CONCERT Welcome to Valley Christian High School’s Conservatory of the Arts very first #conservatoryquarantine Living Room Concert. We are excited to come together as a community, albeit virtually, to share in the incredible gifts of our conservatory students. We are especially grateful to our amazing seniors, the Class of 2020, for investing their time and talent these past four years, to help make Valley Christian the truly special place that it is. The past eleven weeks have been an emotional roller coaster for all of us, as we have been forced to adapt to prolonged separation from acquaintances, family, and friends. We watch and listen to the news, hoping to see the end in sight, only to be reminded of the pain and suffering the COVID-19 virus has thrust upon us and the entire world. In the midst of all of this, we find ourselves isolated, dealing with our own issues of anxiety, loneliness, depression, and even guilt. Guilt that we can be so self-centered in a time of tremendous loss and suffering, feeling sorry for ourselves over what most would consider trivial emotions when put in context with the tragic life and death situations happening literally all around us. And yet, no matter how big or small our own personal issues may seem, they are all very real. I want to impress upon you that it is ok, and even healthy, to acknowledge your feelings of sadness, loneliness, and insecurity in these trying times. It is, however, equally important that you do not allow yourself to live in the darkness that accompanies these feelings of loneliness, grief, and guilt. That is not the life that God, our Creator, has intended for us. My hope and prayer is that through events like tonight’s concert, we can catch a glimpse of HOPE in the midst of all this chaos. Because HOPE remains present. JOY remains present. There is a light at the end of this tunnel. And it is through music and dance and art that we can find the almighty power of God within us to grab onto that HOPE and not let it go.
I pray that you enjoy tonight’s performances. Thank you to the performers and instructors who have put the hours in to make tonight happen. It is a testament to the tenacity of the human spirit. We will get through this. Together. We will discover new ways, and rediscover old ways, to connect. Connect to ourselves, to each other, to our Creator, in new and more meaningful ways. I leave you with this encouragement from the Apostle Paul in his epistle to Christians residing in Rome: “I pray that God, the source of hope, will fill you completely with joy and peace because you trust in him. Then you will overflow with confident hope through the power of the Holy Spirit.” (Romans 15:13, New Living Translation)
