Welcome Back Snowbirds! Property of:
A large majority of people in the United States will be feasting at the Thanksgiving table on November 25, shamelessly engorging themselves on roast turkey and myriad other tasty dishes. Canadians observed their Thanksgiving on October 11, and most were likely served some of the big birds as well. Turkeys are one of the most popular of the large fowl in America, but there are also other big birds worthy of note; some that are great eating, and others... not so much! • Wild turkeys are native to the Eastern United States and Northern Mexico. They were first domesticated by the Aztecs in Mexico. Related to pheasants, turkeys are the only breed of poultry native to the western hemisphere. Wild turkeys run up to 25 miles per hour and can fly short distances at speeds up to 55 miles mph.

• More than 1,500 years ago Native Americans domesticated and raised turkeys not only for food, but for their feathers. Feathers were highly valued for ceremonial garb and rituals and were used in insulating blankets and robes.
Survive the Holidays!
• Domestic turkeys that are raised for food, such as our traditional Thanksgiving meals, are too heavy to fly. These fattened birds are generally more ADVERTISING PROOF than twice the weight of wild turkeys.
