Brittany Null Sweeps Employment Awards

Brittany Null has won enough plaques lately to create her very own Hall of Fame. In December, Brittany won both the Ernie Strow Community Employment Award for excellence in her work in the community as well as the Mary Hornsby Award for her work in the workshop. This is the first time the same person has received both awards. After winning the Ernie Strow award, Brittany was honored by the North Fairfield Village Council with a plaque and a collectible Michael Jordan medallion. (Why the Jordan medal? Brittany is not only a prized employee, but she’s a star for the Christie Lane basketball team and recently scored 24 points in a game.) The community employment award is named in honor of the late Ernie Stow, who received services from Huron County DD and was an exemplary employee in the community. The award is given annually to an outstanding employee who works in the community. Brittany earned her award as a motel room attendant. “I really like that job,” Brittany said. “It’s fun being out in the community and making new friends.” Mary Hornsby is a former employee at Christie Lane Industries. The award bearing her name is given annually to an outstanding member of the Christie Lane Industries workforce. “Brittany is known for her great attitude and her willingness to pitch in and help wherever she’s needed, both in the workshop and at her job in the community,” said Glenda Foster, community employment specialist. “She is very deserving of these awards and we’re very proud of her achievements.”

Zimmerman Accepts Award from County Association Huron County Board of Developmental Disabilities President DeEtte Zimmerman is shown with the Distinguished Service Award she received in December from Ohio Association of County Boards of Developmental Disabilities. From left are Dan Ohler, executive director of the association, DeEtte, her husband Dick Zimmerman, and Huron County DD Superintendent Dr. Dee Zeffiro-Krenisky, who nominated DeEtte for the award.

Council Opening for Family Participation The Council for Christie Lane was once a parent support group founded by the families who helped establish Christie Lane. It was an entity similar to a PTO and operated by the families. However, over time it became an organization operated by the staff. Christie Lane is now exploring the possibility of again opening the organization to family members, and we are interested in gauging the interest of families. Any family members who would like to participate in the Council should call Cindy Christian Kromer at 419.668.8840, ext. 120.

Job Club Teams up with USO; Angi Helps out with Gingerfest The Christie Lane Job Club recently teamed up with local radio stations and the USO to collect needed items for military personnel who could not make it home for Christmas. It was the third year that Christie Lane’s Job Club participated in the program. Beginning in November, generous friends and families of Job Club members sent in enough goodies to fill the collection box and an additional large box. The packages were delivered to WLKR radio station just in time to be sorted and shipped off.

Also, Angi was in the holiday spirit when she volunteered again this year to help out at Gingerfest. Like last year, Angi managed the booth where children could pick out a gift to give to a parent or whomever they choose. After their selection was made, Angi’s job was to wrap the gift and help the student write the gift tag. Students from several different schools were at Gingerfest that day, but Angi loved the challenge and is already planning to help out again next year.
