a special chapter in rock music history was written by none other than bruce springsteen.
A CONCERT THAT CHANGED THE WORLD
only a few international superstars performed in the gdr. the budgets were far too low, and the effort associated with the restrictions that existed in this country was far too high. therefore, it was a big challenge to get a ticket for a concert of an international artist. in the socialist satellite state gdr, there was no chance to purchase concert tickets in a shop during the 1���s and ��s. as usual in a dictatorship, everything was controlled by the state, including the sale of tickets. hence, these were distributed fairly by the government. people who made a special contribution at work, at school, or in their studies were the first ones to have the chance to to get one or two of these coveted entry tickets. i had just graduated from school and was enjoying the summer. although i probably was anything but system-compliant as a punk at the time, my good performance in school made me one of the lucky ones who got a ticket, for only 1�.�� mark. if we now take the unofficial exchange rate from mark �east germany� to d-mark �west germany� and convert this into euros or dollars, we end up - ignoring the inflation, of course - with an amount of only � �.�� or � 1.2�.

to get permission and budget from the government to realize a project, business, or event, it had to relate to a political or social approach. therefore, to manage the bruce springsteen concert, the fdj chose the then 9th anniversary of the nicaraguan revolution as the subject. thus, the original concert ticket shows the slogan concert for nicaragua. but we were not interested in that. at that time, we couldn’t even travel to france or spain, and, thus, we asked ourselves: where the hell is nicaragua� for me and my friends only one thing was important; the name on the ticket: bruce springsteen. we were also not interested in the obligation associated with purchasing the ticket. we were initially made to wear the so-called blue shirt, the uniform of the fdj. that wasn’t cool at all. but what are bags for� even before, at other events organized by the state, we had swapped the shirt with our personal outfit after a short time. thus, we were sure to manage this little problem on this unforgettable day in july 1988.
the concert should start at 7 p.m. entry started at 4 p.m. but we couldn’t stand the tension and were already at the venue at 1 p.m. but when we arrived at the ‘radrennbahn weissensee’ much too early, we could hardly believe our eyes. there was pure chaos. an exceptional state that we had never experienced before. thousands upon thousands of people were already on site. some of them had cards, some didn’t. the latter group in particular was desperate to gain access to the concert area. great, we thought, then we’ll be somewhere in the last row during the concert. the security, which was supposed to keep the growing crowd under control, consisted of pupils, apprentices, and students. they had been assigned to this service by the fdj. without any experience, completely overwhelmed, and even
more, completely planless and helpless. these unfortunate girls and boys fought against the growing pressure of the crowd that shook the barriers. still dressed in our blue shirt, we went to the desperate security guys and pretended to be their reinforcements, assigned by the fdj to help. maybe that was a little mean. anyway, it worked.
THE CLOU
overjoyed, the security forces let us in. and so, for a little more than five minutes, we really helped them to set up and strengthen the barriers. but then, when the time was right and nobody was observing us, we took the chance and ran in the direction of the stage intending to be able to experience the bruce springsteen concert from the front row. at the right time, because a short time later, the gates were opened, and the crowd also stormed to the stage.
that the rain had left in the mud under our feet. as a result, the evaporating water created a sauna effect, which not only made us sweat a lot, but, it also robbed us of the air to breathe. this, as well as the ever-growing crowd that pushed purposefully towards the stage, made similar to the well-known marvel heroes, we us surrender to the situation. transformed while we were heading for the stage. our blue shirts disappeared in some inexplicable, magical way. in my case, the shirt we asked the security staff, who fortunately was replaced by my jack daniels shirt, 5 studded had a professional background here and conbelts, and funny green neon suspenders. a skull sisted of strong guys, to get us out of the scarf rounded off the look. yes, it was like that crowd. for a moment, we were disappointed to back then in the 80s. our worries that the secu- lose our place in the first row. however, when rity would be looking for us quickly evapora- we witnessed how one of our friends, a comted. apparently, all the barriers had been over- petitive athlete, wrestler, thus, a colossus of run. because from second to second the place man, made the security guys struggle with his filled up. it was literally flooded. physical mass as they tried to lift him out of the crowd, our mood quickly brightened up again. in 1988 there were no smartphones to record more and more people poured into the field. this moment. today that funny scene would thus, it got very tight and very hot. what’s have gone viral instantly. more, it got wet. a heavy but warm downpour began. it was very sexy. because now not only we were wet, but everyone around us too. girls and boys. the rain stopped as suddenly as it had started, and the hot summer sun drove the clouds away in a flash. it dried our bodies and clothes in seconds. but it also dried the puddles

while the security was trying to lift our friend over the heads of the others, i had the opportunity to look at the audience. and again, i caught my breath. my gaze wandered over a colorful ocean on which blonde, brown, black, and red waves played. up to the horizon. never ever before had i seen so many people gathered in one place. at that moment i felt that something unique was happening here. still a little disappointed, my friends and i walked to the side. of course, we didn’t want to give up just yet. so, we were looking for a good place to see bruce springsteen’s performance. luckily, it was easier than we thought. because many in the first rows felt the same as us before. they could not withstand the enormous pressure of the crowd. therefore, they had to be pulled out of it. thus, we could advance relaxed and, before the concert started, we were in a good position again. now, we had a
and then it started. i will never forget that moment when the drums of badlands pounded through the gigantic speakers. i had never seen such pa monitors before, let alone heard them. nor had i ever seen such video screens that were set up so that everyone could really experience bruce springsteen live. every beat and sound flowed deeper and deeper into our bodies and our hearts. the power of the music and the special moment automatically brought tears to our eyes. he was there, bruce springsteen. and he played for us. in east berlin. before him, other great international artists had already performed in east berlin. one of those was depeche mode. of course, the guys from basildon, uk, had a lot of fans in the gdr. they brought berlin to a boil in march 1988. due to the low budget available to the gdr, however, they only played excerpts from their concert program. springsteen, on the other hand, played an incredible � hours.
and he played rock at its finest� during the short break, which he allowed himself in the middle of the concert, he only changed his clothes quickly. then he answered questions from the east german press representatives in a kindly, no, even amicable manner.
THE MAGIC OF BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN
so, this bruce springsteen concert became an unforgettable highlight for all visitors on so many levels. even more, it was just magical. one of those truly magical moments was when springsteen brought a pretty girl out of the audience to dance to dancing in the dark with her. when the two of them hugged, none of the crowd felt any kind of envy. everyone rejoiced with the chosen one. besides, certainly, everybody saw in her a representative for all of us. despite the incredible crowd, bruce springsteen became approachable to everyone. moving and magical was also that special moment when bruce springsteen took a note out of his pocket and said in german:
i want to tell you i’m not here for or against any government. i’ve come to play rock ‘n’ roll for you east-berliners. in the hope that one day all the barriers will be torn down. even if bruce springsteen had heeded the advice of his tour management, which asked him beforehand to tone down the speech and not to use the term “wall”, the speech did not miss its effect. springsteen’s message got under everyone’s skin. it caused an outcry of freedom that sparked an energy that words cannot describe.
THE HIGHLIGHT
probably the most impressive moment of the evening, however, is difficult to recognize and understand for those people who were lucky enough to be allowed to grow up in freedom when looking at the old video recordings.
however, those who have had the painful experience of living in a country in which values such as freedom – including freedom of speech – and, thus, essential human rights are disregarded by the government, know what it means to break political taboos in public. for the east german government, the usa was the symbol of decadence and capitalism. the gdr considered the united states of america as an enemy of the state. therefore, the small country used all means to defend against this corrupt and depraved system. this ideology was diligently taught to children in their first years of primary school. pure brainwashing, that failed luckily.
the boss. and so, of course, bruce springsteen played born in the usa. the energy of a volcanic eruption is nothing compared to the energy that arose when hundreds of thousands of east germans sang these iconic lyrics with him at the top of their lungs. during the song, music and joy dominated. after the song, however, everyone felt the energy and power that united the crowd. at this moment, that much is certain, most people felt that this powerful connection, this strong feeling, and this unique solidarity have the power to change the country and thereby the world.

because now bruce springsteen was on stage. in the middle of east berlin. the organizers of the concert had prohibited him in ad- in 240 minutes, bruce springsteen took us all vance to play what is probably his most famous into a completely different, beautiful, and song. however, nobody can dictate rules to lovable world. he not only played rock. but he gave us love. moreover, for a moment he showed the people who lived behind the wall what freedom means. this strong feeling that the rock star, who has always remained loyal to his homeland new jersey, gave to the people, generated an irrepressible urge for freedom. and exactly that was what should ultimately lead to the fall of the wall.
to this day, i carry this feeling of pleasure and freedom deep inside me, which i was able to experience for only 20 marks back then. it always comes back when i hear a song by the boss of rock.
BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN IS SENDING NOW A "LETTER TO YOU" it becomes particularly thrilling for all rock fans when the boss releases a new album after having a long break from publishing. shortly before his ��th birthday, he ended his five-year break in june 2�1� with the worldwide number one album western stars. now letter to you brings the boss back on stage: bruce springsteen. many thousands of people around the world were tied to their home office this year. bruce springsteen also recorded the new album in his home studio in his hometown new jersey. the down-to-earth superstar stayed loyal to this small state on the east coast all his life. the twelve-song long-player is the 2�th studio album of his career. bruce springsteen was again supported by the e street band, of which he has been the bandleader for almost �� years. letter to you is springsteen’s first performance together with the e street band since the the river tour in 2�1�, which was named a top global tour by billboard and pollstar. the musicians included roy bittan, nils lofgren, patti scialfa, garry tallent, stevie van zandt, max weinberg, charlie giordano, and jake clemons.
i love the emotionality of ‘letter to you’. and i love the sound of the e street band playing completely live in the studio, as we’ve never done before, without overdubs. we recorded the album in just five days. thereby, it turned out to be one of the greatest recording experiences i’ve ever had. bruce springsteen

charlotte jane wants to become friends with the monsters under her bed. in her opinion, this requires vulnerability and honesty. and a few good songs on top of that can’t hurt.

she has been performing on stage since she was six years old. she performed in arenas when she was only eleven and has been writing her own songs ever since. as of last year, charlotte feels the time has come to show the world her innermost self and face her mission. but don’t panic, it won’t be scary.
“my songs are about insights i wish i’d had earlier. it’s all about self-acceptance, about being patient with yourself and not expecting someone else to fix everything for you. you have to do that yourself.” charlotte jane 22-year-old, in fact, but the thoughtful artist insists that 2�2� doesn’t count as a year. and we should all be able to subtract it from our age. in her songs, she paints the themes of introspection and her own self in vivid colors, as they talk about insecurity, sincerity, and truth. from the open-hearted, unprotected and exposed down days to the instruction manual for falling in love baby steps, and to an exquisitely executed reworking of the ��s r�b hit if you love me, her music is a prime example of the power of understatement.
GET IT RIGHT
her songs are performed with a voice that definitely doesn’t have to scream to be heard. the songs on her new ep, written over a two-year period and finalized during the first lockdown, reflect the sound of someone figuring out how life and love work in real-time.
in this regard, get it right is without a doubt a highlight. it is one of the oldest among the new songs. but its stripped-down sound shines much more today than it did when it was written about two years ago. the song is a reaction to a guy who had been toying with her feelings for over a year.
in short, i got dumped. i was insulted and humiliated. but at that moment, i came to the realization that i wasn’t going to let myself be treated like crap again. charlotte jane
the next morning, she met with the two well-known songsmiths dayyon alexander �ella mai, demi lovato� and jeff shum �john legend, camila cabello� for a songwriting session.
“it was our first collaboration, but i knew it wouldn’t be the last,” she says. and she was right, as dayyon later took on the role as the executive producer for charlotte’s entire ep. but charlotte jane’s earliest memories include performing with her grandparents, who toured spain and germany as a soul duo. at the age of three, charlotte played tambourine with them on stage and within a couple of years she was performing complete songs. at home, charlotte jane also started writing her own songs early on, but she never performed them. her self-confidence only began to grow when she discovered the local pop choir at the age of eleven. with performances at the o2, wembley or the liverpool echo arena she already sang her first solos on stage.
“and that was the time when i started to come out of my shell. it was insane.” explains charlotte smirkingly.
but an unforeseen event prevented charlotte from taking off at that point. she was in shock when her parents announced that the family would have to move to singapore for employment reasons. charlotte jane didn’t even have the time to process this news, because just a week after the announcement, the family moved.
“i was sad, but most of the time i was just angry at everyone, this time i had something to say. before, i was writing about things i’d heard from other people or things i’d seen on tv. in singapore, i wrote about exactly what i was feeling. the songs were my outlet.” two years later, things changed again, as the family returned to england. charlotte then began performing at open mic nights in the hull area, but she struggled to see where the music would take her. i knew where i wanted to go. i didn’t know how to go about it, though. charlotte started playing gigs in the northeast and met a manager who helped her set up recording sessions on weekends and school vacations. then, when she finished school, she was ready for the next step. at home, charlotte jane also started writing her own songs early on, but she never performed them. her self-confidence only began to grow when she discovered the local pop choir at the age of eleven. with performances at the o2, wembley, or the liverpool echo arena, she already sang her first solo performances on stage.
“i told my manager, ‘here’s what we’re going to do: give me three months to travel, and then i want to have a full schedule.” charlotte then traveled around europe for three months via interrail. on her trip, she visited berlin, budapest, amsterdam, and italy. excited, she then returned to england and found a plane ticket to la in her mail. and so she was off to california, where charlotte jane got to spend two weeks writing with legendary beyoncé songwriter and pop colossus toby gad, among others. things went well, and gad offered her a publishing contract on the spot.
“i’m like, ‘totally awesome – what’s a publishing deal�'” so the two weeks turned into a month and a half.
“it was like a whirlwind. it felt surreal, and was so far away from everything i was used to. for the first time, i felt like this could all be real.” what did feel real, however, was her debut ep named nowhere to hide, released back in 2�1�. this four-track explosion of sentimental songs like nervous and i tell lies, immediately generated millions of streams worldwide.
in the following, charlotte jane established herself as one of the uk’s most brilliant new voices. this opened up opportunities for her to play her own shows and perform with musicians like jess glynne, dennis lloyd, lewis capaldi, or tom odell.
CHARLOTTE JANE HAS GROWN WITH HER 2020 EP
which brings us back to 2020 and an ep whose stripped-down sound reflects charlotte’s growing confidence.
“instead of unnecessarily complicating the production, i’m allowing my vocals and lyrics to take center stage for the first time. these are the songs where i feel the most vulnerable, but they’re also the ones in which i’m more honest than i’ve ever been before.”
that is felt unmistakably on get it right. but baby steps, which documents the tentative early stages of charlotte’s first real relationship, also reflects that honesty. we witness the same thing in down days, which is as unguarded as it is relentless.
when i’m so insecure that i can’t look at myself in the mirror or leave the house. even people close to me rarely see that side of me. i’ve never felt like i could talk about it before, either. her bold reworking of brownstone’s if you love me has its roots in charlotte’s childhood. it’s a flashback to the playlist charlotte jane used to listen to in the car with her mother.
“it’s the antithesis of ‘get it right,’ which is about looking back. this song proclaims, ‘i’m evolving. if you want to be with me, here are my rules. beyond that, you should be aware of what my expectations are.” the song is daring, dynamic and, as charlotte says: the missing piece of the ep. the song i just couldn’t have written myself. if there’s one overall message in charlotte jane’s rarely opulent new sound, it’s acceptance.
“it’s okay not to be a complete and perfect person. don’t let that slow you down. be self-critical and deal with how you act and process. when you understand how you really work, you can question yourself. these songs tell a really important story about my journey with love and my own evolution over the last two years of my life. i would love it if they touched people. especially those who feel like something is holding them back from embarking on their own journey.” with a particularly emotive voice, sensational lyrical skills, and an engaging personality, charlotte jane now sets off to the next chapter of her journey. she can’t promise that there won’t be challenges along the way, because her mission isn’t over yet. there could still be one or two monsters under the bed, but either way, we are invited to join charlotte jane on her journey. if you want to check out all of the big and little milestones along charlotte jane’s journey, you can perfectly do so on her youtube channel.

men don’t have it easy either. awww. no, honestly, before the crowd starts booing. we live in a world where the idea of survival of the fittest has been ruling since the first single-celled organisms. but what happens to those sensitive people who devote themselves to art for the sake of feeling� how do they find their way through the world� and what’s more, how can they remain true to themselves in their quest for success� perhaps he cannot answer all of these questions. but in any case, this musician has an extremely exciting insight regarding this philosophical topic through his own life story and his catchy songs: justin jesso.
THE STORY OF JUSTIN JESSO music runs in the family for justin stein, the singer’s real name. his great-grandfather, to whom he owes his self-chosen last name jesso, was also a musician. and what a musician he was. as a well-known bandleader in the wild 1�2�s, his piano skills delighted chicago gangster boss al capone and his companions, among others. his far less shady grandmother plays an even more decisive role in the current success of the american singer and songwriter. it was she who sent the �-year-old toddler onto a stage for the first time. after this brief first performance, it was unalterably clear to him that he wanted to spend the rest of his life as a musician in front of huge audiences. since then, justin jesso has been driven primarily by two things: his incredible talent, and his almost obsessive ambition to prove it to himself and to the world. his stellar music career basically began before justin could even speak his first word.
“my mom always likes to tell this funny story. i was one year old screaming at the top of my lungs during the entire super bowl broadcast. but when whitney houston sang her version of the national anthem during the halftime performance, i was so mesmerized by her voice that i immediately stopped crying. the moment her last note faded away, my crying started all over again,” justin says with a laugh.

this year’s mine�� collection features a very special tupac collaboration since jake was an avid rap fan and tupac was one of his favorite artists.in honor of this collaboration, burton will be making a donation to a place called home. founded in 1���, a place called home provides a safe, nurturing environment with proven programs in arts, education, and wellness for the young people in south central los angeles. the aim is to help them improve their economic conditions and develop healthy, fulfilling, and purposeful lives. tupac played a role in the founding of this organization and was among other musicians who helped found their recording studio where members learn to edit and create their own music to this day.

therefore, levi’s® and new balance® are two brands with a long tradition. now, both look now to the future together. they teamed up already last season to celebrate their beginnings. now they are coming together again to bring out a joint collection for winter 2�2� that will celebrate icons of the next generation.

with the new �2�, levi’s and new balance have designed a retro-meets-modern sneaker based on the �2�. the famous original new balance running shoe. the collection consists of three sneaker models in varying denim washings. the levi’s x new balance �2� is available in indigo and gray for men. the light wash denim is perfect for women. it features a waffle sole used in the 1���s. furthermore, it features the modern, oversized “n” logo on the outside. additionally, the classic “nb” logo in blue and white adorns the shoelace. besides, on the side is the famous levi’s red tab.
there is also a choice of reversible trucker jackets, each with a classic denim side, typically for levi’s. furthermore, there is a newly designed, quilted side in the new balance design. the levi’s side consists of a patchwork of three different denim tones – in indigo or gray for men, and in sky blue, gray, and white for women. the new balance side convinces in quilted white with dark blue collar and cuffs. for women, it is available in a quilted white with gray sleeves. a sky-blue collar and cuffs complete this line. all three trucker jackets also have an oversized new balance® logo in shades of gray with reflective �m embroidery. this is an allusion to the reflective elements of the new balance® running shoe on the back of the quilted side. the campaign, photographed by photographer, stylist, and creative director was inspired by the concepts of duality and yin-yang and bring the reversible design and paneling of the shoes and clothing to life.

together they form an architectural design whose main lines become a unit of measurement in a universal language, whose powerful graphic nature transcends borders and genders.
THE FIRST CHAPTER the first chapter showcases the l and v authentically in their pure form. the lines cut through space, creating angles inside, in which brilliant gold and fiery diamonds play off each other.
the two capital letters come together, split apart, gather, fall away, contrast, blend, stack up, interact, and complete each other, bringing to life a scene of symbols exploring light, space, and rhythm through their unexpected yet inextricable resources.
THE SECOND CHAPTER the rhythm picks up in the second chapter as the ranges become more intricate. l and v become chain links of myriad textures, volumes, finishes, and dimensions. then, the initials materialize one set after another, emerging as prismatic figures, presenting themselves as tubular structures.

one of pernille’s childhood friends is a photographer. many years ago, he took a beautiful picture of part of the government building in berlin. that photo has always had a special place in pernille’s heart, and she has kept it ever since. every time she’s in berlin, she makes time to visit the particular spot where the photo was taken.
the entire area around the government building and the contrast between the raw concrete, glass, and soft architectural shapes fascinate her greatly. and there are indeed obvious parallels between the picture from berlin and many of the coin jewelry in the collection.
”i’m quite drawn to shapes in architecture, and my attention most often falls on buildings that appear raw and in decay rather than the more obviously beautiful buildings. urbanity, buildings, and people with contrasts fascinate me.”

PROTEST PVRE GREEN COLLECTION when you think of the netherlands, you think of many sporting activities. you think of cycling, football and much more. in one of the flattest countries in the world, board sports are probably less popular. and yet, right here, where there are just five hills and 1� waves, a design-oriented boardwear company was launched in 1��� by a small group of board sports enthusiasts. since then, they have dedicated themselves to the goal of beautifying the world of snow and water. the fact that this group does not follow any conventions is reflected in its name: protest.
now protest is proud to present the new pvre green collection. it is the ultimate fusion of the highly functional pvre series and sustainable production.
as part of this line, protest implements every item of clothing as sustainably and ethically correctly as possible. it starts with the material through to details such as the zippers. the aim is to minimize the carbon footprint as much as possible. materials such as recycled nylon, polyester, and tpu are used. the padded insulation of some jackets is made of bamboo.
THE ECO-FRIENDLY WATERPROOF
an important function of ski and snowboard clothing is water resistance. the sportswear industry uses perforated chemicals, or pfcs, to make the clothing waterproof. however, pfcs have detrimental effects on humans and animals as well as on the ecosystem as a whole. protest has found a replacement for pfc that is waterproof and breathable at the same time. the water resistance found in nature was the inspiration for the new coating. besides, it is based on a fluorine-free formulation.
the hard-shell layer consists of 1�� � recycled polyester and a padded inner jacket. the zippers are made using recycled tpu. besides, the jacket is pfc-free – absolutely sustainable and extremely functional. the ski and snowboard jackets of the pvre green line combine above-average functionality with sustainability. the alison model provides the best protection against cold and wet on the mountain. here, too, recycled polyester and an environmentally friendly waterproofing process are used instead of pfcs.
the ski and snowboard jacket is both elegant and functional and is suitable not only for adventures on the mountain, but also for winter in the city - and sustainably!

nxg was founded in 2�2�. on the one hand, the inspiration was the urban spirit. on the other hand, a vision was to bring a new dimension to streetwear. thus, nxg stands for ‘next generation’ and it is the fusion of street edge with quality details. the protest designers have created a line of innovative shapes; garments that are unique, flattering, and eye-catching. the prints are minimalistic, the colors are ontrend.

madison beer is blending grunge, r�b, and pop together with the help of producers big taste and one love. this creates a very unique sound, which is dominated by flowy synths, driving melodies, and somewhat dark, mysterious sounds. her relatively deep, but nonetheless seductive voice brings it all together. paper magazine said: “with a voice that could be the product of a christina aguilera and amy winehouse union, it’s no wonder beer is hot property.” in addition to that, madison is just as, or even mesmerizingly hotter than the two music amazons aguilera and winehouse. the combination of beer’s seemingly perfect body with hot curves and the cat-eyed, cute but at the same time lusciously sexy face is probably able to make people faint. but madison beer obviously doesn’t rely on her appearance for success. she delivers amazing vocals and cool video clips one track after the other.
as a result, billboard included beer as one of their 21 under 21 young talents to watch in 2�1�. she was named the sensation of the moment by vogue italia and tipped as an artist to watch by nme. true words, as beer also became the first independent female solo artist to break the top 2� radio charts with the emboldened track home with you.

the newest single, just released two weeks ago, is a real dance track. boyshit is playful, groovy and cheerful, as highlighted in the way madison lets go while dancing in the vevo clip. she impresses with her confidence as well as her party outfit dominated by leather. this alternative yet cool look she wears ties together the funky beat and the fed-up lyrics she presents.
boyshit is a back-to-the-roots moment on my album; i really wanted it to radiate the same confidence as songs like home with you and dead. on the track boyshit we played with the words. we really had fun in the studio and didn’t take ourselves too seriously. with the line i don’t speak boyshit’ i just mean, that i don’t have time for childish arguments, i don’t have time for b*llshit. if you can’t change, then i’ll just move on. boyshit is therefore a tribute to being confident, staying strong, and the unnecessity to change for someone who isn’t worth it at all. all in all, madison’s growth as a person and a woman is noticeable. she herself openly states that people that play childish games are not worth the time and the focus of a woman who is sure of herself. definitely a powerful message to confidently step into 2�21!

perrie edwards, jesy nelson, leigh-anne pinnock, and jade thirlwall have been extremely busy during the first lockdown. their quarantine period was put to good use to finish their sixth album. confetti is its title, and it came out on november �. it features their recent hit singles holiday, as well as break up song, among others. let’s all welcome the arrival of the new album of little mix�
with more than fifty million records sold worldwide, eighteen million spotify listeners and three billion youtube views, little mix are the most successful girl band in the world. in 2�1�, the band received their second brit award - this time in the best british video category for the hit woman like me, which they also performed live at the award show. furthermore, they received two global awards �best group and best songs� and their fourth ema award for best uk & ireland act.
their hit song of 2�2�, break up song, has amassed more than �� million times to date, giving little mix their 1�th top ten hit on the uk charts in their career. in november, the band will host through the mtv emas, where they will also perform. little mix is excited: “what an honor� to present the mtv emas is a dream, it’s such a special event. we’ve always loved watching the spectacular performances and learning who everyone voted the winner. this year we will also present our new single ‘sweet melody’ – our second ema performance. the show will go on and we can’t wait�”
THE GIRLBAND IS THROWING CONFETTI
little mix aka jade, perrie, leigh-anne, and jesy has been working on their sixth album for almost a whole year. and at the beginning of november, the long-player, eagerly awaited by hundreds of thousands of fans, has finally been released. confetti, as the title reads, is a confident, danceable pop record and definitely is worthy of getting in line with the � prior smash albums. it will contain thirteen solid gold pop songs and once again prove the exceptional talent that the four members have for great, crossgenerational pop. shortly before, the quartet presented another foretaste of the upcoming album by dropping the track sweet melody. the song was written in collaboration with ariana-grande-collaborator tayla parx and co-produced by hit producer mnek �joel corry, years & years, stormzy, beyoncé, and others�. the result is a pulsating and infectious pop song with gigantic harmonies and a driving beat. the official video for the single came out at the same time.
unfortunately, shortly after the album release, a quarter of the band confirmed to leave the successful pop group. on december 1�, jesy nelson publicly announced that she will no longer be a part of little mix. at first, she just meant to take a break. however, stress and public pressure were harsh on the former band member’s mental health, as she explains in a statement. she now wants to spend time with her loved ones and do things that make her happy. she is ready for a new chapter and continues to hope for the support of her fans. but the band little mix will definitely keep on living. after having said a sad but duly farewell to jesy, its three remaining members dedicate themselves to upcoming events. one of those is the confetti tour planned for next year. because parallel to the new album, the successful quartet announced an extensive uk and ireland tour, which will take place in april and may 2�21. the official pre-sale for this already started on september 2�. one pound per ticket will go to the organizations black minds matter uk and the nordoff robbins music therapy. the latter played an important role in the band’s sensational success story, including vocal coaches, songwriters, producers, and stylists. in addition, the winning band will have the opportunity to join little mix on their confetti tour 2�21.
LITTLE MIX ON BIG SCREENS
on september 2�, a brand new season of the tv show little mix the search premiered on bbc one. in the series produced by modesttv, the four female singers help to form new bands. jade, perrie, leigh-anne, and jesy take on the role of mentors for the young talents. the newcomer singers who make the leap into these new bands will live together and moreover gain access to little mix’s inner circle.
as if that is not already enough of an on-screen appearance, the girlband also released a whole cinema movie this year. since 21st november, the concert film little mix: lm� – the tour film has been shown in many cinemas worldwide. it was recorded during the last show of little mix’ last tour, the lm� tour, in the legendary o2 arena of london. obviously, the former four, now three little mixers have accomplished a lot this year. they also managed to announce plenty of things that their fanbase can look forward to in the nearer future. so thank you for that, little mix, and a happy new year 2�21�
