For 2024, VCW returns from March 3 to 10, bringing back some of the events you already know and love, introducing some exciting brand-new ones and welcoming more national and international bartenders and brand ambassadors than ever before. “We are proud to promote and support our incredible cocktail community and culture here in Vancouver. VCW’s success is due to the collaboration between all of us in this industry—the bartenders, the venues, the brands and the consumers,” says The Alchemist publisher, VCW event producer and co-founder Gail Nugent. Vancouver has long punched above its weight when it comes to the art of creating and serving world-class cocktails, and no one knows that better than the team at The Alchemist, British Columbia’s first magazine dedicated to craft cocktail culture—and, as of this fall, now publishing in Ontario as well. We had long wanted to showcase all that talent through a cocktail event and were thrilled to launch Vancouver Cocktail Week in March 2022. Over five days and across multiple venues, the first VCW featured dozens of events including brunches, dinners, seminars, happy hours and a swellegant closing gala. Since then, VCW has expanded to eight days, and has added guest shifts, popups, neighbourhood cocktail crawls and even some drag cocktail parties. As has been VCW tradition since before there even was a VCW, in 2024 the week kicks off with the Signature Sunday Cocktail Brunch at Botanist, with VANCOUVER COCKTAIL WEEK 2023
Chef Hector Laguna pairing his fine fare with cocktails created by some of the city’s top bartenders. And in another proud VCW tradition, the week wraps up with a glamorous closing gala that is a must on everyone’s social calendar. This year, the Green Garden Gala will be held at the Sutton Place Hotel, where the ballroom will transform into a bower of botanical inspiration as bartenders craft unique cocktails just for you. The event begins with a VIP hour with passed canapés and cocktails, and then the doors open onto the party of the year, with gourmet food to graze on, a DJ and live music to dance to, and sips from more than 35 premium spirits brands to savour. All your favourite bartenders will be there. And don’t forget to cast your bids in the silent auction supporting the BC Hospitality Foundation’s scholarship program. The week will also feature extraordinary cocktail-paired dinners, master classes, seminars, special events galore and, of course, our series of unticketed “cinq à sept” happy hours at select venues throughout the city. And be sure to check out the guest shifts and pop-ups featuring international bar stars like Jesse Vida of Singapore’s Cat Bite Club (formerly of Atlas and NYC’s The Dead Rabbit) and World’s 50 Best Bars Industry Icon Award winner Renato (Tato) Giovonnani of Florería Atléntico in Buenos Aires, currently No. 30 on the list. Working with over 45 brand sponsors, The Alchemist invites everyone to celebrate the artistry and hospitality of the cocktail community, and to support the BC Hospitality Foundation, at Vancouver Cocktail Week 2024.
