Member Angel Scotch’s take on: Dia de los Muertos “This event was a wonderful opportunity to educate myself culturally. We helped set up one of the activities and then directed people around the area. Towards the end, I assisted in arts and crafts, making flowers which were to honor the dead. I saw an altar that was made to pay respects to the dead and our ancestors, which was interesting. It was quite a long event, but it was worth the time.”

Key Club Week Valley Key Club received a proclamation for Key Club Week that, through the Mayor of Las Vegas, encouraged citizens to participate in Key Club Week festivities!

Junior Representative Sage de la Garza’s take on: Key Club Week “I had the most amazing time during Key Club International Week 2014! On the first day, Show Your K in Every Way, I wore the 2014 Valley High School Key Club shirt all day long as well as all of my club spirit gear such as crown, ribbons and my RTC name tag. When I returned to school later that week, I went around my school posting flyers and talking to teens about why students should join Key Club. Kudos to the Key Players day was one of my favorite days of the week. I say that because I loved personally saying "thank you" to all teachers, students, club members, board officers, advisers, parents and chaperons who have helped make this Key Club year a success so far. For Connect the Ks day, I made sure to talk to Key Clubbers from other schools in Las Vegas in order to get to know them and spread the Key Club spirit. For Bring a Friend to Key Club day and Your Way day, I made sure to advertise all club events that were coming up on social media as well as telling all key clubbers to invite their friends to club meetings to check it out. I hope everyone had a wonderful Key Club Week!

Fall Rally S

Vice President of Fundraising Sofia Yahya’s

take on: Fall Rally South 2014 “Fall Rally South was a wonderful experience. Valley Key Club represented Division 28 South with pride and spirit. It was great to see how successful we were as the CNH District in raising so much money for PTP. I loved spending time with my division and club at Fall Rally South. I can’t wait until next year!”

South 2014 Vice President of Service Marie Hashitani’s take on: Fall Rally South 2014 “Fall Rally was such a fabulous experience to share with our

club and division. While fundraising for PTP, we were able to have a wonderful time saving the lives of children. The spirit and seeing some of the other divisions in our district truly inspired my spirit to serve our community even more. FRS was a full day of wonderful memories and people, and it was truly a great trip.”

Member Karina Solorzano’s take on: The Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon “The Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon was an astonishingly awesome experience. I’ve never been to a marathon before. Volunteering in one was by far one of the best experiences as a volunteer. I had so much fun setting up for it, communicating with other people, and congratulating the runners as they finished their run. I look forward to more volunteer events such as this one.”

Featured Article Hello fellow Key Clubbers, I feel good! Oh I feel so good! Oh! I feel fine! All of the time! This is Ismael Olivero-Jimenez, one of your IB Freshman members of Valley Key Club. I am not here to ask a question, nor state a concern, but to share why Key Club is very dear to me and plenty of our school’s

students. First, some of us can agree that we can get community service hours done in this club. There is a hard time trying to flee your comfort zone and put yourself out there for volunteer work, but with Key Club, you have role models to help you serve your community in a way you won’t regret. (But remember, it’s not only about the hours, it’s about how you build your home, school, and community). In this club, we have a board, and the officials that inhabit it show how to become leaders, not followers, how to become shepherds, not sheep, and they shape you into a panda from a cub. This may all sound a little weird, but what we do in this club is not what you expect from a

regular club. We don’t sit and do the task at hand, we socialize and learn from each other through purity, unwavering character, and service. I was nervous at first, but now that I have met people that I can relate to, it is like my second home, and they are like my second family. At a recent event, the Walk to End Alzheimer’s, I told one of our members, “There is no greater honor than to cheer with your Key Clubbers.” We all have fun, and we show the public that we can unite as one. Valley High School’s Key Club, they are my family, I’ll hold them down forever. Us against the world, we can battle whoever. There’s no way our spirit can be concealed, you know that we’ll defend one another, just like a Viking shield. There’s nothing that can come between me and my Key Clubbers, we’re all around if it’s going down. Just us, one for all and all for one yeah you hear them right, we do our service then the public see our shining light. Coming up together so we’re all down for the fight, there’s nothing wrong with that, family, there’s nothing strong as that. All for one and one for all: We fight together, we ride together, and we can bear any weather. Knock-Knock, you’re about to get Viking shocked. Thank you for reading, Ismael Olivero-Jimenez

Note from the Editor

Hello, Reader! This month has been so eye-opening and inspirational for me. I’ve felt so overwhelmed with pride in my club almost every day this month. Even after events such as RTC and Fall Rally South, members have continued to show their love for service and

have expressed it in so many ways. That reason in itself is why my club is so inspiring to me. Their genuine love and passion for service makes me honored to serve them. During service events, I sometimes take a step back and watch as my club members take initiative to impact their community. Without complaint, they spend their free days taking a stand to better the lives around them and to better the areas in which they live. Because of these members and because of the

opportunities that I have to serve them, I have grown so much as a person and my outlook on life has changed for the better. It’s completely rewarding to serve such a dedicated club, and I’m continually thankful for them.

In the spirit of service,

Alissa Dumo
