As usual, we give you some gift ideas to nudge you on. Sometimes, one is at loss on what to buy. See what we got. We wanted to know what the season means to you so, we spoke with some celebs about their Valentine Day. See pp. 4. On the cover, Damilola Adegbite, rising actress with a body to die for, is perfect for the season. Stop press! As I write this, I am at a surgeon’s reception to witness to a lovers’ tiff. It is hilarious! Shouting spell over, the guy storms off. Lady is crossed-legged with a smirk. Yeah! Way to go! I like women with spunk. This one certainly has loads of it. (chuckle). Valentine Day!
What does valentine mean to you?
by - Yemisi Suleiman
CHINEZE ANYAENE FILM DIRECTOR / PRODUCER
What does valentine mean to you? I personally believe it’s a day to celebrate love. Not necessarily just the love for your significant other but for the love of everything. For the love you have for God, your friends, family, and pets.
crazy. But for presents, maybe a little bit more affectionate than otherwise. What gift would wow you... blow your mind? Let’s not talk about gifts that will blow my mind. I know that there will be gifts; there will be a lot of affection. How do you intend to spend the day? I know that we will be together, most likely at home with our kids because, it’s not just love between partners. It’s time to show love to your loved ones. Most memorable Valentine’s Day yet? It’s been twelve years with loads of memory. I am not sure of a most memorable one. Every day is kind of special.
What is the best gift you have received for Valentine? Chris Aire wrist watch from my mum What gift would blow your mind? Hmmm.. A lot of things... Including a 2013 GT V8 continental Bentley.

What gift would blow your mind? Anything from the heart, so far it’s from the heart. Something sweet and feminine.
What does valentine mean to you? It’s Lovers’ Day; for everyone to show love to one another – be it your family, the less privileged, or those that are on the streets and cannot afford a square meal. If you can help them, it shows that you love them.
How do you intend to spend the day? I will spend it, obviously, with my family. I intend reaching out to the less privileged privately.

What gift do you expect? Sometime ago, I posted on my page that God should please borrow me 3 million pounds from my future money (laughs). If I get that, that will be great. What gift would blow your mind? I have not thought of that yet, but anything that comes I will appreciate. SUEDE SANDALS

How do you intend to spend the day? I have no idea yet.
What’s the best gift you have received over the years? A lot, I can’t begin to count.
How do you intend to spend the day? Work and dinner with friends and family.
What does St. Valentine’s Day mean to you? Frankly speaking, it’s just another day of the month. It’s just the 14th day of the second month of this year. And, I’ll tell you why. You are either in love or you are not; one IRETI DOYLE day won’t make any difference so it’s just another day. Will we do something extra this year? May be, there will be no going out to dinner because traffic is
It’s a day set aside for expression of love; showing love to your loved ones (those you care about), and exchange of INI EDO gifts. It’s a day to remember that love is the greatest. It’s not necessarily to your spouse or partner alone, but also people who care about you. It’s a day of celebration of love.

4 It is still harmattan, remember to prep dry skin with some of the best moisture providers on the market. Vaseline intensive care essential moisture and body shop’s body butter both work magic on thirsty skin.
It should be easy to start running for fitness. After all, it’s something you’ve done since you were a little kid, and you already have the most important equipment: a working pair of legs. Having said though, we all give the same types of excuses: “I don’t have time”; “I don’t have the energy”; “it’s too cold/hot/rainy”; “the dog ate your shoelaces” and the most common one: “MY HAIR!!! I JUST SPENT A LOT OF MONEY AT THE SALON” Uh-huh ALL EXCUSES. Regular aerobic activity reduces the risk of developing type 2 diabetes, certain kinds of cancer, gallstones, osteoporosis and other serious illness. Plus, every mile you run burns 100 calories, and every step you take helps leave the stress of the office behind. Combine all that with the knowledge that running is a relatively cheap pursuit that you can do on your own time and at your own pace, and the joys of jogging become even clearer. So why not give it a go? Last week I put together some facts about running to help you get started. This week we kick it to gear 2 identifying helpful beginners’ tips to ease you into it gradually. Remember you MUST get approval from your doctor if you have not had a physical • usain bolt
examination recently. Here are some tips that will help you develop running:
Buy good shoes and running gear The most important investment runners should make is in a good pair of running shoes -- not crosstraining, walking, or tennis shoes. It’s worth going to a specialty shop to buy a pair of running shoes. Make sure that the salesperson looks at the shape and arch of your foot to figure out the best shoes for you, many will also watch you run, to make sure the shoes you buy complement the way your foot strikes the ground. The reason good shoes are important is because it will soften the impact and protect your joints. Getting the right running shoes for your foot type is crucial for comfort and injury prevention. For the ladies, a good quality, well-fitted sports bra is essential, preferably made of wicker material to keep you cooler and drier. A digital sports watch is also helpful. As you advance in your running and set new goals, a heart-rate monitor is nice to have, to make sure you keep your effort level where it should be.
Warm up first It’s important to warm up your body before running. Otherwise running will feel very hard and your body will moan and groan. Walking is a great way to warm up
TERI Speaks Dear Teri, please, I am a 33yr old lady, chocolate in complexion. I have these fine lines on both sides of my cheek and I don’t like it. What can I use to get rid of it? And also I have a dry skin what is the best cream I can use. Thanks. Meg. Dear Meg, Thanks for writing in. Beauty spots are the cluster of skin cells which have turned black or dark brown and consist of pigments. They can be worsened with pregnancy or as you age. Not a lot can be done unless you have them surgicaly removed. There are a few herbal remedies you could try but it could be a long shot. One simple remedy is by the use of garlic to be applied to the spot. Tip #1: Hydrate your skin Since dry skin is a cause of wrinkles, hydrate your skin by drinking plenty of water as a natural remedy to reduce wrinkles and lines around mouth. For looking younger,

the body. Stride out and pump your arms. Start with a medium paced walk and then speed up until you start to sweat. Once your body is warm, you are ready to run, usually takes about 5- 10 minutes. You should also always end your workout with a cool-down of 5 – 10 minutes.
Take it slow
When you start running, it doesn’t matter how slow you go. Remember that your body needs to get used to new movement.
Ease into running with interval training
The best way to get fit fast is through interval training. This means short burst of high intensity exercise alternating with recovery periods. According to the American College of Sports Medicine, more calories are burned in short, high intensity exercise. Try alternating 5 minutes of walking and one minute of running for twenty minutes. As you get fitter, you can lengthen the periods of running. Once you get used to running, you can alternate slow jogging with fast sprints.
Use correct running technique Beginners find it difficult to relax while running. Keep your head up and your lower arms in hip height, and run without bouncing. It all helps to work your body more efficiently.
Run with others
A great way to keep up your motivation is to run with others. See if a colleague or a friend is willing to come running with you. Set an interval schedule for your run and stick to it. I personally love running with my neighbors, we compete against each other and keep each other in check, that way you stay motivated and interested.
conclusion
Remember your legs will be sore in the beginning, but if you keep up the routine, the leg soreness will subside relatively quickly. If you feel acute pain anywhere, stop running for a few days and let your legs recover, to prevent injuries. Shin splints are the most common injury, usually incurred when you overdo your training or wear improper shoes. Be aware of the difference between being tired and being injured. For comments and questions please email terimendes@gmail. com, @terimendes. I would love to hear from you, till next week. - it’s ta ta for now! XOXO
beautiful and reducing wrinkles and fine line around mouth, try to drink at least two liters of water everyday. Drinking adequate amounts of water will help keep your body hydrated and help to get rid of wrinkles around mouth. Tip #2: Use Moisturizers Your face should be moisturized with a good moisturizing lotion regularly to prevent dryness and wrinkles. It’s critical that you wear a moisturizer around your lip and mouth. Moisturizers replace the lost moisture in your skin and plump the skin cell, reducing lines and wrinkles around mouth and lips. .Tip #3: Avoid over sun exposure Regular sun protection is the best way to get rid of deep fine lines and folds around the mouth. Avoiding sun exposure can really help to delay the formation of fine wrinkles around the mouth and lip wrinkles. Sun exposure damages the skin cells immensely and causes the collagen under the skin to break down and deteriorate. The deterioration of collagen in the skin increases wrinkles and sagging, around the mouth and the eyes. In order prevent deep wrinkles around mouth it is best to apply good screen lotion before you step out. Tip #4: . Exfoliate Regularly Exfoliating is another tip to get rid of wrinkles around mouth. Exfoliation will remove the dead skin cells that make your mouth wrinkles. Try to exfoliate your skin twice every week using natural beauty products like sugar, strawberries, avocado, bananas or lemon. It will remove smile lines around mouth naturally. Let me know how you get on after 6weeks, remember its a long term battle so don’t expect to see results immediately. Best wishes, Teri M

Carrots The richest in carotenes of all plant foods, carrots offer protection from cancers and cardiovascular diseases and help keep eyes and lungs healthy. They are one of the most nutritious root vegetables. They are an excellent source of anti-oxidant compounds, and the richest vegetable source of carotenes, which give them their bright, orange colour. These compounds help protect against cardio-vascular diseases and cancer. Carotenes may reduce the incidence of heart disease by about 45 percent (45%), promote good vision and help maintain healthy lungs. Bell Peppers The bright colours of bell peppers contain high levels of carotene for heart and cancer protection, and are also a rich source of vitamin C. Bell peppers come in a variety of colours, but red and orange bell peppers contain the highest level of vitamin B6 and carotenes. However, all of them are extremely rich in vitamin C, with an average serving providing more than a day’s recommended intake. Generally, the deeper the colour of the bell pepper, the more beneficial plant compounds it contains. These include bioflavonoid to protect against cancer and phenols, which help block the creation of cancer-causing chemicals in the body. Peppers also contain plant sterols, which may have an anti-cancer effect.

When the balance is wrong, you may be off in all sorts of ways; tired and droopy even after you eat; irritable and bloated, or stricken with headaches or constipation which can affect your whole outlook on life. Bad food can also pull you into a cycle of negative thoughts about yourself.

I’ve always wondered why Mother Nature challenges menopausal women with hot flashes and night sweats. Burning in the crucible of transformation makes a good topic for contemplation, but what’s the physiologic reason for these common symptoms? Don’t we have enough body issues to attend to at this age, what with wrinkles, weight gain and dryness in sensitive areas? It’s estimated that at least half of menopausal women suffer from hot flashes and night sweats, but in this study of predominantly upper middle-class white women from the Rancho Bernardo study, 73 percent reported hot flashes and of those, 39 percent also had night sweats. After 11.5 years of follow-up, those who had both hot flashes and night sweats had nearly a 30 percent lower risk of dying. Even more surprising, this lower risk held true even if the women were overweight, didn’t exercise, smoked, or were past or present users of conventional hormone replacement therapy.
Beans The star quality of beans is that they are exceptionally high in fibre and can help reduce “bad cholesterol”. Beans are high in form of soluble fibre called arabinose, which can help improve the lipid profile. They also contain flavonoid quarcetin, which help prevent heart disease, and they are a good source of cancer-blocking beta carotene, niacin, (vitamin B3), folate, vitamin C, and vegetable protein. They are higher in calcium than most vegetables and also contain good levels of magnesium, iron, zinc, and potassium. Tomatoes It is one of the healthiest salad foods because it contains lycopene, which offers protection from prostate cancer and compounds to help prevent blood clots. Tomatoes are our major source of dietary lycopene, a carotene anti-oxidant that fights heart diseases and may help prevent prostate cancer. Tomatoes also have an anti-coagulant effect because of the salicylates contained in them; they contain several other antioxidants including vitamin C, quercetin and lutein. Tomatoes are low in calories but high in potassium and contain useful amounts of fibre. Spinach Contains iron and many flavonoid compounds which act as anti-oxidants and fight against stomach, skin, breast, prostate and other cancers. Spinach is also extremely high in carotenes which protect eye sight. It is particularly rich in vitamin K, which helps to boost bone strength and may help prevent osteoporosis. In addition, spinach contains peptides, which are aspects of protein that have shown to lower blood pressure, and its relatively high vitamin F content may help protect the brain from cognitive decline as we age. Garlic Valued for its health protection for thousands of years, garlic bulbs are a useful anti-biotic and can also reduce the risk of both heart diseases and cancers.

Are hot flashes and night sweats a form of house cleaning? Posing the “why hot flashes and night sweats” question from a medical anthropology viewpoint, perhaps these symptoms are nature’s way of “detoxing” a woman’s body, sort of major house cleaning before shutting down the ovaries and uterus for the business of monthly cycles and pregnancy. The skin is our largest organ of detoxification, and sweating is one of the best ways to detoxify. In fact, sweating releases fat-soluble toxins, which are notorious for hanging around in fat cells for decades and eventually causing the kinds of DNA damage that can lead to cancer. It might be an interesting experiment to take the night sweatssoaked sheets of a menopausal woman and analyze them for toxins. It is likely that night sweats are a form of detoxification. Menopausal women may want to consider embracing hot flashes and night sweats, at least for a few months, before turning to bioidentical hormones to stop them. Exercise that encourages sweating, steam baths and saunas, might theoretically enhance the process.

EATING FOR THE NEW YEAR Therefore, everyone who hears these words of mine and acts on them will be like a sensible man who built his house on the rock. The rain fell, the rivers rose, and the winds blew and pounded the house, yet it didn’t collapse, because its foundation was on the rock – Matt. 7:24. GROUP B Vegetables Carotenes, calcium and iron are just a few of the essential health-giving properties found in vegetables.
They are also rich in fibre, anti-oxidant vitamins C and E, calcium, and potassium. A chemical in carrots, falcarinol, has been shown to suppress tumours in animals by a third.

When you eat in balance with your individual physical needs, you may be surprised how small annoyances begin to clear up: skin problems, allergies or that irksome tendency to get cranky by mid-afternoon. When the balance is wrong, you may be off in all sorts of ways; tired and droopy even after you eat; irritable and bloated, or stricken with headaches or constipation which can affect your whole outlook on life. Bad food can also pull you into a cycle of negative thoughts about yourself.
