THE GOOD BAD AND UGLY OF HR
Like every other profession, HR too has its share of Good, Bad and Ugly. In this blog, we bring to you the inside story of the profession. THE GOOD: •
Make a difference HR empowers you to make a difference at both an organizational level and an individual level. The organization as a whole and individuals benefit from opportunities created mutually.
•
Involve in interesting work What can be more interesting than interacting with people of different backgrounds and skills! HR enables you interact with a mix of people at different levels.
THE BAD: • Looked down upon: In a class full of B-school students it is difficult to find even a handful interested to make HR their choice of career. The profession, though important, is considered to be an easy career choice. • Obligatory Hiring: Nepotism, political and other obligations, rather than pure merit, have become reasons for hiring • Caught in compliance: That compliance to a standard is the minimum expected and that more innovation can be brought into the profession is not realized.
THE UGLY: •
Rejection: Handing over the pink slip and recommending someone for a layoff is a miserable job. Equally worse or more is having to perform the task of workforce downsizing in the name of cost cutting.
•
Motives: The driving force behind actions taken seems to be to solely increase value of company stock. In this pursuit, there are several cases of compromised values and morals.
