ABSTRACT ADDICTIONS THE EDGE OF TOTALITY
Our new catalogue titled “The Edge of Totality” is the dividing line between seeing and not seeing, from this point one can begin to visualize the phenomena whose durations are limited to what one can com- prehend...... this is the heart and magic of art, never knowing or understanding and always revealing.......
BEING ON THE EDGE.......never arriving and forever stimulating!
As we venture into one of the most controversial periods of our lives with our country divided politically, the art market has taken a hit because of the overwhelming uncertainty and outcome. If one reads everything written about the current art market, it is unanimously agreed that gallery and auction house sales are down. VFA has not only continued to prosper but our acquisitions have grown by a third from this time last year purchasing 80 paintings in the first seven months of 2024. We have also recently purchased the estate of Alexander Liberman who was the first “Mad Man” and one of history’s greatest art directors and editors, heading up Conde Nast for 50 years and also being one of the most influential painters and sculptors coming out of the mid-twentieth century, truly a “Man for All Seasons.”
We continue to be driven by our curiosity and intuition regarding history, scholarship, knowledge and taste, which is reassured by our experience and foresight. We purchase important works of art daily and own everything we offer as we are passionate in what we believe in without the pretension that exists in the current art world.
In our catalogue you will see we have divided it into fifteen different categories: An overview of our diverse inventory, Alexander Liberman’s estate, Color Field, The Avery Family, the New York School, Jane Piper’s estate, Women artists, Abstract Expressionism, Jack Roth’s estate, Hard Edge, John Stephan’s estate, Black artists, John Little’s estate and Francois Aubrun’s estate. Our inventory historically reflects the importance of mid-century American art and its movements, showing the influence of each on the next generation.
Many of our artists and the estates we own have recently shocked the art world by setting unprecedented records....... such as Lynne Drexler, Vivian Springford along with the women from the Abstract Expressionist movement which we’ve championed for the past twenty years. We have recently purchased the estate of Jane Piper who was an important follower of Arthur Carles along with her colleague Mercedes Matter, Carles’s daughter. Her work is singular in style and an important woman artist we feel should be closely revisited. We are proud to have brought these artists to the forefront which has taken the art world decades to recognize......this points out that VFA’s insight and vision is historically revealing. It is always reassuring to know that we became the frontrunners for something we believed in that has taken years to finally be recognized by the inconsistent, perplexing and trendy art world. I suggest that everyone should take a closer look examining what we have been collecting as we exhaustively research the past and selectively pursue the artists we feel need reevaluating. The art market is an extremely difficult place to navigate, and we have proven that a seasoned, trustworthy advisor is of the utmost importance in assisting and guiding one through this wild west out of control art market.
VFA’s annual catalogue is our signature statement that no other gallery comes close to producing. It shows our vast inventories along with our taste and vision revealing itself. We will continue production of our short films regarding what we do, how we do it and will focus on the wonderful works of art we possess. Once again, our goal is to produce something uniquely our own showing how art has been part of our lifestyle over the past fifty years and how our taste is ever evolving as our curiosity continues to drive us to places unknown.
