A personal Note:

It is funny… when I was a student here at Valley, I wanted to bring dance to the school so we could reclaim the Art of Dance for Christ. After high school, college, and several career opportunities, I started choreographing the musicals here at Valley. It was during one of those rehearsals on the Branham campus that Dr. Daugherty walked in and saw me teaching his students. After lengthy discussions and creating a long-term plan, the Valley Christian Dance Arts program began in the fall of 1997. Happy 25th!

Coming back this year has been quite an enormous blessing! It has been my joy and privilege to work in a dance department that focuses on high-quality dance education, a family environment that builds each other up in positive ways, and is pioneered by a group of dedicated dance artists who nurture the love of Christ in their dancers. As our Dance Department celebrates 25 years, I could not be more proud of the direction it is going! I would like to thank Michelle McLaughlin, Colette Evans, Nigel Shum, and all the Dance Faculty for welcoming me and making me feel right at home!

The Best of Broadway:

Aaahhhh, Broadway… Many of us have fond memories of going to see a Broadway show and having those songs stuck in our heads for weeks. Those memories make us laugh, cry, and feel the range of emotions that a good story can help us explore. When we start to tell our stories to each other, we tend to discover that we are more alike than we realize. Each one of us will have ups, downs, and joys in life; that is what binds us together. We hope our DanceScapes Show will remind people that life is short, and we need to live it. We hope this show inspires you to continue watching Broadway shows both in New York and here locally.

Special Thanks:

• I would like to take this moment to thank the tremendous faculty and staff of the VCS Dance Arts Department.

• The cast for their hard work and the blessings they bring to this community.

• The amazing technical crew who works tirelessly to put it all together!

• The families who support our dancers and our department!

To the dancers, it has been a privilege to work with you this year! You have grown physically, emotionally, and spiritually. You should be very proud of your hard work! I hope that each time you reflect on your dance journey, that you remember to put God at the center of that journey, that nothing is impossible or unattainable through hard work and dedication, and life is full of lessons for each of us… and we can take those and turn them into great art. Please, stay focused on God, and keep dancing!

The Dance Arts Department hopes that you remember to love your family well, that you seize every day, and that you find hope in Jesus Christ to carry you through all of life’s challenges.

God’s Best to You, Kimberleigh
