INSPIRING COLOURS
Life has all shades of emotions. This picture shows two strong colours covering the frame. Red and Black. Red is the colour of passion and love, whereas Black is often associated with evil. It symbolises darkness and negativity. So, this moment actually was caught when I was thinking where we see darkness and negativity in our life, there on the other side life has also blessed us with love..
RIGHTEOUS BROTHERS
Three brothers smiling in one frame makes the picture perfect. The eldest brother is a step brother of the younger ones. Their father has married twice and both their mothers stay together.
SUNSET AT CHATLA
A natural lake formed during the rainy season is actually a paddy field. A memorable sunset captured while a photographic tour with his friends.

How have you progressed over the years? Haven’t been doing it for very long, but I think I’ve progressed a lot. I work hard on the little details in my photos, I try to get the lighting right as best I can with what I have and I’ll never be able to learn enough to satisfy myself. Every day I push myself to click better pictures. For me better means to get the results which I want to be. Is being a photographer your dream job? Sort of, I have my own freelance photography deals on the side. I would never want to make photography my main job because I think I will loose that passion and essence of it which I have for it right now. What photography do you thing to shoot)? How do you think that you can improve? If you ask for thumb rule then, “The More You Click, More You’ll Improve”. Rest, I think widening your imagination is a key to improve your photography.
Do you think you’ll be doing photography for the rest of your working life (if applicable)? I’m sure I’ll be taking photos till the time I can. I enjoy clicking it’s a hobby and hobby never leaves you. What do you find is the easiest? The easiest thing about photography in general is finding something to shoot. I’m always surrounded by pretty things. How to become a Photographer? When people ask me how they can become a photographer, I almost never mention cameras, lenses, or technique. I say, ‘If you want to be a photographer, first leave home.’ “Go as far as you can. Become a stranger in a strange land. Acquire humility. Leaving home really means that the photographer has to wander, observe, and to paraphrase. That is what I try to achieve in my pictures. The more you will give time to yourself and your passion, the better you will click. What inspires you? What inspires me? Beauty... Beauty of nature, beauty of God’s creation. How world is full of things and people which deserves to be clicked and mesmerized. You’re never sure of the moment because you’re always looking and anticipating. You’re never quite sure when the moment is right, because it can either peak or evaporate. “Be Ready With Your Camera”
What makes the good picture stand out from the average? If we look at the photographers whose work we admire, we see that they’ve found a particular place, theme, or subject, dug deep into it, and carved out something that’s become special. That takes a lot of time and a lot of work; it’s not for everyone. A great photograph really needs to say something about a person or give some insight into their life or how their life is different than yours and mine. A good picture makes us curious and makes us want to know more. How important is it for a photographer to “connect” with his subjects to bring out their true self? The most important part about photographing a person is winning their trust and confidence. Being able to come up or down to one’s level to ensure a strong communication is what it takes to honestly connect with a person. Even with subjects other than people, a photographer needs to understand what he will going to click. Imagination of subject in the best composition is very important.

When you go one of your travels? What all you take with you? Why? I definitely make sure I carry my camera with me. If it’s a scenic place then I need a wide angle and my 50mm is always with me. I need my camera because I love capturing different places and the memories they hold. Some exotic locations are so beautiful that reliving them through pictures is absolutely worth it.
Among the gadgets that you own, is there something that you wish you hadn’t bought? Why?
Well, as an amatuer I did purchase a few lenses like 18 – 135 and 70 – 300 which now is of no use and I wished I had saved up for better lenses.
What kind of tools do you use for post processing? Explain your work flow.
Well I use Photoshop Cs6. My post processing depends on the type of picture. Some shots don’t need post at all, but some shots like close ups – or fashion shots require re-touching, but other than that I like some of my pictures to have an artsy feel to it. So I think about the type of picture I would like to show and then seach for a varitey of textures, or png’s or bruches or anything to make my picture look a little different.
How do you educate yourself to take better pictures? Well at the moment I study photography, and thus it helps me a lot. But otherwise I look at other peoples work and try to strive to that level. Inspiration always helps!

Whose work has influenced you most?
Personally I love david la chappelle. His work is a mix of fashion, art, technique and pure genius. Love his concepts as well and his thought process but his skill is also remarkable and somethng that I reallt wish to achieve!
What inspires you?
Art is what inspires me. New concepts, new ideas, I love exploring and experimenting with creativity and artists and general art as well really inspires me~
How do you feel when taking an amazing photos?
Sometimes while doing a shoot or just clicking pictures you just know its going to turn out amazing and that feeling is just so fullfilling and content. Even after a tiring shoot I, if I think Ive taken some good shots then I cannot sleep without reviewing them or doing some post procsseing.
Any advise for aspiring photographers?
Well I would just say getting fancy equipment is not important as I constantly keep seeing people buy equipment first, but it’s important that the photographer can be able to master good pictures with any type of equipment.

Tell us a little about yourself.
I am Anita . Finished my engineering a year back , right now battling everyone to get into some professional photography course to learn more and pursue my photography journey.
How did the passion you have for photography develop?
First , it was from the instant polaroid camera that pulled me towards photography. It is always nice to have something which reminds us of a good memory. So that’s how it developed , from clicking and pasting the memories in a scrapbook.
Other Than Photography what do you do actually?
Done with my engineering. Focusing on how develop my photography.
Photography is about creating, exploring and trying to develop skin and attain a sense of style for your images. What is it about photography that you enjoy most and how do you think you will further your career over the next few years? The best thing I enjoy about photography is looking at the image right after clicking and compare it to the mentally captured image before the click. Sometimes it Is nothing like what we have imagined and yet at times it’s beautiful beyond imagination.
If you could describe your photography in under a sentence, what would it say? It’s my own personal visual statement.
Finally, any advice for aspiring photographers?
Let your works be original , cause originality matters most. And love what you do.

Since I was a kid my life has been all about being the best. Oh yes, I belong to a family of meritorious students. Everyone expected me to carry the legacy of excellent academics but my heart was indulged in capturing the beauty the world holds. My journey into the world of photography started when I was assisting and motivating a friend who aspires to be a photographer. Working with her developed a hidden passion which came in light when i took camera in my hands. In those days I didn’t even own a camera, not even a point and shoot. I use to borrow camera and click photos. Firstly my reach was till self-portraits but gradually I expanded to different things in photography. I started searching for articles about every rule, every theory and lights and when it came to post processing, thanks to YouTube tutorials that am alive. So, this is how I know everything that I know I don’t have a degree I just have crazy passion towards what I like. There have been points where some have suggested keeping it as a hobby but a passion that loud can’t be locked up in cupboard for long time. I never knew I can be someone I never knew I can make a picture, a picture with its own concept and its own meaning. A picture made perfectly gives unexpressed happiness. So every morning whenever I wake up, I smile because I know my doing what I love. I’m following my passion and so should you… - Anjlika Singh

SIKKIM

A TRIP TO SIKKIM WITH SEHAR PURI Hi Sehar. Can you tell us something about your Photography? I second the belief that Photos tell Stories. So my Photography is always oriented to achieve the same. Especially because my favourite bit is discovering a new place, Travel Photography, it is. It includes people, places, culture and lots more. In a nutshell, anything and everything! So we heard about your recent trip to Sikkim. Can you briefly describe? After having visited Bermiok last time, I decided to head to a small albeit beautiful village situated in West Sikkim called Okhrey and the Varsey Rhododendron Sanctuary this time. The 2,500 km adventure trek from Okhrey upto Varsey gave me ample opportunities to capture some particularly beautiful landscapes. Definition of perfection. So what exactly do you keep in mind while clicking your images? Story-telling; The photos should tell you stories of any size or kind. And while I’m at it, I try and take the simplest of things and try and make them look completely different. It’s maximum fun with the most unattractive of things. Like a spider’s cobwebs if shot correctly, gives an old and eerie feel. Basically, always remember to experiment.
What kind of gear do you use for the outdoor photo-shoots? So one of my favourite quotes is, ‘Buying a Nikon doesn’t make you a Photographer, it just makes you a Nikon owner.’ And it’s because of this that I decided my fundamentals have to be strong before I get my hands on my DSLR! So I started with a regular Sony Digital Camera to give myself time to figure things out, so a few of my outdoor shoots have been taken with that. I then progressed to the Nikon P90 and thus did my next set of shoots. I’m using a Canon 550D now so I use that for almost all my shoots now! What I am eager to use now is my Sigma FG. You’re getting viral day by day on the internet. Can you tell something about your audience. Most of my audience are 18-24 year olds. But here’s what’s really cool… While maximum of my audience is Indian, I have people from UK, USA, Libya, Dubai, Singapore, Austria, Italy, France, Pakistan, Germany, Egypt, Romania, Turkey, Poland, Belgium, Iraq, Croatia, Mexico, Argentina etc! Basically, you name it. How can you not love FaceBook. It honestly does connect the World. Finally. Any advice for aspiring photographers? Learn your craft well, keep experimenting and once you find what makes your Photography unique, knock yourself out.

FESTIVAL OF COLOURS by
SAMUEL RASOORI
Edited : Aditi Singh Photographer : Samuel Rasoori
K I www.thekalakaaris.com I 87
Holi, “The festival of colours” dates back to ancient times. This festival is celebrated to spread the power of Joy and Love. It’s extremely famous among Young Kids and Newly Wed couples.
It is one of the most boisterous of Hindu festivals, Holi waves goodbye to winter and welcomes in spring in a rainbow of colours. Hindu Festival Does not mean it is Celebrated only By Hindus. It’s one of the most exciting community festivals, where the whole society rejoices in the shower of colours.
In India it’s predominantly celebrated in the north of the country, and is quite rightly known as the Festival of Colours for the raucous events on Holi’s final day, when children and adults take to the streets throwing colourful Gulal (Powder) over each other. Dyed water is shot from syringes, thrown from buckets and poured into balloons, which are then tossed at people. Whoever the Person maybe, On Holi There’s no pardoning anyone.
The festival of Holi runs back deep into roots of History. It’s about the Story of Prahlad who Loved the divine more than anything but, That was not a good deal as he was the son of Hiranyakashyap, The master of the demons. His father tries poisoning him. But in vain, as The poison turns into nectar being put into Prahlad’s Mouth. Holi, though it runs for three
days, Holi is mostly condensed into this final mad day. The night before, huge bonfires are lit at major crossroads in towns and cities and effigies of the demon Holika are burned to symbolise the triumph of good over evil. Whether you think good or evil comes up trumps the next day might depend just how much Gulal ends up being thrown your way.
