Susan G. Komen's Race for the Cure was an amazing and productive service event in Downtown Las Vegas. There, we handled the barricades and helped out in the food court area as well. Also, the event was truly inspirational as we listened to many breast cancer survivors' stories. Can't wait until next year's Race for the Cure!

60th Anniversary PurpleStride 5k Weekend

Members work the "Avalanche" station. Volunteers are given aprons and badges.

EVANDER BOCALBOS On Saturday, May 16th, I went to opportunity village's 60th anniversary. I was stationed on a huge slide called "The Avalanche," and what my part consisted of was grabbing sliders and placing them on the slide for kids to slide on. Then, I had to push them down the slide. The look on their faces was of full joy and fun. Many kept coming back to this same ride. Later in the day, I was station on a go kart arena. What kids did there was go around a little air blown track and do 10 laps in total. Though, kids kept crashing together or to my ankles. In all, the event was really fun, and I wish to come to another event like this!

MARY SARPONG At the Ohana festival we helped out with the crafts ands other things. First, I was pleased with the bands. Fallyn and I were suppose to call the stage manger when the acts come. No acts came. So we ended up siting down for 3 hours. We took a 20 mins break. They provided us with food and water. After the break  Fallyn and I were placed in arts and crafts. We helped little children makes frames out of sticks and color them. As the event started to die down we decided to go see the butterfly garden. It was so beautiful and it smelled so wonderful. All in all it was the best event this year. It don't even fell like I was volunteering because I was having so much fun. Hopeful we can do this next year!

COMMUNITY

Festival VICTORIA PATTERSON "I went to the Ohana Festival my freshman year as well for community service, and it was by far my absolute favorite community service event I had ever been to, so I thought it would be a great idea to attend as a volunteer again this year. I volunteered with Valley Key Club, and working with them was an amazing experience. As it was freshman year, the Ohana Festival was easily my favorite event of this school year also. I arrived at 8:30 to the event, and I signed the sign-in sheet and grabbed a badge and put my name on it. After that, the other volunteers and I were given instructions of the dierent stations of activities. I was put in an arts and crafts job where I helped create Hawaiian leis that the guests could make and wear. When the volunteers and I arrived at this station, we practiced making our own lei so we would know how to create it. One of the highlights of my day was in the very beginning event, and while I was making my lei, two people in big, mascot costumes came out as Lilo and Stitch. Of course I had to take a picture with them! After that, people slowly started to arrive to the event, and eventually a lot of people showed up to the station. For about the majority of the time I was at the event, I was sitting at this station volunteering. I helped a little girl name Aubrey, who had a pink stripe in her hair, was wearing a blue dress, and was in the second grade. She was very nice and social, and you could tell that she loved to learn. I also helped a dad make an all blue lei for his two year old son. I also helped a very shy little girl make her lei, and even though her lei was not looking very nice, around a few times picking up the flowers and the straws and other trash. I still let her do whatever she wanted with HER lei.

I helped a lot of other people and kids and parents filed in the area. It was also sort of windy outside, so I went Another highlight of the event was when my friends Cassandra, Jose, and I took a few minutes to check out the butterfly exhibit. It was extremely cool getting to see the butterflies and learning a bit about them. After that, I went to a new station where I helped people create a picture frame out of popsicle sticks and small decorations such as stickers. At this station, a lot of people made whatever the wanted, so I kind of wen with the flow and helped them with any project their heart desired to do. Lastly, I worked at the carnival station, and it was a mess! It was a bowling game but the ball was deflated, the kids would not stand it a straight and orderly line, and worst of all the volunteer who was supposed to help me at that station was just standing there talking to her friend. When that happened, I texted my friend Jose to come help me, BECAUSE I WAS DYING! Thankfully my friend was able to help me blow back up the bowling ball, and he helped settle down the kids. For some reason, the kids just loved listening to him...just not me. Kids hate me. I usually like to get stu done on my own, but his just proves that teamwork can conquer any obstacle that must be faced. As the day came to a close, we picked up the carnival station, picked up some trash, signed out, and then went home. This was a really fun service event, and what I liked most about it was how it really grasped the idea of family. It was not an event where it was just about the kids or it was just about the adults, families came together to celebrate an amazing culture together, and I felt inspired and happy to have been a part of an amazing event.

WEEK MAY 4TH - MAY 8TH

OFFICER TRAINING MARIE HASHITANI Officer Training Conference 2015 was an incredibly informative and useful event that our officers of Valley Key Club were able to attend. In this wonderful morning, we learned about what it really means to be dedicated to our organization, our schools and community, and most importantly, our members. While it was a great experience professionally, it was also a wonderful time to see other officers. We all had the Key Club spirit and the passion to lead our clubs. In the Presidents’ Workshop, I was able to meet and talk to all of the wonderful presidents of Division. As leaders of our home club, we helped each other learn and brainstorm different ways to become better at our positions. I truly valued this time to understand my role as a club president and find ways to give back to our community. Being with motivated officers inspired me for the future of our term, club, and membership.

Officers learn a lot and bond with D28 at OTC.

CONFERENCE

HADLEY MITCHELL Officer Training Conference was a rewarding experince that I was fortunate enough to atend. All of the Valley Key Club Administration was able to attend and gain the informaion and resources that are necessary for or offices. I am looking forward to implement our experince from OTC within our club. As I am the Treasurer of Valley Key Club, I obviously attended the Treasurers' Workshop. During this presentation the treasurers were briefed upon basic procedures when managing the club's budget and funds. On top of that, the treasures shared their the past fundrishing experiences and exchanged ideas that I plan on implementing within my term. OTC inspired me to become a better officer. I am grateful for this opportunity and am glad of all the friends I made, too!
