WALK

WARRIORS ADVANCING THE LORD’S KINGDOM

In addition to providing award-winning academics, arts, and athletics programs, Valley Christian High School (VCHS) offers students the opportunity to demonstrate God’s love through the program, “Warriors Advancing the Lord’s Kingdom” (WALK). This program encourages students to serve, inspire, and motivate others, both locally and abroad. Through action and love, students seek to advance the Lord’s Kingdom with the redemptive power of the Gospel to transform our communities and the world. During freshman year, students meet with counselors to develop both academic and spiritual growth plans for the next four years. Counselors and Bible teachers meet with students annually to review their goals and to provide encouragement as they WALK through their four-year plans for spiritual growth and service. A sample plan might include the following:

ACT

WALK encourages students to take classroom biblical instruction and apply it in the local community. Through action, students use their time, talent, and treasure to embody the Christian spirit in on-campus and Bay Area-focused service projects. These investments lay the foundation for students to live lives of character, service, and influence.

Spiritual Emphasis Weeks

Biannual Spiritual Emphasis Weeks are designed to increase biblical knowledge and facilitate personal spiritual growth.

Community Service

VCHS connects students with outside communities to help foster transformative, Christ-modeled relationships. Through these relationships, students learn to care for and encourage others in hopes that they will develop a lifelong desire for service and a heart of compassion and love. We accomplish this goal through outreach classes, service clubs, and community service requirements. Here are a few of the places our students serve: Loaves and Fishes, San Jose Family Shelter, Second Harvest, City Team, Sacred Heart, and Beautiful Day.

Prayer Warriors

Our faculty and staff pray daily for each student. Students have a variety of avenues for individual spiritual development, including on-campus Bible study groups, the SERVE program, and the LEAD program. We also support additional student-led initiatives involving worship, prayer, and service on-campus.

JUNIOR UNIVERSITY & LIGHTHOUSE INITIATIVE VCHS students serve the community during the school day through the Junior University Program. Our students invest their time and knowledge by tutoring and developing relationships with students at local underserved public elementary schools. Since the program began, the API STAR results of Hellyer Elementary School have increased over 100 points. Not only do our students tutor these children during the school day, they also run two after-school programs, Kids Club and Lighthouse Initiative, which enhance the elementary schools’ academic, artistic, and athletic development.

A SCHOOL FOR NEW DELHI

Since 2016, our students have had the opportunity to travel to our partner school in India, Grace Public Schools. VCS learned of Grace Public Schools in 2006, and decided to join Pastor Abraham Philip’s mission to build a school in Delhi, comprised of informal settlements where three million people currently live. Today, VCS monetarily supports both of Grace Public Schools’ campuses and stays connected to the mission by sending VCS students, faculty, and staff to witness the work being done there.

SPLISH SPLASH!

The Splish Splash! program is a comprehensive learn-toswim program for children who would not otherwise be able to participate in swim lessons due to the high cost. Qualified VCHS students, alumni, and teachers volunteer their time to instruct this underserved community. Two-thirds of each day takes place in the swimming pool while the remainder of the day is devoted to prayer, Bible stories, and truths of the Christian faith.

LOVE ACT.LOVE.TRANSFORM.

The WALK program helps students move beyond the classroom and the local community by offering an immersive cultural experience. Students show the love of Jesus Christ by meeting the needs of hurting people and sharing with them the redemptive power of the Gospel.

THAILAND

Students work alongside Outpour Movement to empower the children and young adults of oppressed people groups who transcend the Thai and Burma border. Working with a creative arts center, our students offer the street kids of Burma a safe place to express themselves through art, music, dance, and more.

INDIA Students have the opportunity to see first-hand what God has done through VCS’ support of Grace Public Schools, and serve alongside NICM and their mission to meet the physical and spiritual needs of families who live there.

“And He said to them, ‘Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.’” Mark 16:15

MEXICO Located outside of Ensenada, students will engage and grow to love the children of the small rural community of Loma Bonita. In addition to a daily feeding program and vacation Bible school, we have long term projects that include education and medicine for the local community.

CHILE Students travel to Iloca Chile, where they will build houses for a community devastated by an earthquake and tsunami in 2010. Our teams have built 10 houses over the last 5 years. Students stay with host families and experience Chilean culture and food, making this trip a unique cultural immersion opportunity.

HAITI After natural disasters, political problems, and continued economic struggles, Haiti is diligently seeking to rebuild. Students will have the opportunity to tangibly help as they spend each day with the children of NewLife orphanage in the city of Port Au Prince. In addition to a daily feeding program, we are partnering long-term to help educate the children of the orphanage. Students will also have a chance to work with their large special needs population.

“He has shown you, O man, what is good; And what does the Lord require of you But to do justly, To love mercy, And to walk humbly with your God? Micah 6:8

TRANSFORM Through the WALK program, VCHS students transform their own lives, our community, and the world. As different challenges and situations arise, students experience personal victories, spiritual transformation, and softened hearts, not only within the people they help, but also in their own lives. This local and global perspective allows students to use their unique, God-given abilities and talents beyond the classroom to be the hands and feet of Christ as they seek to advance the Lord’s Kingdom.

Seeing God and experiencing Him through love and service has given me a new perspective of how great God’s Kingdom really is.” - VCHS Student
