”Valpo truly has incredible faculty with dedication and expertise. They have shaped my journey of not just academic growth, but personal development as well. One example is when I first heard about the Lutheran College Washington Semester program from two of my professors. They mentioned I would be able to get a federal government position and a great professional network doing this program. They were right! I get to do hands-on work within the [United States Marshals Service] complex assets unit and I’m just so grateful that I’ve been able to have this experience. I’ve built such a great professional network and have gotten to immerse myself in the professional environments that I want to be in long-term.”

”At Valpo, you get to do the coolest stuff in the least amount of time and there’s a great pipeline of Valpo grads in meteorology. It’s amazing how connected we all are. I got my job because I reached out to an alum through our department’s contact list and I even had a 45-minute conversation with John Gumm [’97], a chief meteorologist in Cincinnati — also a Valpo grad — who didn’t hire me but took the time to give me advice. That kind of support is priceless.”

EMMETT TWOMEY ’23

Major: Meteorology

“During my four years at Valpo, I spent a semester abroad in Costa Rica, presented at an Indiana State Legislature subcommittee meeting, and participated in a semesterlong internship program in Washington, D.C. I am grateful to the professors and advisors at Valpo who encouraged me to engage in these experiential learning opportunities, which boosted my confidence and helped me build an impressive resume before even graduating. The welcoming alumni community in D.C. also influenced my decision to start my career here. Ultimately, these experiences led to my first postgrad job as a research associate at EAB in Washington, D.C.

LILY CARMEL ’23
