Stevens Point is located near the banks of the Wisconsin River, in Portage County, offering a wide range of recreational opportunities including the 26-mile loop Green Circle Trail, cross-country ski trails, year-round fishing on the river and in nearby lakes, as well as downhill skiing at Standing Rocks County Park. The population of Stevens Point is approximately 25,000 with a county population of 62,000. The location of residence halls allows students to blend in with the community. Police, fire department, hospital, city, library, shopping and the riverfront area are all within walking distance. The historic downtown district provides a number of civic and cultural attractions, such as the Central Wisconsin Symphony, City Band, Central Wisconsin Area Community Theater, and a farmers’ market. Stevens Point has a number of local eateries in addition to chain restaurants. Stevens Point is also home to a small airport that plays a critical role in fostering business growth and economic development in the region.
