March is a special month for us. March 8th was celebrated worldwide as International Women Day; March is, indeed, a month when all eyes are on women – and their achievements. How have we fared? Ndidi Obioha... IN

Over a decade ago, she started her business as a beautician running a small salon at Yaba in Lagos. Only recently, she called out friends and clients to a small garden show at her home in Lekki for a private viewing of her new range redifussion line. In this brief encounter, Ndidi obioha, the indefatigable serial entrepreneur talks about her work life from morning to bedtime. From managing a small beauty parlour you have become an established entrepreneur with several additions to your line of business. How GRHV WKLV D̆HFW \RXU GDLO\ OLIH" Usually, I start my day by meditating. On WKH XSVLGH , DOZD\V VHH D QHHG DQG , WU\ WR ÂżOO that gap. So because of that I have added a lot to my business and that has made me busier than ever and for this reason, some people call me a serial entrepreneur. There is the events planning, there is the styling, and now we just JRW WKH IUDQFKLVH IRU D GL̆XVVDO OLQH 7KDW LV WKH newest addition to our line up. And this happened because sometimes when I go to a hall to plan an event, the smell can be so unpleasant. And then, I would go home to bring what I use to make the place really nice for people and before you knew it, clients will start demanding for it. It’s amazing how each gap has helped to grow my business. . There is always a reason for everything that I do. I don’t get to bed until about midnight or 1pm. So my sleep time is usually between 12 midnight to 2am every day. So for that reason, I am not an early bird. I may wake up by 6am but I don’t leave my bed until about 9am unless I have a meeting. I take my time in the morning. When I am ready to go, I start by doing the whole skin care routine. I would wash my face, I would cleanse, tone, and apply whatever I have to apply. I love to make up so I take my time to do that. I love to play with my eye shadows so I usually have fun dressing up because I look forward to doing my make-up and doing it right. My children actually taught me about family time. They come to me and say, ‘mummy, let’s have family time’. The good thing is that my children understand my schedule. It’s really crazy. I travel quite a bit sourcing for things outside the country. But during the weekends when I don’t have events, I totally try to be there for my family. In the evenings, sometimes I try to come back early so that I can spend some time with them before they go to bed. In the morning they don’t really get to see me because I’m not a

So I need to be comfortable and a pair of trousers gives me that comfort. 'RQœW \RX KDYH EUHDNIDVW" When I get around to it, I would probably do my juices, smoothies or tea. I am a tea person. I try to take a cup of tea in the morning. That can keep me going through the morning. Then during the day, because I try to live a very healthy lifestyle, I am very picky. I like my salads and I like my grills. So most times, it is when I get home that I get to eat properly. If I try to eat out, I will spoil my diet and go junk which I will end up regretting. When you get back home, how do you FDS \RXU GD\" When I get home, I usually cap my day with prayers. We usually pray together as a family at about 10pm every night. Sometimes the children are in bed but everybody else who lives under our roof, my husband, house-help and other family members gather to pray as a family. After that we go to bed but I don’t sleep immediately. When I get into bed, I have my phones; I could be on the phone talking with friends or clients or I could be on the internet browsing. +RZ KDV \RXU OLIH LQ IDVKLRQ EHHQ" Amazing. A NIGHT T

t was a night brimming with excitement and good vibes as a 200 person-strong group of young Nigerians from just about every ethnic group, religion and career filed into the Expo Centre of Eko Hotel, Lagos. These young professionals, business people and entrepreneurs engaged the President, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, in a first-of-itskind youth interactive forum tagged #MeetThePresident. This was no formal soiree of tuxedos and floor length ball gowns, stuffed bellies and champagne or stuffy speeches and pointless conversation. The young people of this country represented by this cross section of individuals were present for one thing only: dialogue with Nigeria’s first citizen! The dress code was ‘smart casual’ and His Excellency did not disappoint as he turned up in a dark polo shirt, brown khaki pants and a stylish baseball cap (snapback) emblazoned with the letters G-E-J on it. It was organized by a group called PVC (Participate, Vote, Country). And the event’s aim? To simply create a platform for young Nigerians to interact and engage Mr. President – asking him pertinent questions on elections matters, economy as well as security, in a first-of-its-kind ‘uncensored’ manner. Questions touched on everything: from personal matters such as Mr. President’s favourite colours to more serious issues like Boko Haram, falling oil revenue and the economy. This interactive session was anchored by Gbemi Olateru-Olagbegi of The Beat FM, Lagos, and Gbemileke Oscar Oyinsan of City FM, Lagos. The second phase of the event was a youth rally where a bigger audience of about 5,000 youths turned up. The event featured speeches from supporters of the President such as YouWin and GIS/SUREP beneficiaries and 20 pilots who were trained under the GEJ administration, which included an 18-year-old pilot, the youngest ever pilot in recent times. Other speakers included Umar Nasko (39), the youngest gubernatorial candidate in the 2015 elections from Niger State as well as Abdul Maibasira (31), the youngest ever PDP Youth Leader. The rally was a lively mix of comedy, music and goodwill messages – hosted by Bovi and Toyin Ayimakhu with a line-up of performing artistes including Timi Dakolo, Sean Tizzle, Oritsefemi, Orezi, Nosa, Seyi Shay and Obesere among others. LATASHA NGWUBE reports for Allure on this riveting event that was the number one trending topic on social media amongst Nigerians and the youth in particular.

It is when you are sick that you really appreciate the value of good health and there is no government that will not take the health sector seriously. The health sector is divided into two components – the primary health sector that is basic health to all of us. Some people, including a professor, preached that polio vaccines reduced the reproductive rate of women. In fact, some of WKH RIÀFLDOV RI JRYHUQPHQW WKDW ZHUH KDQGOLQJ WKH immunization were attacked and even killed. That certainly set us back but as we speak right now, the last polio case was recorded in Kano, June 2014. God willing, this year Nigeria will be
declared free of polio. And then, the tertiary ones; we have issues of kidney transplant, heart operations, neurosurgery, etc. In fact, those are the areas that a number of Nigerians go outside this country for. On both fronts, we are addressing it aggressively. When I was Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State, my younger sister had some problems with her heart, her neutral valves. I asked my personal physician where we could go for this and he said the nearest place was in Ghana. Today, some of our Nigerian teaching hospitals are handling open heart surgeries; some are handling kidney transplants; all these were not there before. In fact, the University of Benin started good work in the use of stem cells but just like most teaching hospitals around the world, suspended the work due to human rights issues surrounding stem cells. So both at the primary and tertiary levels, we are doing well and will even improve on that because we believe that a country like Nigeria should have very good health facilities such that neighbouring countries should come and not the other way round.

That is why after inaugurating a president, you spend more time governing. I would love to go to the six geo-political zones, even quarterly, to have town hall meetings and so on but, sometimes, it is almost impossible. We have had a good number of young people – in one way or the other – but I think the issue is to increase the number. Dr Sally Mbanefo the DirectorGeneral of Nigeria Tourism Development Corporation (NTDC) hits the big 50 with a star studded party held Sunday, 22nd February, at the Civic Centre Victoria Island Lagos. The party which brought together family members, friends and important dignitaries, was double celebration for Sally as the occasion saw the unveiling of ‘Sally as an artist and painter’ and the launch of three books. With her various art works on display in the well decorated hall, the books chronicles Sally as An Artist, the second is a Collection of the Tourists Sites in Nigeria, while the third is the unveiling of Solange (Sally’s first daughter) The Architect and Photographer. The night’s event was characterized by tributes for Sally by important personalities, with musical performances by young discoveries from Sally’s Foundation and soulful singer Olumide, who thrilled guests to some good old classics.
