The need for strong Shorthorn bulls is 100 times greater than your and our capacity to produce at this time. But, opportunity is where the NEED is…and because the need is great, the opportunity is great! Don’t let the Great Shorthorn Revival pass you by! Start today! If you need a new bull, travel farther, look harder, pay more…but insist on the bull you need. Don’t settle for a substitute for a good bull. Pick up the big, strong females you occasionally have the opportunity to buy. The kind that will produce a calf every year, and give enough milk to make a job of the calf. Start today to build up the strength of your herd. Competition demands that all of us Shorthorn people produce bulls that will sire bull calves strong enough to be preferred by commercial cattlemen all over America!
Don’t let the Great Shorthorn Revival pass you by!
Our original fall sale in Michigan, “The Great Shorthorn Revival,” was inspired by the article of the same title by Dave Lorenz (excerpted above), published in 1965’s 50th Anniversary issue of Shorthorn World.

This consistent new mating will be featured in the 2017 Maternal Legends Sale. SULL RGLC Legacy 525 was the 2016-2017 Triple Crown and National Champion Bull. SULL Rose Mary 636 was also a National Champion and a NAILE Supreme Female over all breeds. Making a purchase in the Revival creates the eligibility to consign to future sales. Contact Steve French by December 1 to discuss potential lots for “The Springtime Revival” in Oklahoma on Sunday, April 15, 2018.
REVIVAL BUYER/SELLER AGREEMENTS • For all lots in which future fulfillment is a factor (ie. retained rights and retained percentage ownership), the Revival provides a written agreement between seller and buyer. Prepared by an attorney, these agreements document the original sale terms in case of a dispute. Both parties will sign, and will be provided a copy. The original, signed agreement is filed by the Revival. REVIVAL EMBRYO PACKAGES & IVF STATUS • Proper settlement must be made in order for embryos to be released. Shipping arrangements and costs are the responsibility of the buyer. Contact the consignor directly within 30 days of the sale to make shipping arrangements. Consignors cannot be expected to store embryos for you longer than 30 days unless you have personally made arrangements with them. IMPORTANT: Embryo guarantees are between buyer and consignor. Contact the seller directly to inquire. If a guarantee is offered by the consignor, embryos must be implanted within one year of this sale. PREGNANCY INSURANCE • The Revival suggests that buyers of pregnancy lots invest in pregnancy insurance. The policy covers a live birth and the first 49 days of life at the cost of 15% of the purchase price. Buyers should notify Hugh F. Miller Insurance, Harding & Harding agent, on sale day or by phone at 815-626-1300 by October 6, 2017. 4
DNA GENOTYPING & GENETIC TESTING • A DNA genotype is utilized in establishing parentage and in determining the presence of a genetic condition. Animals do not have to be DNA genotyped or free of a genetic condition to be registered. If an animal becomes an A.I. sire or a donor dam, all required genetic testing must be completed and a DNA record must be on file with ASA prior to registering any progeny. Recognized genetic conditions that require DNA testing are thoroughly explained on the ASA web site: www.shorthorn. org. Genetic conditions “free” (F) and “carrier” (C) that have been reported to the ASA are continually updated on the website. Buyers are urged to consult the ASA web site for the most up-to-date list of test results for all genetic conditions. Genetic conditions of individuals and donors, as known at press time, are noted within the pedigrees of individual animals. If genetic testing of sale animals is in progress, test results will be reported on the sale update. CALFHOOD VACCINATION OF HEIFERS • Revival open heifers have been calfhood vaccinated by their consignors. CANADIAN PURCHASES • We welcome our Canadian friends to make purchases in the sale, and have arranged with Armstrong Farms in Pennsylvania to conduct international testing for a fee of $750, payable directly to the Revival sale upon settlement of your purchase. After testing is complete, the buyer is responsible for making arrangements for shipment to Canada.
If we can help you in any way before or after the sale please let us know. We want you to be successful with your purchase!

Lot 5A’s dam is a first calf heifer who was Reserve Champion of Division 1 at the 2015 NJSS. Lot 5A is the type of female we have been striving to breed and develop, and exactly what we thought her sire would give us! Good from the ground up, she is sound-moving with tons of flex, she has great structure, and is still very feminine. She is long-fronted, and has the extra spring of rib, and depth of body that everyone is looking for. She is the real deal! Lot 5B is a package of four heifer embryos bred exactly the same way! Lot 6A is a full sibling to the heifer we sold in the 2017 Springtime Revival, pictured. Sometimes my wife accuses me of being a “slow learner,” and the way we’ve utilized the dam of Lot 6A is a classic example that Kris may be right! Emily 734T is ten years old and has never, and I mean NEVER, failed us. She goes back to the Najla heifer we purchased from Rick Osvog of South Dakota in the mid ‘90s and had success with at the national level. The kids have shown multiple calves out of Emily over the years, and I don’t understand why it’s taken me so long to recognize this exceptional female’s true value! You can bet I’ve learned my lesson!

GAME CHANGER
{
Par Ann 866R’s son, Little Cedar Game Changer 1516, was featured in the 2015 Revival Sale. He is owned by MM Cattle Co., Damascus, Arkansas and Little Cedar Cattle Co. He is long-bodied, good-hipped, sound and good in his joints. His dam’s pedigree – specifically Royal Marc – is very intriguing. We mated her to Red Stallion to create a truly unique herd sire. Game Changer is free of all genetic conditions and SOLID RED! He’s been working in both programs and we believe he’ll prove to be a REAL breeding bull!

Jack Ward, CEO, American Hereford Association: “Today, Argentina’s beef industry is made up of large herds of cattle that utilize A.I. to produce huge contemporary groups of progeny that allow them to make genetic progress in the most progressive herds. Their environments are not that much different than what we find in the U.S. and so, those genetics could be utilized in the U.S. to make progress. I have judged shows for Angus, Hereford and Shorthorn on multiple occasions in Argentina, and I find their cattle to be fundamentally sound, with the right kind of balance of muscle, growth and fleshing ability.” Larry Cotton, Cotton & Associates: “Having made many trips to Argentina, I have great respect for the quality of cattle produced there. With beef as a major agricultural commodity for both export and domestic consumption, Argentine beef producers place high priority on production traits, structural correctness and fleshing ability. Cattle feeding is mostly grass-based, thus, structural soundess, conformation and efficient gaining ability are of utmost importance. There is tremendous consistency within and among breeds in Argentina, resulting in extremely strong competition at the annual Palermo show, an event of significant economic, political and cultural importance. There’s nothing quite like it!” Toby Jordan, Waukaru Farms: “Never have I witnessed a group of people more excited and supportive of all of agriculture as in the Argentine population. It is my belief that this connectedness to their customer base is what drives the purebred breeders of that country to produce the excellent cattle that they do. Nowhere have I witnessed cattle breeders with a better understanding of consumer demands than in Argentina.” 20

Steve and Julie French, Little Cedar Cattle Co.: We first met Héctor Mario Eyherabide and his family in 2008. Meeting again almost every year in Denver, we recognized that he and his son Francisco have our same passion for Shorthorns, and shared beliefs in the fundamentals of breeding functionally efficient and profitable beef cattle. Both of us still recall our first impression of photos of the tremendously muscular Shorthorn bulls Cabaña Santa Cecilia sells – close to 1,000 Shorthorn bulls each year – to Argentine commercial ranchers. There are NO Shorthorn bulls like them in the United States! In 2014, when offered a partnership in two exceptional full sisters bred by Héctor Mario, we jumped at the new venture, and traveled to Palermo to see Elvira and Potranca show. The cattle culture of Argentina, the superior individuals in all the beef breeds, and the energy of the event was enthralling! We were warmly engaged by the most influential Argentine cattle breeders, as guests of a man they clearly respect. We observed, asked questions, and absorbed the greatness of the Argentine beef cattle industry. In September of 2014, Jimmy and Selena McGuire, South River Genetics, invested in the special “Argentine Genetics Opportunity” offered in the Revival Sale. The ARG Partnership mated the sisters to two well-known, powerful, high performance Argentine sires, Alston Polar Star and his son Roosmo Matias Star. Now, in offering half ownership of one of these females, we are sharing our passion and vision of Cabaña Santa Cecilia’s unique Argentine genetics, and the positive, lasting impact they will surely make on the Shorthorn breed in the U.S.A. 21

Maternal superiority! That’s what you can expect from this Matchless female stemming from the Studer breeding program in Iowa. They’ve been in business for five generations – over 100 years – because of Shorthorn females like this one! Her maternal brother was Iowa State Fair Grand Champion. Bred to Compass to calve around sale time, you’ll get a chance to see her prove herself as a mama. Gotta love a cow just doing her job!

SASKVALLEY MAGGIE 73R
SASKVALLEY MAGGIE 73R Dam of “Banjo”
Sired by Ultra 12J, Banjo is a half brother to Bonanza, Primo, Stampede and many other great sires. His dam Maggie 73R, the model and promotional cow for ASA advertising, is the dam of one of the most high $Profit sires in the breed, Task Force. Ranking better than breed average for every maternal measurement, this bull has all the body and fleshing ability to assure us that he can make some of the easiest-keeping cows for any type of breeding program. “We kept Banjo back and used him in our purebred herd because we loved his phenotypic composition, and wanted a son out of 73R,” said Carl Lehmann of Saskvalley Stock Farm. “Whenever we can use an Ultra 12J son out of a great cow, we will.” Barry Lehmann adds, “We used him because we expected his progeny to be easy fleshing females, and it looks like that is what we got. This year every Banjo calf was born unassisted, with below herd average birth weights.”

2016 Michigan Winter Classic – Katie Francisco & Res. Champion Shorthorn Steer Purchased in the 2014 Great Shorthorn Revival
Endorsement from the #1 Shorthorn semen distributor in New Zealand, Lindsay Jones, owner of Genetic Choice:
“Saskvalley Banjo 268B is the new kid on the block from the standout Maggie, dam of the deceased Task Force, one of the breed’s best proven sires and an EPD leader. Banjo offers the industry standout structure, width of base, muscle and strong maternal with excellent docility and the color mark gene!”
