President Alonso Lopez: Our Key Club core values play a huge role in making our club be the best it can be. The leadership core value will be incorporated next year in our club through the creation of committee chairs for different events and fundraisers, giving members a chance to become leaders and have an influence in our club. Character building will be instilled into members through icebreakers and through their wanting to help out the community. Committee chairs and allowing members to go to board meetings will allow them to be more involved in decisions about the club. Providing many service events to help out the community will allow members to gain the core value of caring for the community.

Vice President B Cristian Giron:

For the upcoming year we will all become leaders by participating in communal activities. We are all very different when it comes to leading. We will build character within our club via icebreakers and by emphasizing inter-club relations as well as club-to-club relations. Caring and inclusiveness are two core values that go hand in hand. By being accepting, willing, and open-minded we show our crave to work together united against one cause! And fighting against something for our community or world shows that we care. When working together in a team, inclusiveness is bound to occur. By leading by example and showing that exclusiveness is not the most effective method we are certain others will be eager to include everyone. So remember and never forget: Key Club, leadership, character building, caring and inclusiveness.

Secretary Lindy Do:

I will enforce the Key Club core values of inclusiveness by consistently updating all members and giving them information about events as best as I can. I will try to help them answer all questions they have and keep our club organized so that everyone knows what is going on at all times. In addition, I will also encourage all members to participate in a typical Key Club meeting by teaching them cheers and making sure they are not left out. By doing service events and having socials with the members, it would help members feel greatly included as well as help them grow as a person. Interacting with the members and keeping them updated about the things that the board does in Key Club would allow the board to bond with the members greatly. So this following Key Club year, I would like to involve more participation among the members and create greater bonds with the members by consistently interacting with the members.

Treasurer Joe Aquino:

For the upcoming school year, I will enforce the Key Club core values through understanding and encouragement. A Key Club member’s knowledge of these values allows them to bear aware of what to follow. If majority of the club’s member’s know what these core beliefs are, surely they will follow them. Encouragement is a very productive and positive way to enforce these core values. Guiding members with positive attitudes and reassuring them during productive actions not only stimulates a better environment for the club but is a nicer way to enforce values. Another way I will enforce Key Club core values is by promoting our core values to our members. Showcasing exemplary members who have shown how seriously they take these core values could inspire other members. For example, I could have a member who shows great leadership or is really caring and have them share how they’ve done it.

SPOTLIGHT Inclusiveness

Inclusiveness is important at Valley Key Club.

“The family is inclusive of not just your genetic family, but the people that you meet along the way.

-Jane Seymour

Inclusiveness is extremely important at Valley Key Club. What fascinates me about inclusiveness in our club, is that it has been in spirit for the past couple of years. It has been in spirit through the many advisors, presidents, members, and changes. Inclusiveness, being one of the four core values of Key Club International is often over looked. We do not realize inclusivity around us, we take part of it. But, from time to time, we can stop and take a step back, and watch how key club members are extremely inclusive with one another. Inclusiveness is one of the main things that are highlighted in our club, and I believe that it will be highlighted and in the spirit of service for years to come.

Mikaela Go answered with, “Wibbly, wobbly, timeywimey… does that count?”

Carolina Navarro answered with, “Adventurous, relaxing, and swimmingly!”

Jennifer Nguyen answered with, “Memorable, adventurous, life-changing.”

Jerico Ragat answered with, “Inclusiveness is important because it is. It's important so no one feels left out.”

Mikaela Go answered with, “Inclusiveness is important because we need to know every little bitty detail of the story. It always helps from lab write ups to murder cases. To leave out inclusiveness, is to leave out clues or evidence that can support your theory!”

Carolina Navarro answered with,

“Inclusiveness is turning to the fellow key clubber next to you and having no problem starting a conversation with a smile. It’s what you feel when you understand the inside club jokes. It's cheering your heart out until your throat is sore at events. That is what inclusiveness means to me.” Karl Catarata answered with, “Inclusiveness is Key Club. Without it, we are not the same. We would be distant, and unwelcoming. With it, we are what we are. That’s why inclusiveness is so important.”

SPOTLIGHT Service Events

Fun in the Sun with division 28 south pandas.

On July 12th, the Valley Key Club board headed to Sunset Park to participate in the July Service Event, hosted by the Division board. At the event, we were able to have lots of fun by making cards for cancer patients, conversing with other key club members, and also socializing with the division board. Upon arriving, we were greeted by our awesome LtG., RJ Immerman. We were then seated quickly to participate in making cards for cancer patients. Through the event, I was able to catch up on what my fellow board members were up to, and hear about new details going on within our club. -Technology Editor, Karl Catarata
