PRIOR TO A CLASS TRIP TO ARIZONA, A GROUP PRECEDENT STUDY TOOK PLACE OF LIBRARIES IN THE PHOENIX AREA. THE SOUTH MOUNTAIN COMMUNITY COLLEGE LIBRARY WAS DONE BY rich채rd+baueR WITH THE CONCEPT OF AN INTEGRATED CIRCUIT PROVIDING THE NEED OF ORGANIZATION AS WELL AS THE DISCRETE CONNECTION OF THE PLAN PROGRAM NECESSARY FOR BOTH A COMMUNITY AND COLLEGE LIBRARY IN ONE DESIGN. THE PRECEDENT STUDY CONSISTED OF STUDYING THE DESIGN AND REDRAWING AND BUILDING CONCEPT MODELS TO OUR UNDERSTANDING OF THE BUILDING. OUR GROUP CONCLUDED TO A FLOATING AND SPATIAL QUALITY CONCEPT WITH AN UNDERLYING CONNECTION TO THE COMMUNITY AND COLLEGE AS WELL. THIS NEW TAKE ON A SHARED LIBRARY BY BOTH COMMUNITY AND COLLEGE IS AN EXAMPLE OF ONE OF THE FEW HYBRID PROGRAMS BECAUSE THE LIBRARY IS BECOMING MORE OF AN EXPERIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY HUB WITH THE PROPOSED NOTION THAT THE BOOK IS DISAPPEARING AND BEING REPLACED BY TECHNOLOGY. THIS LIBRARY IS SUCCESSFUL IN SOME OF ITS WAYS BOTH CONCEPTUAL AND PHYSICAL, AND AIDS TO A STRONG THESIS OF WHAT THE MEANING OF A LIBRARY IS BECOMING: A HYBRID. PARTNERS: SPENCER ANDERSON, TYSON SMITH, SAMANTHA WATERS MY ROLE: ELEVATIONS, 2ND LEVEL FLOOR PLAN, MASSING BUILD UP DIAGRAM, CONCEPTUAL FLOATING DIAGRAM, HELPED WITH COLLAGE SECTION MODEL

The Gateway Community College campus lies at the center of the Phoenix Discovery Triangle manifesting its mission as GATEWAY and COMMUNITY that creates and forties strong connection to the Phoenix Community. The campus has the potential of bringing the college to the community and the community to the college. It also serves as a potential destination hub through CANAL SCAPE. OUR GROUP ANALYZED THE ENTIRE COLLEGE BLOCK FOR POTENTIAL SITES FOR THE LIBRARY DUE TO THE LARGE AMOUNT OF SURFACE PARKING. SOUTH OF THE COLLEGE BLOCK IS A LARGE FARMERS MARKET THAT RUNS THROUGH THE YEAR AND IT IS A MAJOR TIE TO THE COMMUNITY. THE NORTH EAST SIDE CONTAIN THE MAJOR CANAL THAT WILL UTILIZE PLANS FOR CANAL-SCAPE.THE LIGHT RAIL, AND POTENTIAL URBAN/METROPOLITAN HUB MAKES FOR AN INCREASE OF PEDESTRIAN AND OTHER TRAFFIC THROUGH THE AREA. THIS PROJECT SITS ON THE GATEWAY COMMUNITY COLLEGE CAMPUS. THE OPTION OF SITE B FROM THE MASTER PLAN WAS CHOSEN BECAUSE THE AREA IS PRIME REALESTATE FOR A LARGE URBAN AND METROPOLITAN GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT FOR A HYBRID LIBRARY PROGRAM WITH INTENTIONS OF EMBRACING BOTH THE COLLEGE AND THE COMMUNITY IN ONE FUNCTION. THE LIBRARY WILL ALSO INTRODUCE A METROPOLITAN ASPECT WITH RETAIL SPACES, AND A SECONDARY FARMERS MARKET THAT IS DESIGNED WITH THE LIBRARY. THE CONCEPT WAS ABOUT EXTENSION; USUALLY LIBRARIES WANT TO EXTEND KNOWLEDGE AND LEARNING. THIS LIBRARY TAKES EXTENSION ONE STEP FURTHER BY EXTENDING TO THE COLLEGE AND COMMUNITY, EXTENDING THE FARMERS MARKET INTO THE CAMPUS AND CREATING A MICRO MARKET THAT IS ALSO AN EXTENSION OF THE RETAIL SPACE ON THE GROUND LEVEL, AND EXTENDING THE SCHOOL INTO THE LIBRARY WITH CLASSROOM SPACES MIXED INTO THE PROGRAM. ALSO THERE IS A STRONG EXTENSION OF GREEN SPACE AND PLAZA SPACE THAT STEMS FROM AN AXIS IN THE PROPOSED MASTER PLAN. THE MAIN LIBRARY FUNCTIONS SIT ABOVE THE RETAIL SPACE AND INTERMIX WITH THEM TO CREATE A PLAY ON WHERE THE LIBRARY ACTUALLY STARTS. THE CIRCULATION PARTI CONTINUES THE CONCEPT OF EXTENSION, THERE IS A MAIN CORRIDOR OF CIRCULATION AND THE SPACES NEEDED EXTEND OFF OF THAT CIRCULATION SPACE AND OVER THE SITE. A STUDY OF THE DIFFERENT SIDES OF THE LIBRARY AND WHAT ROOMS AND FUNCTIONS THEY SHOULD INCLUDE LED TO THE ORGANIZATION OF THE SPACES IN AREAS THAT ARE SHOWN IN THE DIAGRAMS. THE LIBRARY OFFERS A LARGE COMMUNITY CENTRE WHICH IS ACTS AS ONE LARGE MULTIPURPOSE ROOM AVAILABLE FOR THE COMMUNITY AND THE COLLEGE. THAT SPACE SPANS OVER A PAVED AREA THAT HOSTS FOOD TRUCKS AND OTHER EVENTS ON GROUND LEVEL, AS WELL AS KEEPING THE EXTENSION OF CIRCULATION AND EXTENSION FROM THE CAMPUS AND THE DROP OFF AREA INTO THE SITE.

this project consists of a water study with a presentation in an abstract manner. a thesis, 2d, and 3d representation of the study. the thesis was presented with underlying 2d graphic elements, the 2d painted graphic possessed underlying 3d elements and the 3d possessed Movement as well. My role: thesis, presentation of thesis, 2d painted graphic.
"Water on a molecular level is Experiencing both and . The push pull state of the molecule originates from the negative and positive forces within. Leading to the as well as the of how water Interacts within its S urroundings and itself . "
This project is a photo study of a site visit at cherry peak in logan Utah. one photo was restricted to black and white only, the second was inverted from it. This creates an illusion that the content of the photos are different, while the only differences are the inverted color and how one interprets the comparison of the two side by side. The thesis was designed as a graphic that at a farther view point one could read only the words light and depth. Upon approaching the exhibit, the word surfaces starts to appear and it is noticeable that the photos have similarities. Finally a simple few feet away, the entire sentence of the thesis is visible and the photos are visibly inversions of the other.
"THIS IS A PHOTO STUDY OF THAT HITS THE D I F F E R E N T AND CREATES A THROUGH CONTRAST AND COMPARISON."
