we radiate inspiration.
Valpo’s music education program empowers you to grow as a professional and inspire the next generation of musicians.
Valpo’s bachelor of music education (BME) program is designed to provide you with the skills needed to make a profound impact as a future educator. This comprehensive program equips you for a wide range of teaching opportunities, preparing you for licensure across all grades (P-12) in general, vocal, and instrumental music. From your first year, you’ll engage in classroom observation, building the leadership skills essential for directing school music programs. The curriculum follows a robust four-year pathway, culminating in a student teaching experience during your senior year.
Our BME program emphasizes evidence-based practice and hands-on teaching experience while also nurturing your growth as a performer. You’ll have opportunities to shine in recognized ensembles and as soloists. With Valparaiso University’s accreditation from the National Association of Schools of Music and a 100% outcome rate for music education graduates, this program stands out for its excellence. Our alumni teach in schools across more than 20 states and internationally, while others pursue advanced studies at top institutions like Boston University, Northwestern University, and the University of Notre Dame.

Be a Beacon
“One of the great things about Valpo’s music education program is you’re getting the best of both worlds all packed in one major. With the small class sizes, you’re able to have more interactions with your professors and form connections with them while they develop you to be the best musician you can be. Not only that, but the education department is also very inclusive and involved in the process of ensuring that you are ready and prepared for becoming the best and most effective educator you can be.”
