ELEMENTARY LIBRARY

BACKGROUND

The Valley Christian Elementary Library contains print and digital materials for students, teachers, and parents. It is a place where all are welcome and there is something fun for everyone!

All students visit the Library as an enrichment class on a biweekly schedule. During this time they have a librarian-directed lesson with follow up activities and time to take AR tests, check out materials, and read. Books are checked out for a twoweek period and may be renewed.

The Library is open after school to VCS students accompanied by their parents to complete homework, take AR tests, check out books, read, and socialize.

ELEMENTARY COLLECTION

The Elementary collection is robust, including fiction and nonfiction titles for children of all ages. Books are labeled with AR (Accelerated Reader) reading levels for ease of use with classroom reading programs. Some special sections include alphabet books, board books, folk and fairy tales, and graphic novels. With more than 19,000 titles every student can find something to read that they will love.

ADDITIONAL RESOURCES

We also maintain a special parent/teacher collection of books and media resources that is available for checkout.

Teachers and parents may request specific materials for class use, special projects, and home use for longer periods of time by visiting after school or emailing Jana Steeves at jsteeves@vcs.net.

SPECIAL LIBRARY EVENTS

Many special events occur throughout the school year including book fairs, Free Book Fridays, MakerSpace, contests, author visits, service projects, and special events.

Watch the Chimes for specific dates and deadlines!
