Welcome to An Evening of One Acts!

Isn’t it wonderful to spend an evening enjoying comical, relatable, and poignant stories? School Daze shares the tales of middle schoolers facing the excitement and terror of starting school. Their stories tell of the all-too-familiar challenges that all current or former adolescents can resonate with. A Recipe of Me tells of a family who bridges across generations using stories embedded in recipe cards.

Our lives are like storybooks; they have a beginning, a middle, and an end. They have chapters, like childhood, college, marriage, and grandparenthood. Life stories have cliffhangers, heartbreak, and surprise twists and turns. Lives feature heroes and antagonists, supporting characters, and lessons for us to learn. Some parts are poetic and lyrical, full of beauty and joy, while some pages are tear-stained. Our lives feature hope and redemption and inspire other life-books to be written. As believers, our books come with a prologue: “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth,” and an epilogue: “He will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself will be with them; he will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning nor crying nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.” Regardless of the previous chapters, believers know that when our final page is turned and our author calls us home, we get to enjoy eternity in paradise. What a worthwhile ending!

As you enjoy tonight’s show, I pray that you open your heart to the beauty of stories and reflect upon your own. Look at how far you’ve come, all the character development you’ve made. You are a classic, a masterpiece, and if you ever want to get to know your author please know that he is eager and patiently waiting for you with open arms!

“Therefore the Lord longs to be gracious to you, And therefore He waits on high to have compassion on you.

For the Lord is a God of justice; How blessed are all those who long for Him.” Isaiah 30:18
