Even more grey, than those East German cities, which had been characterized by years of mismanagement and an economy of scarcity, ever could be.

The ultimate battle between the good and the evil, between egoism, envy or hate and courage, love and amity. Things, which affect also our everyday life. From the very first time, I was so excited to see, how essential values of our life were skillfully replaced to a galaxy far, far away. Moreover, I was surprised by its effect upon the audience and me. Shifting space and time, the story enables to understand the things of reality much better, than a authentic drama could make it possible. The best way to make things easier to understand is the activation of our phantasy. I was and I am simply overwhelmed by the spirit of the saga of STAR WARS. Certainly,
there are many people, who aren’t able to open their minds
for the hidden story of
STAR WARS. Those people see only action and That’s ok, but those who take time to pay
science fiction in these movies.
a closer attention, those who listen to the words and looking beyond the horizon, those will recognize the depth of the story behind STAR WARS.
STAR WARS is more than pure science-fiction or a mere action spectacle. It is a confrontation with our world and with all of its problems. Similar to a fable, the STAR WARS story presents issues and happenings of our everyday life re-placed to imaginative places and embodied by likeable figures or unpleasant creatures. Those, who are able to feel – besides just thinking – will experience a simple as well as ingenious story, including a partial naive but always authentic representation of good and evil. On the one hand, there is the dark side, characterized by suspicion and temptation, by carelessness and fear, by power, greed and hate. On the other side, there is the light side that obtains its power from the courage, loyalty, trust, love and the unconditional friendship of its heroes. We know all of this, because these are the values and problems of our everyday life. The most of us are looking for peace and loyal friends like Han Solo, Chewbacca Luke Skywalker. They are idols for many people. Furthermore, quite a lot of people wish to travel to the stars, to fight for the good and cover oneself with glory and honor. So not only our mind, but rather our longings and feelings are equally addressed without any detours. Thereby, the age or generation is completely unimportant. Who has ever been infected with the STAR WARS virus, isn’t able to free itself of him anymore.

As a young man in the 90ies, I deplored the fact that I had never seen the powerful pictures of STAR WARS on the big screen. That regret lasted until those day, when LucasArts announced the release of the Remastered Versions. I was playing hooky, to see the movies as much as possible. On the release day of The Return of the Jedi I saw this episode four times in the cinema. I don’t know, how often I saw it in total during the years. I just can’t get enough. Especially this episode gives me power and peace, it makes me happy and calm, it makes me sad in one minute and smiling in the other. When George Lucas announced the next episodes, which play before the older ones, I hoped, that I will experience a continuation of these intensive feelings. But I was disappointed, because of the lack of mystic, romantic and good playing actors. The CGI-locations were colorful but cold. The story wasn’t logical and focused on effects and acti-
on. Of course, the times change and the young generation loves especially these episodes, because they reflect the respective spirit of that time. Similar to the movie “The Polar Express” I thought, I become too old to hear the little magic bell ringing. With this background and with mixed feelings I experienced the year 2015. On the one hand full of both curiosity and enthusiasm, but on the other hand full of worries to get disappointed. Also the sale of the copy rights and licenses to Walt Disney raised new questions in my mind. Of course, Disney is the biggest player in the movie business and certainly able to create very great movies, but would be the team really able to feel the emotions? I asked myself, if the crew could handle the refinement, all of the important features, which are close related with the old prequels of The Force Awakens? I was happy, when I heard that Harrison Ford will come back, but I start to ask myself,
if it will fit with the story? Is his return logical or only a commercial feature to reach a wide group of viewers? However, because of my questions and insecurity I evaded the hype of the month before the film start, until the 15. December 2015, when I had the special honor to belong to the international press guests, who were invited to see STAR WARS - The Force Awakens. On those day, the circle was completed. The Force Awakens continues seamlessly The Return of the Jedi; and to do so not simply in terms of the content, but also with regard to the atmosphere, profoundness, emotion, humor and imagery. I was spellbound by the bombastic pictures for 135 magical minutes. A presence I haven’t felt since… I met the heroes of my youth and I recognized that they were always on my side. Moreover, they even bring new friends, which we have to simply love, the one more, the other less. As the most colleagues on that day, I came out
of the cinema with a relaxed smile on my face, calm and happy. It needed a while, until I returned to reality, too amazing was the trip to the stars. For me it is a matter of fact: The Force Awakens will all STAR WARS fans make happy, the youth as well as the older ones among them. What makes the The Force Awakens as well as the entire STAR WARS universe so special, I would like to show you on the following pages. Have fun and… May the force be with you.

THANK THE MAKER - J.J. ABRAMS Born in New York and raised in Los Angeles, multi-talent J.J. Abrams is a child of two movie mega cities. The film and TV producer, screenwriter and composer has make his mark as creative head, who was involved in the development and production of successful TV series such as Felicity, Alias, Fringe and Lost. Tom Cruise was impressed by Abrams work and invited him to write the script for Mission Impossible III and to direct the movie. Later, Abrams produced Mission Impossible – Rouge Nation and Ghost Protocol. Further blockbuster productions followed, such as Star Trek and Star Trek – Into Darkness, Super 8 and Morning Glory, the letter with Harrison Ford. Abrams worked several times with the super star. The first time in the young age of 25 years, when he wrote the script for Regarding Henry. He wrote also scripts for many other successful actors and movie, like Taking Care of Business with James Belushi, Forever Young with Mel Gibson) or Armageddon with Bruce Willis. Also as producer, Abrams is very successful. Besides Mission Impossible, he produced the amazing monster shocker Cloverfield. Already in that movie, Abrams proved a good instinct for new talents, when he gave an important role to the young and beautiful Odette Annable. It seems that all of J.J. Abrams projects will be a big success. With The Force Awakens, Abrams accept the inheritance of Geroge Lucas following own ways. Maybe because of his experience or age, but it seems that Abrams is closer to the origin of STAR WARS that Lucas itself. For the beginning, Abrams maintains control over the complete project. He was responsible for production, script and direction. No wonder, that Abrams became unsure short time before the release of the new movie. He asked the fans to shouldn’t expect too much. According to his arguments, it would be simply impossible to reach the high level of Return of the Jedi. That concern completely unnecessary, because he did a great job in all areas. He created a coherent and conclusive story as well as a imagery, that isn’t just a sequel of Episode IV to VI, but a new milestone in the history of film.

J.J. Abrams major strengths are his vision and his empathy. He was sure that the future of STAR WARS couldn’t be based on pure sensationalism, CGI and gigantic laser-battles. Abrams attached value to deep emotions, simplicity, an easy language, a warm imagery and last but not least authenticity. He followed the original models of A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back and The Return of Jedi. When we compare Yoda in the old movies and in Episode I – III we recognize a lack of warmth and near. Thus, Abrams created many figures physical, in reality, but not in the computer. It was a very huge step back to the roots. The smart balance between CGI (computer animations) and real sceneries and figures intensify the authentic character of the movie. Today also like 39 years ago, the makers love and their attention to details, the skillful manual work as well as the physical models create futuristic worlds, which look fascinating as well as real. What caused by a low-budget once, costs a lot of money today, but with production costs of 200 million US Dollars STAR WARS doesn’t belongs to the most expensive productions of all time. So we can recognize, that not a high budget is a guarantor for quality and success, but heart and soul as well as a good story and authentic characters. All of this is what makes STAR WARS – The Force Awakens so fascinating and emotional. J.J. Abrams leads us skillfully and gently to an amazing galaxy far, far away.

At the age of 73 years, Harrison Ford makes countless fans happy, when he plays the role of his life Han Solo again. He was the real hero for many STAR WARS fans. His freshness and sense of humor, his refinement and charm changed a supporting act to a timeless hero. Han Solo plays a decisive role in the STAR WARS universe. He will remain in our hearts and minds as the pirate with the fastest hunk of junk in the galaxy. In April this year, the star met the new STAR WARS generation. BB-8 Meets R2-D2 and C3po Han Solo couldn’t do anything with droids his entire life. Ever, he prefers to rely on his intelligence, skills and – last but not least – his blaster. Nevertheless, he has to share the leading position in the STAR WARS scale of popularity with an astromech-droid, which is loved equally by the youth as well as the old: R2-D2. The beeping electro-dwarf and its golden shimmering partner C3PO helped the human heroes not only to win some combats and wars, but they fought also the one or other verbal battle among themselves: “Don't call me a mindless philosopher, you overweight glob of grease!” gladHowever, they were also always bosom buddies: “Sir, if any of my circuits or gears will help, I'll ly donate them”, provides C3PO to help his wounded blue-white friend after the victory over the first Dead Star. From the first moment, the both droids are characterized by the highest human values, which seemed lost for a while. R2-D2 and C3PO are true friends. They are honesty, selfless and loyal. They are fearful and courage at the same time and they face always new challenges unhesitatingly. J.J. Abrams has poured these valuable characteristics into a new form. He isn’t showing simple functional or cute machines, but real personalities, loyal partners and friends of human beings on an equal footing, such as the new addition to the family: BB-8. The little spherical astromech could be a strong competition to R2-D2 in the future. With its human acting, similar to a cunning, curious and sometimes cheeky kid, with its deep feelings and smart jokes; BB-8 is totally loveable from the first moment. Everybody feels with the little droid and anybody wants to hug it. With BB-8, Abrams has succeeded a future-proofed upgrade of the droid family, that makes not only a good figure on screen, but that also rounds up the domestic game and figure collection perfectly.

FiRST oRDER Thus the dead of emperor Palpatine and Darth Vader didn’t lead the galaxy in peace. It wasn’t the end of the Empire. Instead, the destruction of the second Death Star laid the foundation stone for a new organization. The New Republic’s rise reduced the once-mighty Empire to a weak organization hemmed in by strict disarmament treaties and punishing reparations. But in the galaxy’s unknown regions, former Imperial officers, nobles and technologists plotted a return to power, building fleets and armies in secret. This movement became the First Order, ruled by Supreme Leader Snoke. There are many parallels to the old empire, but it seems that the leaders of the First Order are more individual and power-hungrily than their predecessors. The new elite has detected the causes for the failure of the old empire, and they have learned from the mistakes of the past. Some of them are looking also for revenge and in general the First Order is now ready to reclaim the Imperial legacy. However, supreme leader Snoke – who could be a creature, that was born in a darker far-off galaxy - controls the system from a secret base of operations. In form of a holographic projection he contacts his underlings from this mobile command post. Snoke is powerful with the dark side of the Force, and seduced Kylo Ren into abandoning the Jedi path to become his apprentice. But Snoke also commands General Hux and the technological war machine the First Order has engineered to destroy the New Republic and Leia Organa’s Resistance. Once a pupil of Luke Skywalker’s, he killed his fellow students and drove Skywalker into exile. The great reward was the rise to a First Order warlord and servant of Supreme Leader Snoke. These uniforms offer a wide range of survival equipment and temperature controls to allow the soldiers to survive in almost any environment. Members of this new generation of Stormtroopers are trained from birth, growing up with unit designations instead of names and fed a steady diet of First Order propaganda to ensure absolute loyalty. The Stormtroopers wield blaster rifles and pistols with great skill, and attack in hordes to overwhelm their enemies. Where the Empire opted for numbing routine, the First Order’s training simulations and live-fire drills encourage improvisation on the battlefield, making these Stormtroopers more dangerous than their Imperial predecessors.

The new TIE fighter look similar to the former models, made by the Galactic Empire. The First Order kept the traditional design, but has upgraded the ships with new technique to fulfil modern combat standards. Besides the standard TIE fighter, the elite Special Forces pilots fly a two-seat strike fighter with TIE/SF boasts weapons far more powerful than a standard TIE, combining laser cannons with a heavy turret and warhead launcher. Special Forces TIEs have hyper-drives, deflector shields and high-yield cells that provide additional power to onboard systems. These versatile attack ships are used for everything from reconnaissance to combat operations.

Moreover, he made old fans very happy and added a complete new STAR WARS generation. He has given back the original STAR WARS universe to all of them. His idea was as simple as it was ingenious: to find an authentic balance between a groundbreaking CGI and the work with real personalities and authentic locations. While the last episodes had the character of a comic-strip for kids, Abrams found the way back to show us a world, which could we find in our own galaxy. Reduced to the limit and always the focus on details, Abrams leaves room for reality and warmth. Due to the smart choice of real locations and sets, he shows us again the mystic, beauty and authenticity of the origin STAR WARS episodes. The fans will be thankful.

Due to this dreams, this boy is very familar to us. Who had never the same dreams? Who has never wished to travel to the stars and discover new worlds, when watching the heaven by night? The young boy is named Luke Skywalker. He lives on a waste planet called Tatooine. Here is nothing else than a desert, some strange and dangerous creatures and Mos Eisley, a grubby spaceport full of smugglers and other outlaws. "Well, if there's a bright center to the universe, you're on the planet that it's farthest from." (Luke Skywalker) Due to a holographic projection, Luke sees the beautiful princess Leia the first time. Her message is addressed to a general named Obi-Wan Kenobi: “Help me, Obi-Wan Kenobi. You’re my only hope”. Although, Luke has never heard this name, he thinks to know who is meant. Because of the darkness, Luke prefers to wait until the next day, but the cheeky droid runs away in the night. The next morning, Luke starts to look for the droid and meets ObiWan. The old man takes the boy with him and tells him stories of a time of honor long ago. He talks about great battles and about Luke’s father. Luke’s uncle told him, that he was a navigator on a spice freighter, but now Luke finds out, that his father was a warrior and a good pilot as well as a friend of Obi-Wan. The old man tells Luke, that a young pupil named Darth Vader killed his father when he turned to evil. While explaining the secrets of the force, Obi-Wan gives the father’s lightsaber to Luke, inviting him to accompany the Jedi to save the princess. Neither Luke nor Obi-Wan own a spaceship and so they hire the smuggler Han Solo, who claims to have the fastest ship of the galaxy. Luke is shocked, when he sees the Hans ship, the Millennium Falcon the first time: “What a piece of junk”, he says. But Han calms him down and the journey to the stars starts. They rescue the princes, but sacrificing himself to save the others, Obi-Wan dies by the hand of his pupil Darth Vader. The survivors fly to the Rebel Alliance base on Yavin 4, where they study the plans of the Death Star. After they have found a weak point of this ultimate weapon, they complete armada of the rebels start the attack. Luke asks Han to help, but he isn’t interested to be a hero, but in money only. Many rebels die in combat, but at the end Luke feels the power and destroy – with Hans help – the Death Star.
