MATTER HERE | VIU.CA

Hay Ch Qa’ Sii’em Siye’yu Mukw Mustimuxw In the Hu’qumi’num language of our region’s First Nations people, this means, “thank you respected ones of this place.” We acknowledge and thank the Snuneymuxw First Nation, Tla’amin First Nation, Snaw-naw-as First Nation and the Cowichan Tribes for allowing us to share educational experiences on the traditional territories of these nations.

You Matter Here Bring us your dreams and goals, and we’ll help you reach them. We care about your success. You’ll find small class sizes with lots of individual attention from faculty and staff, and a small campus where faces will soon be familiar and friendly. MY VIU EXPERIENCE In my first year living on my own for the first time in VIU residence, I had an amazing orientation program that made me feel welcome and at home. Being a part of the VIU ‘ResTide’ has introduced me to some of my closest friends. The orientation program was so much fun it kept me very busy, which gave me little time to miss home.

ABOUT AMANDA • Loves that the Culinary Diploma program has given her the hands-on skills to prepare her for the culinary world • Enjoys road trippin’ in her spare time to visit the many hiking trails, lakes and parks around Vancouver Island • Took home the gold in the BC Skills Canada competition and earned a spot to compete nationally Amanda will graduate with a Bachelor of Hospitality Management Degree in 2019

MY VIU EXPERIENCE I came to VIU with no idea what I wanted to do with my life. I found my calling in biology and science. The people I have gotten to know, work with, and learn from have helped me become who I am. The love, effort, and passion that the people at this school demonstrate day in and day out are infectious.

ABOUT ERIC • Aiming to be a professional research scientist • Was president of the VIU Pre-Med Club and vice president of the VIU Biology Club • Occasionally heard to exclaim, “Holy Biodiversity, Batman!” Eric graduated with a Bachelor of Science, Major in Biology June 2017

MY VIU EXPERIENCE The professors remember us outside the classroom, and have time to talk at length with students when we show up at their office. I feel like my professors are almost as invested in my success as I am. I am working on a research project that examines the human ability to predict time in relation to regular meal patterns. I never thought the research process would interest me so much; the most fascinating part of this experience is how much I am enjoying finding a way to answer my own questions about the world.
