The need for strong Shorthorn bulls is 100 times greater than your and our capacity to produce at this time. But, opportunity is where the NEED is…and because the need is great, the opportunity is great! Don’t let the Great Shorthorn Revival pass you by! Start today! If you need a new bull, travel farther, look harder, pay more…but insist on the bull you need. Don’t settle for a substitute for a good bull. Pick up the big, strong females you occasionally have the opportunity to buy. The kind that will produce a calf every year, and give enough milk to make a job of the calf. Start today to build up the strength of your herd. Competition demands that all of us Shorthorn people produce bulls that will sire bull calves strong enough to be preferred by commercial cattlemen all over America!
Don’t let the Great Shorthorn Revival pass you by!
Our original fall sale in Michigan, “The Great Shorthorn Revival,” was inspired by the article of the same title by Dave Lorenz (excerpted above), published in 1965’s 50th Anniversary issue of Shorthorn World.

CHARISMA DAUGHTER
•Offered by Weeping Fox Ranch – The Vogels, Hartley, Iowa There are a lot of attractive fall borns being pictured in profile and promoted right now, but understand this: MAV Emily 670D has as much dimension, thickness and “look” from the back as she does in her side profile! She’s the real deal from every angle! After her show career you will appreciate that her outcross pedigree gives you more flexibility in mating options. What’s more, Emily will be a great choice for a younger or inexperienced showman. Shorthorns are known for a gentle disposition – that’s one more reason so many families love this breed! 2

You are going to love this female...review what Todd Vogel has to say about Charisma daughters on page 2. The bottomside of her pedigree is a classic – Trump combined with the original Desert Rose 004! Her fancy heifer calf at side, Sara Rose 1700, can show in the first class of the day at Tulsa – and she has the “right stuff” to win it!
Making a purchase in the Revival creates the eligibility to consign to future sales. Contact Steve French by May 1 to discuss potential lots for “The Revival” in Michigan on September 23, 2017.
DNA GENOTYPING & GENETIC TESTING • A DNA genotype is utilized in establishing parentage and in determining the presence of a genetic condition. Animals do not have to be DNA genotyped or free of a genetic condition to be registered. If an animal becomes an A.I. sire or a donor dam, all required genetic testing must be completed and a DNA record must be on file with ASA prior to registering any progeny. REVIVAL BUYER/SELLER AGREEMENTS • For all lots in which future fulfillment is a factor (ie. lushes, retained rights and retained percentage ownership), the Revival provides a written agreement between seller and buyer. Prepared by an attorney, these agreements document the original sale terms in case of a dispute. Both parties will sign, and will be provided a copy. The original, signed agreement is filed by the Revival. REVIVAL EMBRYO PACKAGES & IVF STATUS • Proper settlement must be made in order for embryos to be released. Shipping arrangements and costs are the responsibility of the buyer. Embryo packages labeled as IVF require an advanced standard of technical expertise for implantation – attention to this detail is necessary! PREGNANCY INSURANCE • The Revival suggests that buyers of pregnancy lots invest in pregnancy insurance. The policy covers a live birth and the first 49 days of life at the cost of 15% of the purchase price. Buyers should notify Hugh F. Miller Insurance, Harding & Harding agent, on sale day or by phone at 815-626-1300 by April 18, 2017.
Recognized genetic conditions that require DNA testing are thoroughly explained on the ASA web site: www.shorthorn. org. Genetic conditions “free” (F) and “carrier” (C) that have been reported to the ASA are continually updated on the website. Buyers are urged to consult the ASA web site for the most up-to-date list of test results for all genetic conditions. Genetic conditions of individuals and donors, as known at press time, are noted within the pedigrees of individual animals. If genetic testing of sale animals is in progress, test results will be reported on the sale update. CALFHOOD VACCINATION OF HEIFERS • Revival open heifers have been calfhood vaccinated by their consignors. CANADIAN PURCHASES • We welcome our Canadian friends to make purchases in the sale, and have arranged with Armstrong Farms in Pennsylvania to conduct international testing for a fee of $750, payable directly to the Revival sale upon settlement of your purchase. After testing is complete, the buyer is responsible for making arrangements for shipment to Canada.
If we can help you in any way before or after the sale please let us know. We want you to be successful with your purchase! 13

Fantasy Jazz W264 goes back to the famous Alden Fantasy line via WHR – two great breeding programs!
We purchased Lot 20 from the Wammacks and she has consistently produced great calves for us. She is an ideal cow with a perfect udder. We have flushed W264 and have ET calves on the ground and on the way. That’s the only reason she is featured in this sale... along the fact that Steve persuasively requested (several times) that we bring a “great cow” to the Springtime Revival.
The greatest part of this cow may very well be her dandy daughter – a fancy November heifer who should make the trip to Tulsa in July!

A good one is good one – it’s just that simple!
TS Felecia and her daughters have made the biggest impact on our program over the years, and a lot of our success in Shorthorn breeding and showing can be attributed to her. It’s definitely “trickle-down” genetics. This summer born has TS Felecia on both sides of her pedigree, and I believe her dam Felecia 209Z by AF Warrior is going to be one of our rising stars. I can’t think of one in recent history that I like as well on the wash rack as I do this heifer. Picture her in your mind as a bred. She will be truly impressive!
Three Foundation Felecia Dams are Maternal Sisters
The dam of Lot 21 (209Z) is by AF Warrior, the dam of Felecia 043X (608S) is by 4D Double Vision, and the dam of Charisma & Bayou (721T) is by CF Ringo.

We have always pledged to sell our best, and Lot 26 surely proves we’re not just saying it! Dreamin Lady 3968 is an exceptional DIRECT daughter of the great AF Margies Dream Lady 05! Sired by the immortal Sonny, she’s due to JSF Compass at the end of the month. Note that her full sister “Dream Big” was 2013 National Western Grand Champion!
In 2014 Steve French offered Dare to Dream 1437, pictured above, and she was on the top of our pick list but we didn’t get her bought. Last year, when the Schrags offered her dam, Dare to Dream 8207, also pictured above we jumped at the opportunity! 8207 came to us bred to Nitro and she had the fancy white heifer, Lot 27. We really like the look of white (when it’s clean!) and we think Sweet Dreams 28D will really “pop” in front of the photo backdrop at the Tulsa Junior National! She will be fun for a young junior at the show, and she’ll grow into a genetic asset backed by generations of Dream Lady females!

In our 2016 calf crop, we know that SULL Crystal’s Lucy-1 mated well with Style’s full brother, El Capitan. The result was SULL Crystal’s Lucy 6468D, pictured above, who sold for $39,000 in the 2016 Maternal Legends Sale. Silveiras Style 9303 has sired champions all across the U.S., mating very well with cows of all breeds. Based on the potential we see in the exciting heifer 6468D, we have high expectations for the mating of her sire’s full brother, Silveiras Style, to SULL Crystal’s Lucy-1.

Does the fact that I’m retaining half embryo interest in Lot 38 say “POWER COW” to you? Mating Evolution to two-time NAILE Supreme Champion CYT Max Rose 9111 produced a female that embodies depth, capacity, soundness, and functional femininity. Power Cow without question.
About 950 miles due north of the Springtime Revival sale site, Jungels Shorthorn Farm maintains a spring-calving herd of 325 head in Kathryn, North Dakota. 200 females are registered Shorthorn and ShorthornPlus, and 100 females are purebred Angus that are bred to white Shorthorn bulls to produce blue roans. The balance of the cows are commercial females that serve as recipients for a growing ET program. The cattle at JSF are raised in a ranch setting, they are expected to calve on their own, flesh easily and breed back. In the spring of each year, 250 commercial and purebred heifers are sourced from bull customers and developed for marketing as bred heifers. In addition to the purebred operation, JSF runs a 999-head feedlot, again sourcing steer calves from Jungels’ customers and backgrounding them to around 900 lbs. Each year JSF holds two auctions, a female sale of 100 head of Shorthorn and ShorthornPlus bred and open heifers, and a bull sale of 60 bulls and 50 commercial bred females. Currently, JSF bulls are breeding cows in 38 states, 4 Canadian Provinces, and worldwide via AI.

55Y stems from one of the most coveted and longest standing cow families in our family’s history with Shorthorn cattle. Her mother is on my list of five cows that are never to leave JSF! 55Y is just entering her prime and has already proven her ability to produce a great one. In 2016, she landed one of the most highly desired sons of Outlaw to date, JSF Renegade 98D. He was a member of our Champion Pen of 3 at the 2017 NWSS and was selected as the new herd sire for the great Whittle Bros. operation, proprietors Mark Whittle and daughter Keri Hudson in Golden City, Missouri. Her Outlaw heifer calf at side came early but she is taking off and will no doubt follow in her footsteps as another powerful female with practicality and longevity built in.
This great young Jazz daughter stems from one of the most prolific cow families in the breed, the Rosewoods of Abilene from Keith Lauer. Her mother was selected by Bennett Land and Cattle in one of our past Durham Nation sales – check out her production! If not for the fact that we have Rosewood 32Y’s outstanding Outlaw daughter in the replacement group, this cow would not leave. As an added sale feature, she sells with a heifer calf at side by the Australian import Eloora Baker G31. She represents the first Baker progeny to sell in the U.S.! If her siblings at the ranch are any indication, Baker is not another also-ran, Australian bull that was tried in this country. I believe he will be the one who leaves his mark on the American breed!

What a uniquely pedigreed, high quality female!
Gentle and showy, here’s a Felicity with potential to show and win!
Her dam, a first calf heifer, is a direct daughter of the great Creole whose popularity has only grown over the years. Her granddam is the immortal KL Marigold Maria 974, most notably the dam of Sull Red Demand. She has numerous sons working in purebred and commercial operations across the U.S. as well as daughters that flat exel in production. Being sired by JSF McCoy 39Z adds to this heifer’s value. If you are looking for a female to build a herd around, take a long look at 31D!
The dam of Lot 45 is the full sister to MAV Felicity 408B, Payton Vogel’s 2015 Junior National Reserve Grand Champion Bred & Owned Shorthorn Plus, also Division Champion in the Owned Show. This daughter of Fair Red, White & Roan puts a lot of maternal traits together in one package. She has eye appeal and tremendous hair quality that you expect from the top champions. She is gentle enough for the smallest showman – added value!

Bar F Wayward Lazy Gem’s granddam is approaching her 17th birthday and she’s still a member of our herd. She has never missed a breeding and we just weaned her big bull calf. We have high expectations that Wayward Gem will carry on the maternal excellence of her line, so it’s very difficult to let go of her!
The sire of Lot 47, Starburst, is a massive and well-built bull with the eye appeal of a show ring winner. He’s known for transmitting depth of body and muscle shape.

It’s not where you start, it’s where you finish that will make the lasting impression!
163D is the top pick from over 75 ShorthornPlus heifers off the ranch!
Ruby is a heifer that you can’t fault structurally. While she may not overpower you today, believe that her balance and completeness will mature. Remember, her sire was a Revival “economic opportunity” that paid off! Look into the future and know you will always have a Ruby, and the Ruby’s track record of consistently producing high quality will be worth crossing the finish line. Pictures and video will be posted soon to our website and FB page!
Canadian-bred Dumbledore may not have the “showiest” photo of the JSF bull battery, but he sure put the “show” into Blue Belle! She was especially chosen for this sale for her overwhelming quality and eye appeal. If you are looking to round out your show string with a high quality, national level competitive heifer that can, and will, make a productive brood cow, this heifer is worthy of the utmost consideration. Tulsa bound!

Lot 51’s sire, Elbee Leader “Gizmo,” put thickness, soundness and freedom of movement into his daughters. On her bottomside, she stems from the Mel-Bar Lassies, one of the founding female lines of our herd. •Offered by West Shorthorns, Harrisburg, Nebraska 32
L ot 53 When West Shorthorns went west four years ago, they “homesteaded” near Harrisburg, Nebraska. That’s right, in 2013 descendants of the nine-generation Eller ranching family left North Dakota, moving 550 miles, actually southwest, in search of good cow country to continue a historic Shorthorn and Hereford breeding program of over 120 years. Now relocated 40 miles north of the Colorado border and 30 miles east of Wyoming, with practical Great Plains cow sense intact, they are adapting to a new environment and a new economy. JR and Katie West are part of three current generations working together to continue the red and white British-based cow/calf operation the family has always depended on. They expect their cattle to be “self-sufficient,” which means to them low maintence and functionally efficient in multiple traits that address both economic and environmental demands – such as elevation tolerance for their mountain customers. The West’s goal is to blend the best traits of these two traditional British breeds to create a composite ShorthornPlus that will advance the Eller and West ranching heritage in a modern and realistic way, ensuring their descendants will be in the cow/calf business in the next 120 years.
On top of added PRODUCTIVITY, Shorthorns have CARCASS QUALITY and MARBLING ABILITY that’s been proven with data by Meat Animal Research Center (MARC).
Reproductive efficiency, as researched by Iowa State University, is 100 times more important to financial viability than carcass traits. An efficient cow herd is approximately TWICE as important as feedyard performance and FOUR times as important as carcass merit. Maternally superior females matched to their environment and hybrid vigor are two of the most important traits to a profitable cow herd. Shorthorn bulls are aggressive breeders that will yield high conception rates with minimal maintenance. Shorthorn females are valued for longevity and stayability. They are well known for their ability to produce to the age of 13+, while maintaining maternal superiority, and both udder and structural soundness. Shorthorn heifers are proven by MARC data to have the second highest percent reaching puberty at 360 days, and Shorthorn Cross females posted the highest percent of calf crop weaned. This means more saleable pounds at market time and more dollars in your pocket. Shorthorn docility (gentle disposition) has added value in the beef industry. Research from thousands of feedlot cattle from across the U.S. shows an average loss of $62/head for cattle with a disposition score of 3 or higher (scale 1-6). The average Shorthorn in the same feedlots averaged 1.7. Calmer cattle grade higher, gain faster, require fewer labor hours to process, and have a much lower incidence of dark cutters, in addition to reduced medical costs. 33
