MAN OF GOD • DEVOTED HUSBAND • DEDICATED FATHER AND GRANDFATHER LOYAL BROTHER • SUPPORTIVE UNCLE • DEPENDABLE FRIEND
Mr. Virgil Hall, Jr. was born on January 5, 1951, to the late Virgil Hall, Sr. and Mattie Bell Vance Hall. With nine other siblings. Virgil was the one his parents kept a close eye on as he stayed under the weather and broke quite a few bones growing up. He loved playing baseball on Sunday afternoons with his family!
Virgil attended Shiloh M.B. Church in Courtland, MS and accepted Christ as his personal Savior at an early age. He started serving on the Usher Board and was later ordained as a Deacon under the leadership of Rev. Eugene Marzette. He served faithfully until his health would not permit. Virgil was also a member of Prince Hall Masonic Panola Lodge 6A.
As a young man growing up in the Concord Community, Virgil attended Paton Lane High School and graduated class of 1969. He pressed forward to better his education, attending Coahoma Junior College and Jackson State University where he obtained a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education. didn’t stop there but went on to secure his Masters in School Administration from the University of Mississippi in Oxford. while working as a Science Teacher at Green Hill
Elementary School in Sardis, Ms. Virgil taught for 20+ years before moving into the Assistant Principal position where he was a strong disciplinarian. “Mr. Hall” is what his students respectfully called him. He was small in stature but tough as nails, and they all knew he meant business.
Virgil was known in the community as Mr. Hall, Teddy, Uncle Teddy, Gig, Paw Paw Virgil, and Straw BOSS #1. He held his family close to his heart, was a strong provider, and a dependable friend. Virgil was a jack of all trades- mechanic, carpenter, basketball coach, and gardener. He grew some of the best greens, cucumbers, tomatoes, peas, watermelon, squash, and corn. He loved the outdoors, could repair and build just about anything.
In early 1977, Virgil was introduced to the love of his life! Six months later, on September 24th, he made Dora Mae Shaw his wife. This loving union produced two beautiful daughters, LaKeisha Virgnette and Kyra Keon. They were his pride and joy! He poured his heart and soul into them and likewise into his grandchildren - Jordyn, Alex, and Ellis. Virgil was stern but fair, tough yet gentle, a man of great integrity that made sure his family was well taken care of.
Virgil departed this life for his heavenly home on December 24th at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford, MS surrounded by family.
Awaiting his heavenly arrival was his loving wife, Dora Mae Hall; his parents, Virgil Hall, Sr. and Mattie Bell Vance Hall; five brothers, Earl Hall, Lonnie Hall, Johnnie Hall, Willie James Hall and Theaudry Hall; four sisters, Louise Lloyd, Mildred Johnson, Mattie Pearl Stamps and Vertis Eliza Byrd. As well as his paternal and maternal grandparents.
He leaves memories to be forever cherished by his loving and dedicated daughters, Lakeisha (Michael) Hall- King and Kyra (AL) Hall- Turner ; his grandchildren, Jordyn Alyse Turner , Alex Jay Turner, and Ellis Dean Turner; his niece-daughter , Brandis Shaw; his godchild, Freddrick Wright, Jr, his brothers in law, Carey Byrd and Curtis Shaw, his sisters in law, Vera Hall and Gwendolyn Shaw ; a host of family and friends.
Although my physical presence is gone, my consistent love for God and my family will live within each of you. Please hold my sweet wife’s favorite scripture in your heart …And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. ~Romans 8:28 KJV

The measure of a man is not determined
By his show of outward strength
Or the volume of his voice
Or the thunder of his actions
Or of his intellect or academic abilities
It is seen rather in terms of the love that he has for his family and for everyone
The strength of his commitments
The genuineness of his friendships
The sincerity of his purpose
The quiet courage of his convictions
The fun, laughter, joy and happiness he gives to his family and to others
His love of life
His patience and his honesty
And his contentment with what he has.
Love is a miraculous treasure. That comes from heaven above.
Love is fruit of the spirit! It’s what the heart is made up of!
Love is very patient. It will endure until the end. Love is always good and kind.
By sowing peace in the heart of men. Love rejoices in the truth, It never seeks its own. Love draws others towards it. It never walks alone! Love Meditates on lovely things. It offers joy and peace. Love rejoices in gentleness.
With patience that won’t cease. Love bears all things and believes all things. Hope all things and more…
Love helps those who are in need. It gives grace to the lost and the poor. When you walk in the spirit of love
And live in the spirit too... God’s “love fruits” from Heaven above. Will shower down blessings upon you!
A father’s love will always last, a bond that time cannot erase. His memories are locked within our hearts, and we see his love in every face. He taught us right from wrong, and how to be brave and strong. His words of wisdom we carry on, And with his love we’re never alone.
So let us celebrate his life, and all the love he gave, For he was more than just a dad, He was our hero to the grave.
Pawpaw was very stubborn and lived up to his nickname, Straw Boss #1. His personality never failed to make his family and friends laugh. With him, if you did something in a certain way that wasn't how he wanted, he would quickly tell you. He knew exactly what he wanted and how he wanted it. He was always true to himself, and I believe that's why he was so loved. Even though my Pawpaw is gone, he will never be forgotten.
I loved my Pawpaw, and it was hard seeing him in the hospital. I remember when he asked me and Ellis to help him with the new shed and got mad because we weren't laying the blocks down right. We laughed because we didn't know what was wrong with the blocks. They looked perfectly fine to us. Times like these are what I will remember. Pawpaw was kind but strict, and he definitely knew how to run things. Even through hard times, I stayed strong for him. I was the one he called on for help the most. There will always be difficult moments, but I choose to think about the good. Pawpaw, I will always Love You.
PawPaw was the strictest person you will ever meet. Even though he was hard on me, he was still the best PawPaw ever. Although I will miss him a lot, he will forever be in my heart.

Small in stature, big at heart. God knew exactly the person to bless my aunt with, because he was a stand in father for me on multiple occasions. God knew I would need to learn to drive on your lawn mower, he knew I would need escorts for my small town pageants, and he knew I would need the best dad on this side of heaven to look out for me, treat me like his own and never show any difference between me and my cousins Kyra and Keisha. I’m so blessed to have had that experience with you. The love you gave was unmatched,I am grateful to have gotten to stay with you and Aunt Dora .. I was quiet and so were you but I was glad to watch the game with you because even if no words were spoken I was happy to be there! You’ve poured your love into my child thank you for helping Aunt Dora watch her and also thinking of her as your grand! She is proud to call you paw paw! We will never forget you. I will forever remember the time you whooped me and Kyra with a cotton belt, Kyra didn’t cry but I did, and the only thing that was hurt was my feelings, because I never wanted you of all people to be disappointed with me. So proud to have been able to call you my daddy and have been able to experience you in this life!

Throughout my childhood, In moments big and small, You were always there, To catch me when I'd fall.
Your words were full of wisdom, Your voice a soothing guide. With gentle hands, you'd lift me up, And comfort me when I cried. Your love is unconditional, And never does it wane. In times of joy or sorrow, You ease away the strain.
My guiding light, my godfather, Through thick and through the thin. Your love has shaped me into The person I am within.
