Often we worry about the past and what we might have done. All the time knowing there’s nothing we can do to change it. Since we can’t change the past – let us then look to the future. Many Shorthorn breeders ARE looking to the future. They’re thinking of the kind of cattle that will produce better beef...Shorthorns that will produce profitably for the commercial producer who eventually buys our cattle. These breeders are continuously improving their herds and promoting their breed. They are the breed builders – these forward looking individuals. And they are the ones who will succeed best in the purebred business. The purpose of our association is to stimulate and coordinate efforts to produce superior cattle. But, remember, a breed is built by those who mix the feed, carry the pitchfork and plan the matings.

Text of an American Shorthorn Association advertisement published in a 1958 issue of Shorthorn World.

After the commitment was made to sell 326A in the Springtime Revival, her dam died from complications of a twisted uterus. Since the chance replicate another 326A is almost nonexistent now, we are offering half embryo interest, and give buyer full ownership of all live calves. With the presence of Byland Gold Spear and Creole in her pedigree and the predictability of her Trump influence, she can bring something different to an ET program at the highest level. Also, notice that heifer semen from her service sire Ace of Diamonds sells as Lot 55D. 4

DAM OF LOTS 10, 11 & 12

Thirteen years ago, Cody Leemon invested in Waukaru Primabella 3118. She produced Primabella 819, dam of the three lots selling, and 22 more offspring. All have demanded TOP DOLLAR year in and year out!

LOT 10 LOT 11 LOT 12 8

The Primabellas are dependable for consistent, versatile contributions over time when mated to the breed’s most current sire genetics. Primabella 540 can be that kind of producer for you! Remember the days when every herd promoted their own genetics instead of duplicating their neighbor’s herd? Full Throttle is a perfect combination of proven genetics that win and perform, and still make your herd stand out from the crowd. Add Aviator to the tried-and-true genetics of the Primabella family and you have an instant home run. Cody even went the extra step to offer you sexed HEIFER embryos – there’s a GRAND SLAM package right here!

Lila 122 descends from the highly productive, “real world” Studer Lila cow family. We purchased her dam as the top bred heifer in the Studer family’s fall sale in Iowa. 2014 ASA SHOW BULL OF THE YEAR

Making a purchase in the Revival creates the eligibility to consign to future sales. Contact Steve French by May 1 to discuss potential lots for “The Revival” in Michigan on September 24, 2016.

REVIVAL BUYER/SELLER AGREEMENTS • For all lots in which future fulfillment is a factor (ie. flushes, retained rights and retained percentage ownership), the Revival provides a written agreement between seller and buyer. Prepared by an attorney, these agreements document the original sale terms in case of a dispute. Both parties will sign, and will be provided a copy. The original, signed agreement is filed by the Revival. REVIVAL EMBRYO PACKAGES & IVF STATUS • Proper settlement must be made in order for embryos to be released. Shipping arrangements and costs are the responsibility of the buyer. Embryo packages labeled as IVF require an advanced standard of technical expertise for implantation – attention to this detail is necessary! PREGNANCY INSURANCE • The Revival suggests that buyers of pregnancy lots invest in pregnancy insurance. The policy covers a live birth and the first 49 days of life at the cost of 15% of the purchase price. Buyers should notify Hugh F. Miller Insurance, Harding & Harding agent, on sale day or by phone at 815-626-1300 by April 20, 2016.

DNA GENOTYPING & GENETIC TESTING • A DNA genotype is utilized in establishing parentage and in determining the presence of a genetic condition. Animals do not have to be DNA genotyped or free of a genetic condition to be registered. If an animal becomes an A.I. sire or a donor dam, all required genetic testing must be completed and a DNA record must be on file with ASA prior to registering any progeny. Recognized genetic conditions that require DNA testing are thoroughly explained on the ASA web site: www.shorthorn. org. Genetic conditions “free” (F) and “carrier” (C) that have been reported to the ASA are continually updated on the website. Buyers are urged to consult the ASA web site for the most up-to-date list of test results for all genetic conditions. Genetic conditions of individuals and donors, as known at press time, are noted within the pedigrees of individual animals. If genetic testing of sale animals is in progress, test results will be reported on the sale update. CALFHOOD VACCINATION OF HEIFERS • All Revival open heifers have been calfhood vaccinated by their consignors. CANADIAN PURCHASES • We welcome our Canadian friends to make purchases in the sale, and have arranged with Armstrong Farms in Pennsylvania to conduct international testing for a fee of $750, payable directly to the Revival sale upon settlement of your purchase. After testing is complete, the buyer is responsible for making arrangements for shipment to Canada.

If we can help you in any way before or after the sale please let us know. We want you to be successful with your purchase!

•Offered by Narrow Brook Shorthorns and Du-Ma-Rich Farms One of the main reasons Steve French purchased Low Rider was a testimonial from my brother, Pete Miller. Pete is a hoof trimmer by trade, and verified that the size and shape of Low Rider’s hooves were the real deal, and had never been trimmed. Aces Are Low has the same characteristics of his maternal grandsire – large hoof

L ot 29 circumference on the ground, supporting a sound, moderate skeleton. We have used both Ace High and Low Rider successfully on first calf heifers. With Aces Are Low’s shape and 83# actual birthweight out of a first calf heifer, we would not be afraid to recommend him for heifers. You look, you study and you decide.

•Narrow Brook Shorthorns and Lane Kocher, Indian Hills Cattle Company If there was a “Who’s Who” of the Shorthorn breed, the names in Derby Rose’s tabulation would be listed repeatedly! All the great ones are in her immediate pedigree: Cumberland 3R52, Seductive Rose, Mona Lisa 35L, Trump, Durango. The dam of Lot 31 is owned by our grandson. She was purchased in the 2006 Revival as a pregnancy that calved Kentucky Derby Day, thus the start of the “Derby Rose” family. With her history-stacked pedigree, Derby Rose 752C is a sure bet!

The most influential cow lineage in BSG history is the Cherry family that started their greatness in western Illinois. At the pinnacle of the Shorthorn show ring era, the Cherry females stood right next to the Ka’Ba Rose T90 and HS Nobody’s Fool cow families in producing the most All-Americans. Today, they have been the most prolific cow family at BSG for their fertility, maternal function and longevity, combined with performance traits that keep them in the better half of the herd – year after year. The dams of these two Cherry females are maternal sisters.

The sire of Lot 34, Rider 12M, has gone down in history in the Dakota Territories as one of the great cow makers. Derek Jungels handpicked the bull as a mature sire, and we acquired him for his functional traits with impeccable skeletal design and superior maternal look. This female combines 12M along with our very favorite female ever produced in the elite Shadybrook program of Quebec, the grand Scarlet Rider female pictured. If you want to utilize phenotypic traits that are desired and expounded upon by the industry’s greatest phenotypic evaluators - pretty front ends, tons of middle and square hips - you better look into this solid cow.

Show cattle may look like a Miss America, but they still must be fun ctional.” Developing functio nal, productive, data-driven Sho rthorn cattle that can contribute to nea rly any commer cial producer’s breed arsenal is the cha mpionship this bree d is striving to win .
